I also have another job as an emergency medical scribe, where I work in 3 different ER's throughout Phoenix, AZ.My philosophy towards learning is simple: everything is connected. To me, whatever the concept may be, it is not about learning the facts or knowing what the answer is, it is about seeing the bigger picture and understanding how those concepts fit in with our larger body of knowledge. My research topic is agroecology, specifically how carbon and nitrogen ratios in from shade trees in coffee agroecosystems influence ground-dwelling ant communities. My over-arching theme is decomposition and nutrient cycling in ecosystems and I got about answering questions about this in various ways (e.g. ants). At the University of Michigan, I have served as a graduate student instructor in two courses both at the undergraduate and graduate level. Having the opportunity to teach and mentor students at those levels is very exciting. Nevertheless, I love to introduce students all levels of new concepts and ideas. I most enjoy teaching/tutoring concepts of ecology, biology, chemistry, and environmental science. I am also a native Spanish speaker, hence tutoring Spanish lessons comes naturally to me. With a strong work ethic and extreme dedication, I was accepted into the PhD program in chemistry at the University of Washington in Seattle where I will begin this journey this fall. I have been an active varsity tutor for two months; however, I have two years of hands on teaching experience where I was a general chemistry teaching assistant at ISU. My overall passion for teaching was highlighted this past semester where I was rewarded an excellence in teaching from the chemistry department along with receiving an ACS award in inorganic chemistry for my undergraduate research. I primarily focused on general chemistry on varsity tutors; however, I also tutor subjects related to physical chemistry such as quantum mechanics, thermodynamics, and kinetics.
