I was in sports talk radio for eight years. I believe being successful comes down to knowing what you want and then knowing how to get it. That's why I believe a tutor/teacher/coach can be so important. They have been there themselves and want to pass on their knowledge and experience.If you can become clear on those two things, the learning and growth will come. It will come even faster with personalizing your working and applying it to your life.I was doubted in middle school and high school in even getting into college. I ended up doing fairly well on tests and got into a good college. I know what it's like being on both ends.Learning is about being open minded and realizing how much you don't know. With that attitude, work ethic and technique students can truly do better than they ever thought possible.

I originate from the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area and have recently moved to New York with my fiancée. While I miss the steady, temperate climate of the Bay Area (seriously, it’s either kinda warm or kinda cool year ‘round), I am looking forward to the adventure of living on the East Coast and experiencing legitimate seasons for the first time!Prior my move, I tutored AP US, AP European, and AP World History, AP Government, and taught SAT and ACT prep classes for a Bay Area based College Prep Academy. I also wrote several historical and literary articles for a startup educational software developer, and worked alongside my best friend on a successful political campaign for a local city councilman. In a nutshell, I am abundantly passionate about anything history related and/or political in nature.I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History from San Jose State University in 2010 and capped it off with a Master’s Degree in Military History from Norwich University in 2013. In my downtime, I used to constantly tinker on my Ford Mustang. Unfortunately, the ‘stang could not make the trip back east, and is currently being store with my family in California. To occupy my free time, I binge watch hot rodding shows on the Velocity channel, read fantasy novels, play video games, or simply jam out to some epic Power Metal.

I went to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and earned my BA in History and Psychology with a minor in Leadership Studies. While studying at UIUC, I also tutored at the junior high - introductory college course level in social studies and related subjects are my forte.As a tutor, I find that its easiest when the student learns in a guided manner, rather than bland memorization or content exposure. With one on one teaching, it is possible to do this effectively and, with effort, will lead to higher absorption of material - and yes, higher grades.Outside of tutoring, I'm currently a contractor at Scott doing IT work. It keeps me busy but also allows me to use downtime to continue my own education. I'm on track to continue on to earn a secondary education endorsement, and likely won't be stopping there, as I find the technology of education fascinating. I also substitute teach at a few local schools as I'm available, and I'm a pretty avid baseball, soccer, and Formula 1 fan.

I am admitted to practice law in California, Colorado, Massachusetts, New York, and the U.S. Virgin Islands and have worked in both the private and government sectors.Since 2006, I have been a writer, homeland security/emergency management consultant, and instructor. I teach homeland security, emergency management, and public health classes, and design homeland security classes. My favorite subjects to teach are government/political science and homeland security. The first helps me understand our amazing system of government, and the second is about protecting it.My teaching philosophy stems from theories about adult learning (andragogy). Rather than the teacher simply spewing facts (pedagogy), the teacher is a facilitator of learning to a motivated learner. Students need to know facts, but learning is more than that. It includes thinking about the material.

I am a current undergraduate student at American University. I'm working my way towards a double major in International Studies and Mathematics, with a minor in Arabic with the hopes of someday pursuing a career in cryptography and cybersecurity. Meanwhile, I was spending countless hours reading, drilling flash cards, and reworking problems without receiving the same results. School just never came naturally for me, and I often felt incompetent, unmotivated and embarrassed to ask for help. Thankfully, I had wonderful teachers, mentors, and tutors along the way that helped me master the strategies and techniques that worked best for my studies and inspired me to love learning. I became increasingly confident throughout the years, eventually earning a spot at my dream college and currently pursuing a career that I'm truly passionate about.I now wish to pay it forward and be a positive influence for the students that are frustrated in school. Based on my own experiences, I recognize how important it is to form a relationship with the student to where they are comfortable with seeking assistance and communicating their feelings and frustrations with me. Once a rapport is established, I'm able to identify the students' disconnects and convey the confusing concept or strategy in a new and understandable way.
