I'm Connor, a computer science, linguistics, and Japanese major at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I'm in my third year expecting to graduate in May next year.I'm passionate about education and have experience tutoring in high-school and teaching programming at College Gate and College Academy summer camps. I am a junior at the University of North Georgia. I am majoring in accounting with a minor in Japanese. I have been teaching with Varsity Tutors for two years, focusing mostly on preparing students for the ISEE and teaching Japanese. The subjects I most enjoy teaching are Japanese, math, and English, though I am happy to help in whatever subject is needed, including reading comprehension and history. I enjoy helping others to become the best at a subject as possible, and I believe that the learning process is just as rewarding for the tutor as it is for the student. I have taught students from preschoolers to adults with a variety of learning goals.I am currently teaching Japanese at the Japanese American Society in DC and at a local language school to teach Japanese to US government fellows chosen by a Japanese foundation as international exchange candidates.I was born in Sendai Japan and moved to Tokyo when I entered University. I am a graduate of Keio University in Tokyo Japan. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy with a focus on Ethics and Philosophy in Terminal Care. I was always fascinated by the wonder of human life and had a wonderful experience at the Hospis as a spiritual care volunteer worker for 3 years.While I was at college, I also studied English a lot to become an interpreter by attending a vocational school.I started to work as a tutor when I was a college student and taught some middle school and high school students. I thought Japanese, English, and Math. Some students needed support for their school work and test prep, and some wanted to study intensively for the college entrance exams.It was a lot of fun and rewarding to teach when I received positive feedback from my students and their parents, and saw the students enjoy learning. I am really happy to see them overcome their area of weakness and gradually gain confidence!I worked as a translator and interpreter at a Japanese NPO, a Japanese heavy industrial company, and a patent law firm in Washington DC. I raised my 2 children bilingual and did homeschooling for 3 years while the COVID pandemic. Currently I am studying for my medical doctorate degree (M.D.) at the Medical College of Wisconsin. I graduated UCLA with a Biology degree with Asian Languages minor in 2019, cum laude honors. Both during my undergrad and days since, I had a chance to tutor private clients in Southern California and work for a few exam prep companies. I enjoy tutoring math, sciences (chemistry, biology mainly), social sciences (history, politics), essay writing, and Japanese. I also help assist in studying for standardized exams (SAT, ACT, SAT Subject, AP, MCAT, PCAT, OAT)! My tutoring style will be very direct in trying to identify gaps in knowledge and working/practicing on those gaps. I like to be interactive and answer the students' questions directly. I strongly believe education is one path in which students may be able to reach their dreams and I will be your supporter along the way. I'm currently go to UMGC where I major in Computer Science & East Asian Studies.I believe that there isn't just one style to teach students. I like spending more time to get to know my students to better understand how to help them. I've worked with ESL students and collage students for English and Japanese. Through that I found out that everyone is different and have gone through different experiences. So they deserve a more personalized approach when it comes to teaching.

I tutored throughout high school for several hours a week, and when I became a senior I supervised other tutors as president of the National Honor Society. Throughout college I was involved in the Emergency Medical Services as a first responder. I've taken many different courses in many different areas, from computer science to Japanese. I believe it's important to have a solid education in today's world, and as a tutor I emphasize the importance of being prepared for tests. I want to make sure the students themselves can rehearse what they have learned, and that they themselves feel confident in what they are learning.
