I am an undergraduate Biological Engineering student at Utah State University. Over the past 5 years, I've gained experience privately tutoring students from 1st-12th grade in subjects ranging from simple math to AP Chemistry. I am capable of tutoring a variety of subjects including basic and complex math, English, biology, and chemistry. I am most passionate about teaching math, I find it rewarding to the confidence of students to grow as they become better at math. Other than that, I have been studying Mandarin Chinese since early 2015, Italian since 2007, and grew up speaking Spanish and English at home. I hold degrees from George Mason University (in Virginia), Boise State University (in Idaho), and Roskilde Universitet (in the country of Denmark!). I have been a professor of geology for about 10 years. When I'm not in class, I spend a lot of time traveling to National Parks.

I am a senior at Utah Valley University working towards receiving my bachelors degree in Elementary Education. I have a passion for learning and try to spread my enthusiasm to my students. I believe a positive attitude is one of the strongest forces in the world and use that to help students succeed. I have always wanted to be a teacher and have done many things to help me get those teaching opportunities. I taught a Preschool class my senior year of high school. I have also been working in a kindergarten class for two years. Through opportunities provided by the coursework at UVU, I have been able to teach a few lessons for every elementary grade (K-6). I have also taught piano lessons for the past six years. My favorite subjects to tutor are Math and English (with an emphasis on phonics). Math has always been my favorite subject and it is the one I have excelled in. I have recently found a passion for phonics and see it as a very important skill for people to learn.

I currently hold a BS degree in electrical engineering, and work at an Engineering firm here in Salt Lake City doing radio frequency design and programming work. I love tutoring and helping others learn and achieve their education goals. A big part of tutoring is showing students that they can do the work and giving them that belief in themselves. I mostly tutor Math (basic math through calculas), but also tutor writing, engineering, and many other subjects.

Some people can naturally figure things out without a lot of explanation. In most things, I'm not that guy! Like many students, understanding comes with repetition of principles and hard work. I have the perspective of a student trying to understand, not a teacher trying to preach. I love working with people from the ground up; we start at the comfort zone and work our way to improvement. I know I don't know everything, so I'm excited to learn as well!

I have always loved helping others, and I've found that I do my best work in a one-on-one environment, like tutoring. I graduated from BYU with a bachelor's degree in communication disorders, and I will be working as a speech-language technician for Nebo School District, starting in the fall. I lived in the Dominican Republic as a church volunteer, and I am fluent in Spanish.I understand that students retain best what they do themselves. For this reason, my tutoring philosophy is to allow the student to go as far as he or she can alone and then give the tools necessary to figure the rest out together. This process continues until the student feels confident doing the work alone.
