For the past 25 years I have been teaching and tutoring students from Elementary to College. I truly love to see the "light bulb" pop on when a student understands something they have been struggling to learn. I personally believe everybody can learn. In my spare time I read and write books, cook, play basketball, make mix tapes and dance. I can dance anything from the Waltz to the Whip and Nene.

Having been involved in the education field for five years now, I have come to truly appreciate the impact educators can have on our youth. Being witness to and a part of such great change on an individual basis continues to inspire me to inspire others. I have loved literature all my life for having the ability to transport a reader into a world where imagination is not limited to a television screen. I have loved non-fiction for having the ability to open up our world as it was, as it is and as it could. I have loved writing, in all its forms, in more recent years for having the ability to communicate thoughts, information and creativity. It is my goal to help all my students see what great powers reading and writing have and to allow them to apply their reading and writing skills to everyday, "real world" situations. I believe that my passion for my subject matter and my ability to make reading and writing accessible and applicable to life will help students of all ages and levels see the value in furthering their reading and writing skills.

I am a college grad with degrees in math and economics. I enjoy these subjects and am excited to help those who need it.

Currently I am a certified teacher in Idaho and Illinois. I have been a 4th Grade and 2nd Grade teacher where my focus was on my student's success and building individual connections with each student to help me better understand how and why they learn. During my time as an educator, I have increased students reading scores in fluency and comprehension by 38% - 76%. I am a graduate of Mount Holyoke College, where I majored in French and served as president of Bellatrix Science-Fiction/Fantasy Club. I went on to earn my M.A. in French Literature at Rutgers University where I caught the teaching bug by tackling all aspects of instruction for two French 101 classes as a Teaching Assistant.My passion for education led me to accrue seven years experience as a High School French teacher in New Jersey. Through additional experience in one-on-one instruction, such as Homebound Instruction and private tutoring work in both French and English, I have grown to treasure the degree of individual attention, immediate feedback, and flexibility of approach that tutoring offers. I love incorporating students' interests into exercises and examples, and I specialize in developing mnemonics, songs, and other tricks to help students remember new or challenging information. In addition to offering my students strategies for retaining information, I am committed to helping them understand material by helping them see how new information connects with their previous knowledge or with other subjects.As a former French teacher, language and literature are my particular strengths. I love helping students tackle and master vocabulary, reading, literature, and writing (in English or French). However, I also enjoy math; a geek to the core, I sometimes work Algebra equations or calculate the angles in a regular shape just to keep my skills in shapes. I can comfortably provide tutoring in Algebra and/or Geometry as well as time-saving strategies for the math sections of standardized tests.In my off-hours, I indulge in a wide range of interests and hobbies. Since I was ten years old, crafts have held a special place in my heart; embroidery, crochet, and wire-and-bead jewelry claim most of my crafting time, and I design Celtic knotwork-inspired cross-stitched bookmarks. I've enjoyed gardening for nearly as long as crafting, and I love nurturing a vegetable or herb plant from seed to harvest. In keeping with my love of language, I'm also an avid reader. As a fan of science-fiction and fantasy in particular, I have attended and helped plan conventions in Massachusetts and New Jersey since 1994.

I have 5+ years of experience in teaching both Physics and Chemistry at the collegiate level. My philosophy about teaching Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics is that helping students develop insight, deep intuition, and a profound level of intimacy with concepts leads to a greater appreciation of the topic, an innate desire to learn it, and unavoidably, HIGHER TEST SCORES. I connect concepts with real world examples and bridge topics with multidisciplinary applications, helping students see the connectedness of the physical sciences and mathematics.
