My name is Seth, and I live in Washington, DC. I grew up in central Pennsylvania, in the heart of Penn State country. I have been teaching and tutoring since my junior year at Syracuse University, and I enjoy it immensely. At Syracuse, I worked with a program called Literacy Corps, tutoring students from all over the city. After graduating, I entered an AmeriCorps program in Pennsylvania, teaching full time for a year. I feel that having tutored for so long and being so recently out of school gives me an advantage in helping students. I intimately remember the struggles of trying to learn material that just wouldn't click in my head. Given that, I like to go about tutoring from that place of understanding. I believe that just because the material doesn't get through to a student, that doesn't mean it's unable to be learned. I'm excited to find new, creative ways to help in the education process.

I received my Masters Degree in Special Education from Long Island University in Brooklyn, NY. I was a classroom teacher for 13 years, I am a certified Special Education Teacher. I believe that all children can learn, each child learns in his or her own way. I will keep trying to find the technique that works best for each of my student's so that they can go forward toward reaching their educational goals.

I am currently an upper elementary teacher through Teach For America, and I've passed all of my elementary certification exams, while working on finishing my teacher license this academic year from calumet college, St. Joseph. My undergraduate degree is in Economics from the University of Chicago, and I did a lot of statistics, too!I like having kids how to read, write, and do math. Because I loved doing those in school, and I'll be teaching that this up coming school year. To have a struggling reader all of a sudden love reading and attack hard words never before tried is the best feeling in the world.I believe education should be fun, loving, inviting, challenging, and organized.

I'm a rising sophomore at Georgetown University studying Mathematics with minors in Physics and Economics. I'm also pre-med and hope to be an orthopedic surgeon someday. While I originally hail from Cape Cod, MA, I will be spending most of my summer in Boston taking Organic Chemistry at Harvard. Outside of the classroom, I'm a part of Georgetown's club rugby team and also participate in GUMSHOE, a club that teaches math and science to inner city students. I also enjoy going for runs to the monuments in DC and playing in pickup soccer games!For me, I especially enjoy tutoring mathematics because I think it serves as a foundation for a number of other subjects and also enhances problem solving ability. I'd like to see those I tutor consider studying mathematics in college just like me.
