As a professional homemaker with free time the idea of helping students achieve their academic goals appeals to me. I have extensive knowledge of biology; specifically biochemistry, genetics, and molecular biology, as well as a good understanding of chemistry, history, and mathematics. My hobbies include reading and writing, animal care (I have a pet dog), hiking and fitness. Growing up with three younger siblings has given me the life experience necessary to understand and relate to younger generations.I also understand the concerns of parents as I'm friends with many who have small children, and can relate to their concerns and experience while diplomatically explaining how best each particular child can achieve academic success.

Although I majored in geology, I enjoy english, science, and history.I try to make subjects relatable to everyone, using cooking, sports, or other analogies to break down complicated principles.I began as a teaching assistant my sophomore year at Brigham Young University. Since this time, I have performed as a teaching assistant for 14 University-level courses. I have also tutored students at all grade levels.I like to spend time with my husband, 4 rescue cats, and two bunnies. I also create wheel-thrown pottery, play guitar and piano, read, cook, or spend time outside.

I have a very extensive experience in teaching and tutoring. For 20 years I taught third grade with most years averaging mid fifth to mid seventh grade level for the entire class on standardized test scores. This includes Special Education and Learning Disability students. Some students attained post high school progress while in the third grade. When I trained other teachers, they got the same results. I was given honors by the Governor of Idaho. I have also taught abused children at a private school. Tutoring experience includes elementary Reading and Math, high school Algebra at the Houston ISD, and English as a Second Language to students and adults. Tutoring individuals or small groups is the key to success for many learners having difficulties or for learners who want to excel in success.

I graduated from Mercy College in 2006 with a degree in Psychology, and am currently in graduate school pursuing a masters in Early Childhood Education. I have been teaching for over five years. My teaching style tends to be hands-on and creative, and I do not believe that all students learn the same way. It is important to me to respect a student's learning style and adjust my teaching approach accordingly. While much of my experience comes from working with young students, I tutor a broad range of subjects. I am especially passionate about reading and literature, and love helping students realize books can unlock new worlds and ways of thinking.
