Illinois State Achievement Test (ISAT) Information
The ISAT is given once a year in early March to all Illinois public schools in grades 3 through 8. The test is administered over a period of one or two weeks, depending on the choice of each individual school. Students are tested on reading comprehension, mathematics, and writing skills. In 4th and 7th grade, students are also tested on science content.
The test is a combination of multiple choice, short answer (math), extended response (math) and extended response (writing). Students’ scores help schools and parents to measure individual progress and the progress of the school population as a whole. For 7th grade students in the City of Chicago who are interested in applying to selective enrollment high schools, it is important to note that 7th grade ISAT scores count for 30% of the selection criteria.
