I am a current student at Guilford College pursuing a degree in Biology, and I would love to help any student find their passion in math and science! I especially enjoy teaching cellular biology and botany, as those are my academic specialties. I love working with visual learners especially to help create diagrams and charts that can take information to a new level. Outside of the classroom, I like to hike and tend to my plants in my garden. Let me know if I can be of any service, either online or in a local coffee shop!

Currently I am a research technician at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center. I graduated from The George Washington University with a BS degree in Cellular and Molecular biology with a philosophy minor in mind-brain studies. I am a tutor with over 7 years of experience. I have tutored high school and college students struggling with STEM subjects such as biology, chemistry, earth science, Pre-calculus, geometry, and algebra. I have also tutored US and World history courses. I am a trained university learning assistant (ULA). ULAs assist students by enforcing techniques of teaching that cause students to use metacognition and reasoning skills. I am passionate about education as it is a fundamental human right. I am very experienced in teaching students with IEPs as well as other learning impediments. Every student matters!

I went to college thinking that my high school studying style was enough, and experienced academic setbacks along the way. After learning my mistakes and figuring out studying strategies that best worked for me, I was better able to learn efficiently in college and also consult outside sources as well as my professors both of which contributed to my learning even further. The steps I took in this way made me a better person and an overall proactive student. I want to help become a part of the process of helping students not just learn their subjects better, but also learn how to study better by focusing on strategies that help better optimize learning for any particular topic.I am particular helpful with MCAT Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems preparation, as well as other college subjects like Organic and General Chemistry.

I have a passion for education that extends across a few scientific and mathematical disciplines. Currently, I am available to tutor middle school and high school Algebra, middle school up to college level Biology, General and Organic Chemistry, and Biochemistry. I received my Bachelor's of Science from the University of Arizona in Biochemistry and Molecular Cell Biology last May, 2013. During my tenure their, I was a preceptor for Organic Chemistry courses and published work in a cancer research lab. Last August 2013, I was given the opportunity to teach 2 General Chemistry lab courses as an adjunct faculty member at Paradise Valley Community College. Currently, I am applying to medical schools across the country with the intention of matriculating next Fall 2015 and obtain my MD or DO by 2019. I also have another job as an emergency medical scribe, where I work in 3 different ER's throughout Phoenix, AZ.My philosophy towards learning is simple: everything is connected. To me, whatever the concept may be, it is not about learning the facts or knowing what the answer is, it is about seeing the bigger picture and understanding how those concepts fit in with our larger body of knowledge. Learning is a process and knowledge comes with both failure and success. I hope that if you choose me as your tutor, I will be able to convey this message and help you learn more than just the cold hard facts. Also, learning is fun and can be very rewarding! When I am not working or studying, I enjoy exercise and hiking, reading non-fiction and popular science work, and discovering new music with my friends. I am #3 of 6 kids. I have 4 sisters, 1 brother, 5 nephews and 2 nieces. We love being a big close family and I try to help out with my younger family members' schoolwork when I can. I have been married to a lovely woman for 2 years now, and she is a fantastic portrait artist. We have a little dog named Mr. Biggs and he is basically our child, with quite the personality.

I am a graduate student at the School for Environment and Sustainability at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. I am completing my masters degree in Conservation Ecology. My research topic is agroecology, specifically how carbon and nitrogen ratios in from shade trees in coffee agroecosystems influence ground-dwelling ant communities. My over-arching theme is decomposition and nutrient cycling in ecosystems and I got about answering questions about this in various ways (e.g. ants). At the University of Michigan, I have served as a graduate student instructor in two courses both at the undergraduate and graduate level. Having the opportunity to teach and mentor students at those levels is very exciting. Nevertheless, I love to introduce students all levels of new concepts and ideas. I most enjoy teaching/tutoring concepts of ecology, biology, chemistry, and environmental science. I am also a native Spanish speaker, hence tutoring Spanish lessons comes naturally to me. I am committed to helping move beyond their barriers and excel in their education. When I am not in the laboratory, I enjoy running, hiking and training with my dog.

Hello! I'm Jerry. I'm an award-winning chemist who graduated cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Clarion University of Pennsylvania. I also have three years of graduate-level chemistry, physics, and mathematics coursework from Temple University. As an undergraduate, I tutored many peers in math and science and developed an understanding of how to effectively communicate ideas and concepts in a fun and engaging way. I do everything in my power to ensure learning math and science is a pleasant experience, and bring my personal flair and passion for the discipline to every meeting. My lessons plans will generally follow the text that the student is accustomed to, with additional tips and tricks from my own favorite texts and personal experience. However, I am *very* flexible, and my methods can be tailored to the student's individual needs.

In May 2020, I earned a bachelor of science in chemistry with honors along with a dual minor in animal ecology and anthropology at Iowa State University. With a strong work ethic and extreme dedication, I was accepted into the PhD program in chemistry at the University of Washington in Seattle where I will begin this journey this fall. I have been an active varsity tutor for two months; however, I have two years of hands on teaching experience where I was a general chemistry teaching assistant at ISU. My overall passion for teaching was highlighted this past semester where I was rewarded an excellence in teaching from the chemistry department along with receiving an ACS award in inorganic chemistry for my undergraduate research. I primarily focused on general chemistry on varsity tutors; however, I also tutor subjects related to physical chemistry such as quantum mechanics, thermodynamics, and kinetics. I throughly enjoy tutoring physical chemistry because I love the math involved with this field along with the practical applications physical chemistry can offer such as molecular spectroscopy. My teaching philosophy is to assess the current understanding of the student and build on the current knowledge they have learned. I am very patience with my students. I make sure to break down the material taught in the class and remold it into helpful "chunks" of information that is hopefully easier for the student to digest. I am extremely adaptable as well where I offer different strategies such as visual/tactical approaches based on the needs of the student. Outside of academia, I watch Tv shows, play video games, and enjoy taking walks in nature. I have a genuine passion to teach chemistry and if you have any further questions feel free to contact me!

I am a recent graduate from Stony Brook University and have received my Bachelors of Science degree in Biology. Over my undergraduate career I have tutored many different students ranging from grades 4-12 as well as several college classes. I have always loved being able to work with a student or colleague to find the right answer of a difficult question. I tutor math (Calculus, Geometry, Trigonometry, Algebra) as well as SAT math, English, and science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Biochemistry). I really enjoy tutoring math and English! Math always has an answer to work towards and can be taught using various mediums. English is also a favorite subject of mine as I love to read and write and love reading the works of others. I like to tutor subjects by working through problems with students and practicing problems. Outside of academics, I enjoy hiking and have almost finished half of the Appalachian trail. I also enjoy archery and shoot olympic recurve style.
