I was a struggling student throughout high school. I was an athlete with a strong work ethic but just needed more out of the box explanations. I used tutoring myself to help increase my grades and understanding that I found invaluable. Tutoring helped fuel my desire to continue my education and I graduated Cum Laude from La Sierra University. After college, I had the utmost desire to give back to students in the same way other tutors had done for me.I have been tutoring now for the last two years. I am passionate about helping students to understand and overcome challenges they think they could have never achieved. I have unwavering patience and out of the box ways of thinking of ways to explain material. I pride myself on being able to explain what the teacher cannot. I also find it best to explain the material by applying the concepts to everyday life or specific interests of the students.

What better way is there to apply knowledge than to explain to others? I enjoy giving abstract concepts substance by discussing them with others, among peers and students alike. The action is also enjoyable on a social level-- there is nothing quite like navigating new material with someone else. It's an opportunity for both of us to discover new ways to relate with what we are learning. It's these sentiments that have made studying Chemistry at Emory University a great experience so far. It's also why I like to tutor Algebra. The subject is all about relationships, and becomes so applicable in other natural sciences. Because of it's versatility, there's a multitude of ways to connect concepts. I like to relate new material with knowledge a student already possesses by outlining these connections. I've found this method to be very effective with my little sister, as well as students at Kumon Learning Centers.Outside of academia, I enjoy running, reading and swing dance. I'm involved with my campus American Sign Language club, as well as residence life.

I am currently a dual-degree graduate student studying International Peace and Conflict Resolution and Counseling Psychology. I graduated from LaSalle University with majors in Communications and Sociology and minors in Film Studies, Central Eastern European Studies, and Spanish. While at LaSalle, I received training to tutor students with different learning styles and cultures in statistics, sociology, economics, religion, and writing.I enjoy tutoring because I love seeing students succeed and gain confidence in their abilities. I seek to adapt and customize my methods to best meet the student's needs and learning style in order to make learning fun and effective. My job is not just to help the student pass a class or test but to learn study skills that will be beneficial for their future coursework.I love being creative with my tutoring methods as well as in everyday life. When I am not tutoring or studying, I work as a professional actress and model as well as an occasional makeup artist and writer.

I am an incoming business school student at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, where I will be starting next fall. I received my bachelors degree in economics at Yale University, where I also worked as an editor to the Yale Daily News.In many ways, I am your typical liberal arts student who is interested in many subjects. I am capable of tutoring English, Math, Economics, Political Science, and History. I am also interested in helping you edit any of your essays and/or applications. As an editor of the daily newspaper at my college, I did this on a regular basis and very much enjoy helping to improve writing. I am a big believer that anyone can learn anything as long as they have 1) the right mentality, and 2) a good teacher. I hope to be the latter. For test prep, I am eligible to tutor all the tests I myself have taken: SAT, ACT, GMAT, and GRE. Most of my tips will come from my own personal experience taking these tests or studying these subjects. I actually tutored a friend in GMAT prep this way, and he went from a 680 to a 760 in one month! My tutoring methods are completely student specific. I will listen to your problems and together we can brainstorm the best way to improve your scores or abilities. I do not believe in applying the exact same template to each student, because each student is different. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you in your endeavors.I am free from 9am-9pm on weekdays and weekends. I live in the Chicago area near the Loop and do not have a car, so it would be more convenient if my students were able to meet me downtown. If the parents are driving, you are more than welcome to stay close by! We can pick coffee shops or public work areas for the tutoring sessions. From Tutor ApplicationI am an incoming business school student at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, where I will be starting next fall. I am a Mechanical Engineering student at Seattle Pacific University, and I love to help others grasp challenging concepts. I enjoy filling in gaps in students' understanding as well as working with students who are new to a subject. In the past, I have worked with students on a variety of mathematics subjects such as: algebra, trigonometry, and calculus. I am confident I can help students grasp just about any math concept. I have always had a drive to understand things completely and this has has helped me develop a comprehensive understanding of high school and early college mathematics and physics. Mathematics and physics are my favorite subjects to tutor because I appreciate the consistent logic that is fundamental to these to these topics. I am confident I can help any student grasp difficult math concepts.I take a systematic, analytical approach to most effectively and efficiently improve the mathematic and/or scientific ability of my clients. In doing this, I follow a four-step process:1) identify the specific, problematic concepts2) develop teaching strategies tailored to the student's age level and personality3) work through the concepts with the student4) use continuous check-ins to make sure the student is truly learning the material, making appropriate changes to my teaching style when necessary.Outside of academics, I love to be creative and to exercise outdoors. Crochet and writing are two of my favorite creative activities. Also, as a result of my participation in band and choir throughout high school, I like to listen to, learn, and write music. Lastly, I love to bike and swim. Whether it is a short ride to the river or a 300-mile ride to the Oregon coast, biking satisfies my inner desire for freedom, and the destination often involves a cool place to dive in.

I am a current undergraduate student at the City University of New York Baruch College and am working towards a Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science with a focus in Economics and Communication. I am an honors student and will also be receiving a secondary degree from the Macaulay Honors College. I have tutored several middle and high school students in Algebra, Calculus, Economics, and SAT Preparation. Many of my students have gone on to do well on the New York State Regents Exams, AP Exams, and SAT and ACT Exams. I am most passionate and enthusiastic about teaching Math because I love how organized and formulaic it is. I have always loved tutoring students because I enjoy seeing them improve in subjects they have previously struggled with.I understand that each student has their own strengths and weaknesses and that some subjects may not be for everyone. This being said, I admit that I used to dislike Math a great deal but I was fortunate to have excellent Math teachers who inspired me and instilled my passion for Math. It is my hope that I can inspire my students in the same way I have been inspired. I would describe my tutoring method as very patient and organized. I always try to understand what the student's strengths and weaknesses are and then go from there. I explain each step carefully and then allow the student to eventually try more difficult topics on their own once I have helped them understand the concepts they need to know. I encourage a great deal of practice and organization to help clarify any problem areas the student might have.Other than academia, I enjoy reading, playing sports, and exercising. I have been an avid reader since I was very young and always try to read as much as I can because it is relaxing, enjoyable, and beneficial. I try to stay active with sports and exercise because it helps relieve stress and is also very fun. I enjoy competing in sports, especially with friends, particularly in basketball and football.

I am a graduate from the University of Washington, with degrees in Physics and Astronomy and a minor in Mathematics. I am taking a gap year before attending graduate school at Rutgers University for Astrophysics, and in the meantime, I am tutoring and working on various academic projects. I have been tutoring math, physics, and astronomy for 3 years. My approach is to help individual comprehension rather than rote memorization.I'm interested in a lot of things outside of just tutoring! I enjoy bouldering, playing the guitar, programming, and hiking with my girlfriend and dog. If you live around the University of Washington, you might have seen me hosting public astronomy nights at the campus observatory or star-gazing in Red Square.

I earned my undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from the University of Texas in 2012. Sometime between late-night excursions to the arcade by my apartment building and various (mis)adventures around Austin with my friends, I also somehow managed to complete an honors thesis on some independent computational chemistry research that I spent about two years conducting. As my degree may suggest, my first academic love is Chemistry, and while I truly do love all the sciences, Chemistry is also my favorite subject to tutor. In addition to having been a volunteer tutor for both middle school and high school students over the course of my academic career, I have also been fortunate enough to have served as a teaching assistant for three quarters of introductory-level undergraduate Chemistry courses, both lecture and lab. When I work with students, either in groups or one-on-one, I enjoy the challenge of trying to re-frame the material in a manner that appeals to their interests as much as their prior knowledge. While making science relatable can certainly be a tall order, as these are tough and sometimes discouraging subjects after all, I find it tremendously rewarding to see a student at last discovering connections between the strange and seemingly disparate concepts encountered in these courses. Finally, as a true believer in the beauty of numbers and the written word, I am also more than happy to aid students in Math and Writing!

I am a second year engineering student located in the New York City area. I have attended one of the top public high schools in the nation and I am currently attending a top engineering school. I have been tutoring professionally for over two years, at a private company and with my own clients. My students have shown great improvements in a variety of subjects, from SAT, SHSAT and Regents prep to Calculus, Physics, and Geometry. I specialize in mathematics, however, my writing and reading comprehension skills are of an equally high level. Having achieved top scores on both the SAT and SHSAT, along with various regents tests, I know what it takes to understand subject matter, and as a result, achieve high scores. I believe that everyone possesses the ability to excel in their academic pursuits. I would love to help you with yours.
