I have always been enthusiastic about helping other students. I had the benefit of working with supportive tutors in high school, and I want to share that experience with others. I've taught a wide variety of high school level subjects including SAT prep, biology, and even tennis! I am a senior at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign pursuing a degree in Biology on a pre-dental track. While my major is Biology, I am also very passionate about math and chemistry. In my past experiences teaching, a common issue I found was students feeling overwhelmed by the study material. I use a methodical, step-by-step approach that simplifies the question, and I hope to make learning a simple, enjoyable experience for my students. In my spare time, I enjoy lifting, basketball, and playing the guitar.

I am really excited about working with students in the Philadelphia area! I grew up in Northern Virginia and graduated high school with an IB diploma. For college, I moved to Houston to attend Rice University, where I majored in Psychology. I then earned a masters degree in Religion at Yale and I am now working towards a degree in Bioethics at UPenn. I also completed the premedical requirements during this time.In Connecticut, I worked as a chaplain in a community hospital. Upon moving to Philadelphia, I found a position at CHOP as a research assistant and then transitioned to a job as an OB/GYN research coordinator at HUP. Outside of academia, I work as a barista and I skate on an adult synchronized ice skating team in Philly!

I have recently completed my Masters in Comparative Social Policy at Oxford, in the UK. Before starting my Masters I worked with people coming out of human trafficking situations. During undergrad, I studied International Studies and Human Rights at the University of Chicago (where I graduated with Honors and the highest awarded bestowed upon a graduating student). I am a native Washingtonian and attended National Cathedral School.

I believe that everyone can learn, provided the teacher finds the proper channel through which to reach the students.I was born in Martinique, raised in Paris where I studied latin, Greek and philosophy. I have a DUEL from University of Paris X/Nanterre. I later moved to New York City and Chicago where I obtained a Bachelors in jazz Performance/Upright bass. I also graduated from DePaul University with a Masters in Education and from Vandercook College of Music with a Masters in Music Education. I have taught music in the chicago Public school system, as well as tutoring students of all ages in French, since it is my native language. I do miss speaking my language and I am still an avid reader of French literature, be it the classic or the most recent literature of the francophone world: Africa and the Caribbean.I am passionate about sharing my language and my culture and hope I can share this passion.

As a medical student, I tutor because I know that we all need a little help sometime. There have been many moments as a student that I felt overwhelmed by too many facts, but in those moments I've always made it through because I found someone to talk it through with. Instead of drowning in a sea of facts, my personal learning philosophy is to find the big concepts and fill in the facts from there. I love watching students "get it"-- its exciting. Learning shouldn't be about memorization but understanding.

I am a graduate of The University of Texas where I received my PhD in the Humanities with a focus on History and Literature. In addition to my extensive experience in the classroom, I have also raised a child with learning differences so I am keenly aware that everyone learns at their own speed and in their own way. There are no quick fixes and the student must be a party to their own success. I firmly believe that with organization, a good work ethic, and the proper learning environment, all students can do well in school. However, the most important ingredient is self-confidence, which is only achieved through accomplishing target goals. In the classroom, I concentrate on the individual needs of each of my students by helping them with organizational skills, reading, research techniques, and especially writing. This approach enables each student to not only develop their own style, but provides them with learning tools which can be applied to other areas of study.

I hope to share with students my knowledge of over 20 years in the profession of pharmacy. Teaching and seeing a student's mind light up motivate me to keep giving as much as I can, to keep learning and growing myself and to keep sharing and mentoring with my students

Hi,My name is Raven and I am a recent graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago. My major was psychology and minor was sociology. In the upcoming fall, I will be attending UIC's Jane Addams College of Social Work where I will be work to earn an MSW in the mental health specialization. My goal is to one day become an licensed clinical social worker and work as a therapist. The subjects I can tutor in are clinical psychology, IB psychology, english, american literature, high school american literature, high school writing, middle school reading, middle school writing, middle school reading comprehension, social sciences, and spelling bee prep. I also can help with essay editing.

My sense of humor follows the 80/20 rule: 80% of my jokes work about 20% of the time. When I teach a class, if I haven't made them laugh at least once then I've failed.I know what it's like to suffer as a math student. Math was my hardest subject in high school and even made me cry sometimes. When I got to Calculus, though, everything came together and I came to see the beauty in mathematics. I continued this cycle of suffering followed by joyful understanding when I studied math in college and then grad school, and now that I'm finally out of academia, I can relax and share my experience with others.When I engage in an hour of private tutoring I tend to go over-time by around fifteen minutes if I need to do so to wrap up whatever we were working on. Teaching is a passion, a calling, and a compulsion for me.
