I always want to do the educational work, because in my opinion sharing the knowledge with others is a AWESOME thing in my life. I received my Bachelor of Polymer Sciences and Engineering and continued my PhD life in Physical Chemistry in Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Then I came to University of Massachusetts Amherst as a Postdoctoral with a focus on Organic Photovoltaic and Electron Microscopy.
During my college time, I have been a 2 years tutor of High School Chemistry As a graduate,I tutored the operation of Chemistry lab instruments. Since graduation, I reviewed several Chemistry scientific papers and posters. For me, Chemistry is not only my major but also an old and good friends who have been accompanying with me more than ten years. One of my favorite saying is "Chemistry is about change, which is changing our life and our world." In my experiences, Chemistry Teaching is to let your students feel Chemistry is NOT a boring "Ivory Tower" lesson But a interesting and basic science in our daily life.
Chinese is my native language. As my view, Chinese has its special beauties, as well as lots of funny relationships with English. So when I teach Chinese, I'd like to help my students open the Chinese adventure.

What is your teaching philosophy?

Rather than feeding the knowledge directly to my students, I prefer to teach the path to obtain the wisdom.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

1, Fully introduction of myself 2, Get familiar with each other. 3, Let him or her feel relaxed and confident about our study.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Keep encouraging, and find out some interest points that can attract him or her.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Step-by-step study. Put some small challenges first that he can easily overcome to obtain achievement.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
  1. Always be patient. 2. Try to use some familiar things to explain slowly and carefully. 3. "Put on his shoes." Try to understand where his difficulties come from.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
