I'm a recent graduate of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania where I received my degree in chemistry with a concentration in biochemistry. During my time at Edinboro, I was offered a tutoring position with the chemistry department in the beginning of my junior year. From then on, I was a constant face in the tutoring room, absorbing knowledge from other tutors and helping fellow students who needed it. This is where the majority of my tutoring experience comes from. At Edinboro, I tutored many different chemistry subjects, including General Chemistry, Principles of Chemistry I and II, Organic Chemistry I and II, Biochemistry, and Analytical Chemistry. Currently, I am working at Pittsburgh Plate Glass (PPG) as an analytical chemist in the chromatography department. My job at PPG allows me to use my chemistry skills every day to analyze incoming samples and keep my chemistry knowledge fresh. My goal as a tutor is to ensure that students get the knowledge they need to not only pass a test, but to understand the material in a way that will help them use their knowledge for future classes and beyond. Outside of science, I enjoy reading (Harry Potter!), skiing, playing The Sims, and enjoying the wonderful foods the world has to offer.

Anatomy Tutor • +32 Subjects

I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. in Biology and Vanderbilt University with my M.D. and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology. After that, I completed a residency in pathology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and became board certified in anatomical and clinical pathology. For the next seven years, I did post-doctoral research at Vanderbilt University. While I enjoy research immensely, I also love to teach! For the last seven years, I have taught AP biology, honors biology, college preparatory biology, as well as anatomy & physiology, AP psychology, and ACT science prep. At the college level, I have taught anatomy & physiology and pathophysiology to nursing students. One of my very favorite things to do when I teach or tutor is to bring real-world meaning to whatever topic is being studied. How much easier it is to remember details when someone can explain why it's relevant--why it relates to YOU!I bring a positive attitude and patience to tutoring, and I work hard to assess how I can best help each client. We will discuss how you learn best, and we will tackle anxiety issues with proven strategies. We will work to turn an "I don't know if I can..." to an "I'm getting the hang of this!"In my free time, I enjoy making handmade cards and jewelry, reading, and spending time with family.

I am a sophomore at the University of Texas at Dallas. I am majoring in Neuroscience with a minor in Art, in the hopes of going to medical school one day. I have had extensive experience tutoring students, ever since I was a high school student myself, in art, PSAT, math, and science. I am most passionate about teaching math and science, as the critical thinking skills developed from these subjects can be applied to multiple aspects of our lives. I always found myself being able to connect with students more via these subjects, as their puzzle-like nature seemed to appeal to students the most, especially once we discovered the teaching style that suited them. I witnessed that a tailored and unique teaching style shows remarkable improvements, both in the subject matter, as well as the students' general reception of academia. I strongly believe in the importance of education and its role as a critical tool, which enables individuals to improve the quality of their lives and develop lasting connections. In my free time, I like spending time with my family, doing art, running, and reading.

I am a PhD in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology with Thesis work in Microbiology. I received a B.S. in Biochemistry from Boston College. I never really thought I would get a doctorate in science- I found science to be quite challenging while I was doing my undergraduate studies. Learning how to study efficiently was really important for my success at Boston College and in getting into a PhD program. I hope that I can help my students learn how to learn by taking big complicated theories and applying them to every day examples. I will share the tricks I learned for studying efficiently so that my students can quickly absorb and understand what they need to know to pass an exam, a class, or take a standardized test.My favorite subjects are Biology and Chemistry (not surprisingly), but I have also tutored Math and Physics successfully to my fellow undergraduates at Boston College as well as high school and middle school students. I found that it is not the content but how you learn it that really is important on test day.Among the skills I hope to pass along include how to memorize loads of information and mechanisms (this is for those aspiring Biologists out there), how to recognize patterns in Chemistry so that you only have to learn ONE mechanism instead of 100, how to know what equation is the right equation for the problem at hand, how to do a problem from start to finish using logical steps and tapping into the knowledge you already know, how to eliminate wrong answers on tricky multiple choice questions, and how to efficiently study so that you still have time to relax and have a life (very important for success).Contrary to popular belief, most PhD students do not live in the lab. I like to get out and explore New York, watch Netflix marathons of Dexter and Orange is the New Black, and go out with friends as often as possible. Music is my passion and I try to get out to as many shows as possible in this great city. I even ran a non-commercial radio station back in Boston! Because I learned how to study early, I have time to do what I want instead of locking myself inside a library every time I have an exam. I hope to pass this great skill on to you so you can be successful but also well-rounded and happy with your life.

I am an aspiring physician with over 3 years of experience in helping high school and college students fulfill their academic potential. Over the years, I tutored over 100 students from 20 different states and 6 foreign countries. Each one of them learned and studied in a unique way, so I would always take the time to assess their strengths and weaknesses in order to provide them with the best learning experience. When students choose my services, they are guaranteed to have an extraordinary experience, regardless of whether they are an advanced student or a beginner. My mission is to help my students reach their academic goals by expanding their capacity for learning and making the generalized process of education more personal. Learning is a skill that requires training, pacing, and a lot of practice. It stems from one's ability to process information by reading the assigned text, taking good notes, and carefully choosing exercises and problems to solidify one's understanding of concepts without taking up too much time. Though learning is a universal skill, it manifests differently from person to person. My goal is to help my students find their own way of learning and devise a study plan that will lead them to their goals.
