I've always thrived in an academic environment. I love learning for the sake of learning, and in turn love helping others on their educational journey. My teaching philosophy is centered around building a deep understanding of the material, I have my students complete problems themselves and offer support and explanations when there is a question or a gap in their knowledge. I spend a lot of time thinking of ways to visualize complex topics, and finding ways to communicate over a wide range of learning styles.I am one of those who needs tactile, auditory and visual methods of learning to really deeply absorb a topic, so I try to listen to my students and approach their lessons with the lens which fits them best. I love big concepts and like to connect simple skills to the larger picture in a way that stops anyone from coming from a lesson saying "Why should I learn this?". No matter how old they are, or whether they are passionate about the subject, learning is a joy and I hope to impart that lesson above any other to my students. :)

I am a Doctoral student at the University of Washington in the department of Public Health Genetics. I study how people respond differently to medications because of their genes. As a result, I spend a lot of time thinking about Biology, Chemistry, Statistics, and Policy. I love to teach and work with the Pacific Science Center as a Communication Fellow.I attended Stanford University for both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Biology, with a minor in Chemistry. While there, I researched the immune system and how asthma and allergies develop. After college I managed a summer camp where I developed my love of working with people and the mountains. In my free time, I can be found hiking, backpacking, and snowboarding.

I was born and raised in Westwood, MA, a suburb of Boston and have lived in the area ever since. I attended Boston College as a Biology/ Pre-med major, but also studied Russian Culture and Literature. After working in a lab in Boston for several years studying the molecular mechanisms of cancer, I decided to further my education in graduate school, exploring a new scientific direction. I recently completed my Ph.D. studies in Neuroscience at The University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester. My thesis investigated the neural circuitry and neurotransmitter systems underlying food-reward learning using fruit flies. While trained in neurobiology and genetics, I've always had a passion for everything science, from all aspects of biology to chemistry and even theoretical physics and cosmology. I've also always been fascinated in history, from ancient civilizations to European history through modern day U.S. History.I've tutored students across a range of ages and experience. I've mentored several local high school students in their science projects, two of which went on to win awards at the regional competition. I mentored a group of first-year graduate students in the UMass Biomedical Sciences Curriculum. In lab, I've instructed and mentored many incoming lab mates from undergraduate technicians to post doctoral fellows. When I'm not in the lab, I can usually be found playing guitar and songwriting with my band, listening to new music, hitting the slopes on my snowboard or just spending a night in cooking interesting new dishes or baking bread. My goal is to always engage my students on their level and get them as excited about the subject matter as I am. I believe its my own thirst for knowledge and the drive to always know more about what interests me that makes me a highly effective tutor.

I am a recent graduate of Stanford University with a BS in Chemical Engineering. During my time at Stanford, I tutored high school students in subjects ranging from non-AP and AP math and science courses to ACT/SAT test prep. Since graduating and before heading off to grad school, I have been tutoring full-time. In my free time, I love to watch sports, play sports, cook, and play with my dog.In my 5 years of tutoring, I have worked with over 200 different clients. This has allowed me to see the wide range of learning styles students have and has allowed me to develop a flexible teaching approach that will excite and help every type of student. I do not just get the homework done with the student or show the student how to do a problem. I go step by step to ensure the student understands why we approach the topic the way we do. Not only does it help the student frame the purpose of the topic, but it also helps the student commit that topic to memory long-term.Come work with me, and you'll be sure to see long-term results!

I believe that a successful tutor has three key characteristics: 1) teaching/tutoring experience; 2) a passion for and mastery of the subject matter; and 3) empathy for the different kinds of challenges that students face both inside and outside the classroom.First, having actual teaching experience (as well as tutoring experience) exposes one to a wide variety of students and learning styles, which I believe are crucial to adapting to different students and their academic needs. In my case, this has included three years of teaching Chemistry I, Advanced Placement Chemistry, and Physical Science in the public-school system (North Carolina and Georgia). Moreover, I have been a certified tutor for Sylvan Learning Center for almost a decade in all levels of Math, Science, Reading Comprehension, and Writing Skillsincluding Elementary, Intermediate, and Advancedspanning all age groups. In addition to these topics, I have tutored students in standardized test preparation including all sections of the SAT, ACT and the GRE.Helping students achieve is, for me, rooted in my love of the subject matter, an enthusiasm I hope to transmit to all of my students. I was a scholar-athlete in high school and continued on to a liberal arts education at Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina. While there, I majored in Chemistry and swam competitively. My background also includes research in Synthetic Organic Chemistry during a semester abroad at Queen's University in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Currently, I am finishing my graduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in Applied Physiology and Neuromechanics, and enjoy the computational and theoretical challenges that my degree entails as it involves fundamental understanding of bioinformatics, genomics and biostatistics. At every step of the way, I have found new things I love about science, and continue to feel the thrill of learning as the different fields continue to change and evolve. Finally, a successful tutor has the ability to empathize and understand the different challenges that specific students might face, whether they are academic (learning to focus, tackling particularly difficult topics, managing their time), or personal, which can often infringe on one's ability to complete their academic work. I love helping students come up with strategies to maximize their potential and help them to overcome these obstacles and/or meet these challenges. Nothing provides the fuel for enthusiasm like seeing a student understand something for the first time or have an 'a-ha!' moment. I believe that a tutor sensitive to a students specific needs can help every student find the joy in any subject, as well as the best way to tackle it given the students strengths and weaknesses.

I am a current Middlebury College student graduating in 2022.5 with a major in computer science. I have a ton of experience working with kids, as I spent several high school summers volunteering as a junior camp counselor for elementary school students and a teaching assistant for third-graders who failed their reading exams and also academically gifted elementary and middle school students. In college, I've served as assistant director of an organization which gives free STEAM lessons to local girls and also been an introductory computer science department tutor for the past year and a half. My junior and senior year of high school, I attended a school which specialized in math and science, and I'm excited to share my passion for learning with others! I try to make concepts approachable and fun for kids, using adaptable teaching methods.

I have tutored extensively since 2008 and have thoroughly enjoyed working with students to help them reach their potential and to achieve more than they thought they were capable of. Having recently graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with a B.S. in Chemistry with Highest Distinction, I know that hard work and dedication to your education can pay great dividends.I have tutored students from middle school through college-level and had tremendous pleasure of helping over 50 students achieve their potential and dramatically improve their grades and test scores. Seeing the students I have worked with succeed provides me with tremendous satisfaction and drives me to continue tutoring.I specialize in tutoring for standardized tests, including the MCAT, GRE, SAT, and ACT, and have scored in the 99th percentile on the MCAT, SAT, and ACT. I also tutor the sciences and can cover all science topics up to advanced college-level chemistry and biology. As a science major and experienced tutor, I understand that the sciences pose unique and varied challenges to students. One of my primary goals is to meet students where they are, understand their specific needs, and develop an individualized plan that challenges them and helps them succeed. To this end, I do not follow a specific formula during sessions with my students. Instead, I work with my students to build a plan that meets their goals and helps them achieve success.I look forward to helping you succeed in your studies!

My interest in Biology started at a very young age due to spending a lot of time outdoors. I am intrigued by the functioning of living organisms and how they are all linked; one small change in one species will affect a whole range of others. I’m fascinated by what makes something ‘alive’, and how something as complex as the human body can exist. I often brought home mice, birds and insects to study their behavior more closely.During my high school education I was more focused on Biology subject than other subjects due to my childhood interests in the things related to life. After completing my 12 year education I pursued my educational career in life sciences and did my Bachelors in Biochemistry followed my Masters in Molecular Biology. Due to interests in life sciences I became able to publish three (3) international publications in the field of Biological sciences. After that I started my Doctoral degree in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics and currently I am working on "bioplastic producing bacteria".I like teaching as a profession and I take it as my hobby. I have many relatives related to teaching profession. I started teaching when I was an undergraduate student. I taught Biology to high school students. During my PhD coursework I taught microbiology related courses to undergraduate students for one year. Now I am working with San Jacinto College Central, Pasadena, TX as Microbiology instructor. That is why I want to pursue my professional career as a professor of Biology.
