A graduate of University of California, Berkeley, with a B.S. in Chemistry and a B.A. in Biology, I have a strong foundation in math and science. Since graduating from college, I have spent my time traveling to France, working a an academic tutor for middle and high school students, volunteering in the Emergency Department of a local hospital, and (most recently) applying to medical school. My favorite part about tutoring is working to engage students to feel as excited and interested as I do towards the material that I teach and hearing my students tell me that they learn more with me in an hour than they do in an entire week of school! When I teach, I strive to let my students know that they are in a safe place where no question is too insignificant to ask while simultaneously encouraging them to be active participants in the sessions so that they can better retain the material we cover and better analyze problems or questions for improved success! Some of my favorite activities outside of work include breaking out some tunes on my violin or guitar, experimenting in the kitchen with cooking various cuisines, staying active outdoors, and playing with my friends' and family's cats.

I have always appreciated education and the many ways it is relevant to our life. I am a recent college graduate from UC Riverside with a BA in Psychology. Being able to say that I have a college education is a privilege and an honor to me because I feel I am making a difference in my life and my family's life being the first one to graduate from college. Along the way I had many struggles and difficulties being an immigrant to the US. I did not know English or had any friends or family other than my parents and brothers. I worked really hard and good people supported me in my journey. I know how hard getting an education can be and how students can feel overwhelmed with accomplishing their dreams. That is why I would do my best as a Varsity Tutor to influence and help students grow in their journey as productive members of our society. The journey starts from a young age and developing good habits and a positive mind set is valuable from an early age. I am delighted to be part of Varsity Tutors and making a difference in students life.

I have been a math teacher for 10 years; I love math and I love teaching!I totally get it: for most people, the end-goal of studying math isn't to become a mathematician or to fall deeply in love with division and derivatives. For most people, math is just a tool that they need to use (or study) to achieve a goal (becoming a doctor) or to accomplish a task (figuring out how much paint you need to paint that funny shaped room). So, I don't expect my students to love math because of its inherent beauty. They might, who knows? I just want to help them use math to achieve their own goals.

I graduated with honors from the University of California, Riverside with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics - Applied Mathematics/Economics and a minor in Statistics. I love math and want to use what I have learned to help others succeed in math classes. As part of my experience in college, I was a supplemental instruction leader and involved in math reader programs, which developed my teaching skills in different levels of mathematics. Even after I graduated, I still continued to do small group teaching in a private education institute and some one-on-one tutoring. When I see my students are struggling with math, I am always patient and use different approaches to make sure they understand the material before moving on. I can also teach Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese too. If you are also interested in learning Chinese, that's a bonus! I enjoy tutoring, and with my experience, I believe I can be a great help!

I have a BA with Honors in English Literature (University of Lancaster) and a MA in English (SFSU). I specialize in helping students become better essay writers by teaching them simple and useful tricks to make their English or Composition class less intimidating. I also am passionate about Literature (my area of academic study focused on Epistolary Literature of the 18th century) and I am comfortable teaching it through the undergraduate, AP, and high school level.I believe that learning should be fun for every student-- and if it isn't, you're not doing it right! It's my ambition to help a student become excited about what's in front of them (yes! Of Mice and Men IS exciting and so is literary theory, too!) and really begin to understand the broader implications of the text, as well as how to articulate that successfully in academic writing.Professionally, I work in the corporate communications within San Diego's biomedical industry. I have a great job that utilizes my degrees, but tutoring is something I do because I want to continue to share my passion and knowledge with others.I hope to hear from you soon!

I graduated from USC with a B.S. in Neuroscience and a minor degree in Spanish. My degree provided me with a strong foundation in chemistry and biology; my courses emphasized the brain's biological and chemical processes and how these processes relate to human behavior. As a board member of a student organization, I prepared a unique lesson to present to thirty peers on a weekly basis. Two years of experience in this leadership role provided me with strong communication skills, expertise in various instruction strategies, and the ability to excite students about learning. I'm particularly passionate about chemistry, and am excited to share my enthusiasm for science with others. With the life sciences, I emphasize overall understanding in place of rote memorization. With math, I stress practice to best develop critical thinking and problem solving techniques. These are general strategies that can be adapted to meet the unique learning style of each student. While not tutoring, I love to dance! Jazz and ballet are my main passions, but I enjoy all dance styles. I also enjoy spending time outdoors hiking and playing with my dogs. I also appreciate a good science fiction novel when I have time.

As a UC Berkeley graduate and community college Instructional Assistant, I have developed a passion for education and personal tutoring. Years of experience writing creatively, academically, and professionally have provided me with the skills necessary to assist students of all ages with their essays and homework. Whether the student is just getting started with brainstorming and idea development or putting the final touches on a paper and in need of help revising and editing, I am here to assist and encourage in any way possible. I believe in developing a student's skills over a period of time, rather than simply providing the short term answers simply to achieve an immediate grade. Writing is a skill we develop over the course of our lives, always learning and improving, and it is a skill we will always need, whether we're writing high school essays or cover letters for promising careers. I look forward to helping every student develop and refine their written skills on an individual basis, paced for the student's needs. Thank you.

Tutoring is my passion. I like to help young people understand subjects that they have trouble with and help them realize that it's possible to succeed in them. I have a lot of patience and I am always happy to answer questions. I realize each student is in a different place in their math path and each student learns differently so I do my best to treat each person like an individual. I have over 10 years of experience in teaching and tutoring as well as a California teaching credential.

I currently work as a math tutor at Mathnasium: The Math Learning Center, where I've been for the past year and a half. I've also tutored German privately and had 9 years working in church youth programs. My education has been through American River College and Sierra College, with my current degree being an AS in Mathematics for Transfer.I love to be curious about everything and to spark curiosity in others through teaching. My goal is not just to have you understand something, but to be able to have fun with it, be able to sit down, play around with the pieces, and by doing that learn something new about it. Learning is exploring: as a tutor I see myself as a guide, my job is to get you excited about the topic so that you begin to ask questions and piece together the picture yourself. My interests include board games, video games, science fiction/fantasy, fiction writing, language, ballroom dance, and most anything having to do with science.

I am a retired high school teacher. I have taught all levels (9-12 grade), and all aspects of English. No matter what I taught or when I taught it, I have always enjoyed the student-teacher connection more than any other part of teaching.I am especially good at helping with writing no matter the writer's level. Working on writing is a chance to also work on grammar, punctuation, organization, including outlining, and finally writing the paper. If a student learns this process, they can write a response for any situation.Once the process is learned then writing for other classes, all the way from a short answer to a research paper, becomes so much easier! After graduation and entering the work world, knowing how to write a response is a crucial tool. More and more businesses demand their employees write.Be it writing, or any other academic challenge, I hope to help you reach your potential, connect what you are studying to the real world, and have some fun while doing so.
