My interest is to utilize my knowledge in General Chemistry and Math to tutor others who are having difficulty with these subjects. I am currently attending the University of Maryland at Baltimore County for Math and Chemical Engineering B.S. degrees. I have been tutoring for over two years and absolutely love it!My teaching style depends on the student I am teaching. I am comfortable with any type of student and all learning styles and tailor my tutoring sessions based on each student.

I completed my high school education at Walter Payton College Prep and just finished freshman year at Harvard. I have always had a passion for both learning and working with others. I have never been afraid of asking others for help on homework or classwork and have been eager to help classmates seeking help.I first got exposure to tutoring as a volunteer in the LIT program, a program designed to help under-privileged kids catch up in reading and writing. On top of being a part-time tutor, I have experience helping kids working as a camp counselor at Fred's Camp and Camp Chicago as well as taking on babysitting jobs around my neighborhood. In my experience as a tutor, the most important thing I realized was that there isn't a cookie cutter way of teaching any subject to any student. Each student is different, and I pay attention to their learning style and adjust accordingly. I strive to not only make sure students can solve each problem but that they thoroughly comprehend the concept as well. After finding the weak points in their understanding, I introduce problems and ask questions that specifically target those areas.I look forward to meeting you and working with you to reach your academic goals!

I recently graduated from The University of California, Los Angeles, with a Master of Science degree in Geochemistry with a focus on Biogeochemical Oceanography. I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Gwynedd Mercy University in Biology with minors in Chemistry and English. My tutoring experience began in high school when I was able to help my little sister who was struggling in Math. I continued to tutor students in various Science and Math courses throughout high school and college. I worked as a Science and Math tutor in the Academic Resource Center in my University’s Library for the later three years of my undergraduate degree. During graduate school, I worked as a teacher’s assistant in several Earth Science and Climate courses. Since finishing graduate school, I have been given a position as a lecturer at Gwynedd Mercy University in Statistics, both in class and online. I tutor Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Statistics, Environmental Science and Physical Science. My favorite subjects to tutor are Biology and Biochemistry because I find it fascinating how everything on the planet, from the smallest molecule to the largest organism, is in some way connected to, and affected by, each other; I love understanding how and why those interactions work. I believe that every student is an individual who learns differently than anyone else; therefore it is my job to figure out how a student learns and then teach them the material in a way that it not only makes sense but becomes interesting. One thing that I love about tutoring is that, unlike in the classroom, I am able to work one-on-one with a student and teach the material in a way that makes sense to that individual student. Outside of academics, I love to be outdoors and travel. My favorite activities include rock climbing, sailing, horseback riding, caving, SCUBA diving and hiking.

Hello! My name is Alex, and I am a 3rd year student attending the University of British Columbia majoring in Statistics and Computer Science. I am looking to tutor students in the subjects of Mathematics, Programming, and Statistics. I believe that the process of learning is delicate. From introducing concepts in a basic framework to ease initial struggle, to pushing my students to complete challenging problems to solidify understand, I believe each step in the process is essential, but should be adjusted to each student. At the end of it all, I feel there is nothing more rewarding than seeing my students solve problems involving concepts that they once had never known.I have a few years of tutoring experience in high school, where I voluntarily provided math and science homework help for kids at the Greater Lawrence Technical School. I also worked as a tutor at the Russian School of Mathematics for a year. My experiences in these positions, and working as a kids ski instructor for a winter, provide me with a solid foundation not only as a teacher, but as a mentor and caretaker for children. I am patient, sympathetic, but, if required, I can also be demanding. I would love the opportunity to teach your child :).

Ever since I can remember I have been interested in problems that have a clear answer. One of the reasons I love Mathematics is because when you arrive at an answer, it is either right or it is wrong. There is very little room for gray area. I find solace in this, knowing that problems are completed correctly with a replicable process. Using this passion, I achieved a BS in Statistics at Virginia Tech and also minored in Mathematics and Actuarial Science. However, I also love tutoring other subjects and showing students some of the tricks that can be used to find answers. So often students get bogged down in the process and do not realize what they are doing so when a "curve ball" problem is thrown at them, they are clueless and start to become anxious. My goal is to get the students to understand the larger idea and then find the easiest way of coming up with an answer. This way, they know when they arrive at an answer that cannot be right and know where they are making their errors.

I enjoy Math related subjects and have tutored and taught Math courses like Algebra to PreCalculus and Calculus in both High School and College levels. I have obtained my Masters degree in Mathematics plus 7 years later, my PhD, also in Mathematics. In the US, I have lived a year in Washington State (Seattle area) and close to a year in California (Los Angeles area). Outside the US, I grew up and resided in the Philippines (Manila area) until moving to Texas (Houston area) in 1994, which is the year after I obtained my doctorate in pure math. I speak English and Filipino fluently & can manage simple conversations in Spanish. My goal is to make a difference, one student or one class at a time by helping each person learn incrementally their math related material.

I am a student at the Barrett Honors College, a part of Arizona State University. I expect to earn my Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics with a focus on physics in December 2022. While my degree has had a heavy focus on physical sciences, I have also completed a variety of coursework in social and life sciences to prepare for my post-graduation plans. After graduation, I hope to earn either a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or a Master of Science in Entry to Nursing Practice and begin work as a pediatric nurse. I decided to change my path from mathematics and physics to nursing because I perform best and feel happiest when I am working with others, which is why I am so excited to have the opportunity to be a tutor. I first realized my passion for people-centered work in high school when I volunteered with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to help educate financial donors and newly diagnosed families on the science of type 1 diabetes. My passion grew throughout my time in college, during which I joined a division of a Rotary club, which matches people of all ages with service projects within their local community, became a teaching assistant for a Socratic-seminar discussion and writing course for freshmen in Barrett Honors College, and worked as a student researcher in a physics lab, where I had to collaborate with my colleagues to address research problems and clearly present my specific field of work to others who were less well versed in the topic. My tutoring style is based on my own educational experience. I draw on tips and tricks that teachers and professors of mine have used which really helped difficult concepts to "click" for me. Most of these techniques associate silly stories or acronyms with concepts, as psychological studies have shown that people are more likely to remember a concept if it is tied to something unusual and memorable. That being said, I believe that every student has their own unique learning style, and so I am always happy to adjust my tutoring style to the needs of a student. Otherwise, I hold tutoring sessions by reviewing a concept and tying it into helpful learning devices, working through practice problems with a student while answering any questions they may have, and then summarizing what was done, answering final questions, and constructing a goals list at the end of a session. I mix homework and test-style problems with fun games like Jeopardy and Kahoot to keep students engaged while preparing them for what they will see in class.I look forward to working with you and helping you to succeed and achieve your full potential as the intelligent and capable learner that you are!
