I am a recent graduate of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. Since graduation, I joined the Rhode Island Teaching Fellows where I had the opportunity to work towards a teaching certificate and begin my journey in the classroom. I spent the past year teaching 10th and 11th grade students life science and chemistry.Outside of academia, I enjoy going for long runs. I used to be a sprinter while I was still in school and decided to take on the new challenge of long distance running. I also enjoy various other activities such as kayaking, indoor rock climbing and running off to amusement parks as often as possible. Additionally, I am an avid reader and am always looking for a good book to read on a typical afternoon. My teaching philosophy revolves around breaking content down as much as possible so that all students can understand. I believe even the most complicated of materials can be understood if the teacher takes the time necessary for students to build their skill set and confidence and this was especially useful to me in my time as a chemistry teacher.

After graduating in 2004 from Washington University in St. Louis with a BA in English Literature, I spent some years developing my craft as a writer of fiction and poetry, working for my family in Somerville, MA. In 2012, I decided to switch careers and focus more professionally on my writing, which I accomplished by returning to school to earn my MFA in Creative Writing. I began this second lap through academia at the New School in Manhattan before transferring to St. Joseph's College in Brooklyn, where I was part of an inaugural first class based around a new style of teaching writing. I graduated from SJC in 2015.While at St. Joseph's, I gathered experience in the classroom, both as a teacher of the required freshman composition class, as well as a tutor in the school's ACES program. The ACES program caters to international students or students who speak English as a non-primary language. Over the course of my tenure at SJC, I realized that the personal and direct education of the tutor and tutee relationship agrees more with my teaching style than the more generalized teaching in the classroom. I decided to focus on tutoring.I have recently relocated to Providence with my wife and young son, and I am eager to begin a new era in my career in this city.

I am a student at Brown University pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. In high school, I took a multitude of AP and college courses, so I am qualified to work with students on challenging material. I took high-level mathematics courses at a local university while in high school and participated in gifted programs as well as internship and research opportunities. My most recent tutoring endeavors include: tutoring math and reading for a variety of grades from K-12 and working for a private tutoring company as an SAT instructor, leading test-prep classes for high school students. I continue to pursue my educational and personal goals while at Brown. Although I am most experienced in the maths and sciences, I also love teaching English subjects as well as social sciences. I also value community involvement and have a love for the arts. I have danced for more than 15 years, on company teams and for benefit events in several communities. I also really enjoying figure skating, swimming, and participating in robotics programs and other enrichment activities. I have a passion for learning about and tutoring the maths and sciences because I have always been curious about the world around us, and science is a process of searching for fundamental and universal principles that govern causes and effects in the universe. I enjoy tutoring students for the opportunity to aid them in their quest for knowledge and to help them to question the world around them. I am a strong proponent of education and am excited to guide other students, helping them achieve their educational goals!

I'm a Math and French major at Brown University, and I've been tutoring for over three years. I have worked with young kids taking elementary-level math, middle school students taking Pre-Algebra and Algebra, high school students taking Pre-Calculus and Calculus, college students taking Calculus I/II and Linear Algebra -- and any level in between! Tutoring is one of my favorite activities, because every student I work with teaches me something new about my field. In addition to doing math and writing French poetry, I play the piano, contract bridge, soccer and tennis. I am also a passionate vegan, and hope to one day combine math and language into a field that draws on both the sciences and the humanities.

I have been working in tutoring in some form since high school, when for two years I volunteered as a mentor to a kindergarten student from a disadvantaged background through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. During my college years, I went on to again serve in a teaching and mentorship role by serving as a camp counselor for children ages 6 to 12. In that role I particularly worked with boys between the ages of 8 to 12 by being their primary supervisor and was responsible for their daily schedules, wellbeing, and helping them have the best experience at sleepaway camp.In addition, I transitioned into academic tutoring during college. I served as a teaching assistant for three college geoscience courses while pursuing my bachelors in geology, and these roles helped hone my skills in explaining concepts, presenting information and ideas, and connecting with students to help better understand how to aid their learning. For my work as a teaching assistant, I was awarded the 2015 Jan Tullis Undergraduate Teaching Assistant Award by the Department of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences of Brown University.I believe that connecting with students and ensuring clear communication between tutor and student is paramount to successful learning, and I work to create a constructive, collaborative learning environment. Remaining flexible and adapting different learning strategies based on the strengths of each student helps to ensure that each student’s goals will be achieved. My personal interests include history, geography, playing hockey and golf, and travel. I was a member of a pirate-themed a cappella group while in college so singing and learning sea-shanties also holds a special place in my heart. I live in the wonderful little city of Providence, R.I., and, having grown up in Montana, very much love New England.I look forward to working with all students, and believe I will serve as a positive force to aid learning objectives. Thanks for your time and attention in getting to know me a little, and I look forward to working with you.

STEM education creates critical thinkers, increases science literacy, and supports the next generation of innovators. It is those innovators who will improve the infrastructure and the global standing of the US in the coming years. STEM is gravely important for children, future generations, and our nation. Science and math are found in mechanisms and activities of everyday life. Our generation, the next and our entire nation should embrace STEM in order to advance in the changing times. It is because I think so highly of education that I decided to attend one of the most prestigious higher institutions in the world. I am attending Brown University and working to attain my Bachelors of Science degree in Biology. For over a decade now I have been tutoring elementary, middle and high school students in STEM courses. I am very confident in my abilities to tutor any student with any learning capabilities. I am patient, experienced, and skilled enough to teach and tutor most students. I tutor STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) driven courses more frequently than others. I tutor Biology, Anatomy, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Algebra, and many other STEM courses. On top of those I also coach students with their writing and literacy skills.Tutoring allows me to fulfill what I believe to be a fundamental responsibility as a scholar: to communicate knowledge to the next generation of academics so they can further develop this world. STEM education in the classroom is important to spark an interest in students to pursue a STEM career. If students attain more science and technology skills they can aid the country's progression and advancement. I want students to appreciate and value science and math and after being tutored by me foster a greater appreciation and affliction with STEM. My commitment to education can be seen in the work I have done to provide opportunities for scholars to improve their knowledge. I have tutored and continue to tutor student in every location that I am in and show them opportunities available to me. Currently, I am a director of a stem education program called SPARKLE which was created to increase STEM education, challenge young academics, and aid STEM disparities.Outside of academia I volunteer and play sports . For the past decade I have been doing hours of community service and volunteering for children, adults and elderly. Out of these groups I focused primarily on children because of my love and compassion for them. I want to impart the knowledge, experience and understanding that I have gained on my own throughout the years onto these children. On top of volunteering I play sports. My favorite sports are soccer, track and field, and volleyball. I have been playing soccer for over 15 years now and playing volleyball for a little less than 5 years. I have been doing track and field for about 7 years and I am on my universitys varsity team.Thank you for taking the time to read this statement. I look forward to working with all my students and if applicable their families.

In an educational climate increasingly reliant on the power of the scantron, I believe that learning should exist beyond the small, graphite-dark bubbles that are as dull as the knowledge they are supposedly able to convey is exciting. I'm an electrical engineering major at Brown University with interests in neuroscience, linguistics, and robotics, among other things. I've always loved learning, and my curiosity has led me through numerous subject areas. I constantly seek to apply my classroom learning in practical situations. For example, I have conducted research on dementia using electrophysiology in a mollusk model. I participate in hackathons and robotics challenges that test not only my programming ability but also my hardware skills as a tinkerer. My engineering pursuits require a strong foundation in mathematics, my interest in the life sciences calls for a myriad of memorization techniques, and my participation in the academic world at large reminds me daily of the importance of sharp writing skills. I hope to share some of these things, both content and technique, with my students. Though I will make sure that they can come away from each session armed with the skills needed to take on the modern education system, I also hope that they will take with them some appreciation for learning itself.

My tutoring strategy---I was recently in medical school and before that, I studied pre-dental where I mostly had A's in all my classes.I studied pre-med in college because I thought I wanted to go to medical school so I ended up taking many pre-med courses. I am an excellent student in the math and science courses and well-qualified to tutor in these subjects.I am also well- qualified to tutor the SAT I, SAT subject tests, PSAT and other standardized tests as I took them myself and did quite well on them.Having been through the testing experience and having taken those tests myself, I know exactly the types of issues that students struggle with and am well qualified to overcome commonplace obstacles to help them be successful in their courses. Also, I tutored in my high school's after school program where I helped many struggling students achieve great success in their classes. In medical school, I peer tutored many of my fellow classmates by helping them develop better study strategies, helping them with time management, and brainstorming solutions such a color coding notes, and teaching them to study smarter, not harder.I tailor my tutoring techniques to individual students based on their level of preparation and what exactly they're struggling with. Is it content? Is it time management? Is it developing better study skills? I am very versatile and am able to work with students of all age groups and backgrounds to address what they are struggling with to help them achieve success in their studies.I love learning, teaching, enjoy studying, and am eager to help other students learn and achieve success in their studies.
