I have always loved school and learning! I've been tutoring since I was 12 and spent a lot of time in middle and high school tutoring or helping with test prep! I've also spent a good amount of time working with special needs students (of all abilities) with speech, as well as music therapy! I've tutored in Math, Sciences, Music, Music Theory, Piano, Voice, and SAT prep! I do have experience in other tutoring areas as well. I strongly believe in tailoring every lesson/plan to each individual student, since every person is different, we all learn differently! I am a multi-disciplinary theatre artist and voice teacher, with a 15 year background in professional performance and a B.M. in Music Theatre Vocal Performance from New York University. The theater is where I began my community-based education in the performing arts; its influence grounds my intersectional teaching praxis. I believe strongly in the educational sovereignty of the performing arts as a field of study. I continually strive to educate my music students through an intersectional lens that values engagement with critical thought.As a former middle school math teacher and long-term math tutor, I'm exceptionally well equipped to tutor all levels of mathematics through high school. I am a Berklee College of Music Graduate, a recording musician and a songwriter. I specialize in songwriting, guitar, bass and music production. I am a strong proponent of expression and brain development through music as the skills are highly transferable in life. I am a graduate of Oberlin College and Wesleyan University and I am currently a PhD student at Harvard University. I received my BA in English, my BM in Jazz Studies, and my MA in Ethnomusicology. My PhD research is in West African music. I have many years of experience as a tutor, beginning as a writing tutor for a college writing center, then giving private music lessons, and working as a teaching assistant for undergraduate students in music and African studies courses. I tutor in many different areas, but my passion is in working with students in writing, literature, critical reading, music, and French. In working to prepare students for standardized tests, I can offer a wide variety of strategies for vocabulary, writing, and time management. As an educator, I am particularly interested in the transitions from high school to college, and from college into the professional world. Outside of teaching, I enjoy playing and listening to music, hiking, playing soccer, and spending time outdoors.

I am most passionate about helping students discover themselves within and learn to express emotions through music. I also love music theory, especially chordal analysis, and it's ability to help students better understand what it is they are singing and playing. I love what music can do to improve lives and am a big proponent in teaching social-emotional strategies in the musical context.
