Twelve years ago, I did not know a single word of Chinese. I started my first lesson at age 18, and struggled through that first year. Gradually, I rose to the top of my Chinese class and graduated with highest honors.I have lived in China the past 8 years. In that time, I have completed a Master's in Chinese and have a trove of life experiences: making sales, running focus groups, holding events, coaching frisbee, forging friendships -- all in China, all in Mandarin. I am fully fluent in reading, writing, and spoken Mandarin, but more importantly, I have an up-to-date understanding on how to interact with Chinese people today.I want to emphasize that I was not a "natural" language learner. I do not think there is such thing as "natural" language learners. I have found from my own experience that patience, hard work, and a sense of humor make all the difference in learning a difficult thing such as Mandarin.In terms of teaching, I like to use as many real-life situations as possible, to bring the language to life. Learning a language is hard, but it should always be inspiring.

I have a MA in Public Policy, BA in Sociology, AS in Intelligence Operations with a focus in Counterintelligence, and an AA In General Studies. I spent 12 years in Military Intelligence, but I am by no means a drill Sergeant ; ) I am also certified to Teach English as a Foreign Language, and as an Adult Basic Education Tutor. I also trained as a dog trainer. So I have a pretty broad range of knowledge and experience. I have taught thousands of soldiers in a variety of subjects and I would love to assist anyone here to learn more about any topic that interests them, or they just need to learn to pass ; ). I am a Junior Undergraduate, majoring in Psychology. I am passionate about topics in psychology and natural sciences. Tutoring provides an opportunity for me to give students the tools and guidance they need to succeed in their courses.

I am a current PhD candidate in experimental geophysics at MIT. I have successfully tutored dozens of students for the GRE; these students report not only higher scores but deeper understanding of the material, even in areas they have struggled with for years. Many of my students have not taken relevant quantitative courses for years and have forgotten much of their fundamental math skills, but after working with me for a short time, they are able to achieve great GRE quantitative scores. Students also enjoy my approach to the verbal section, where we work on decoding the questions and narrowing answer choices based on the type of question. I focus on a strong understanding of the concepts being tested as well as on test-taking skills. After working together, all of my students feel more comfortable entering the exam and sure of their own abilities, and nearly all of my students end up meeting or exceeding their original score goals.

I am a graduate student at Suffolk University in Boston studying Medical Dosimetry. I graduated with an undergraduate in 2015 in biomedical engineering. Since 2015 I have been a high school science teacher. I have taught AP chemistry and AP Physics for multiple years and I am confident that I can reach any student where they are and help them get to where they want to be.

I am currently majoring in Biomedical Engineering at Boston University, under the Presidential Scholars Distinction Program. My hobbies include playing sports such as Soccer, Basketball, Football, Tennis and Track and Field. I also love playing the guitar in my spare time and love spending time with my family and friends. Further, I love learning about new cultures and languages; I am able to speak three languages fluently.My goal as a tutor is to provide students with the utmost comfortability in asking questions and learning to their full potential without any hesitation or concern about answering a question incorrectly, after all, in order to learn we all make mistakes.
