In college, I TAed two computer science courses: an introductory functional programming class and an algorithms class. During my time at Google, I mentored newer team members and helped them grow in their software development skills. I am a PhD student studying marine biology at Stony Brook University, where I study how plankton (very small animals in the ocean) move around and catch food. Before coming to graduate school, I did my undergraduate degree in Biology at Tufts University in Medford/Somerville, MA. My hobbies include knitting, running, and, of course, reading!Another one of my long-term interests is education. I worked with preschoolers for a full year in college through an AmeriCorps literacy program in low-income preschools. Later, I worked as a teaching assistant for five semesters (three as an undergraduate, and two as a graduate student), teaching biology, chemistry, and environmental science. Most recently, I worked at a local tutoring center with students ages 7-16, tutoring reading/writing, English, and math. I have also worked with several high school and undergraduate student research volunteers in the lab.My favorite subjects are math and science, but I also love reading, writing, and French! I spent five months living in France during my undergraduate degree, and I speak near-fluent French. After completing my Bachelors of Science in Biology and Psychology with a minor in Biomedical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, I moved to New York City to begin my role as a teacher. For the past year, I have worked as a high school chemistry teacher at an NYC Department of Education public school in the Bronx. I love teaching and helping students find their "ah-ha" moments in both science and math. I know that these are challenging subjects but I know that every student has the ability to be successful given the right practice and support. I am currently pursuing my Masters of Education from Fordham University. Outside of school, I love to stay active outdoors, sing, and see Broadway shows.

I am a graduate of Cornell University. I graduated Cum Laude with my Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a focus on structural engineering. I am now in the process of applying to graduate schools to continue working towards my Master of Engineering in Structural Engineering. While at Cornell, I tutored Calculus 2 and 3 to freshman engineering students, as well as taught a supplementary course in Calculus 2 for engineers. These supplementary courses were designed for older students to give mini lectures and practice problem sets to students who were struggling in a course, the idea being that older students who have already taken the class may have a better sense of what helped them learn the material than a graduate TA or professor. I mainly tutor Math and Physics, and within these my favorite topics to teach are Newton Mechanics, Algebra, Calculus 1 and 2, Trigonometry and Differential Equations. I do my best to approach challenging topics in a variety of ways until we can find the method that best enables the student to understand the material. In my experience, a concept that made no sense the first time it was taught can become clear if just looked at in a different way. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, soccer, attending theater, knitting, and traveling whenever possible. I've had the great opportunity to spend a year living in Spain and exploring Europe, and I am passionate about continuing to travel and explore other cultures.

I believe that the true goal of education is to build intelligence and character. I always look for the best in my students. I make learning fun by using the best approach in a given situation to boost the learning capacity in my student. One of my greatest and proudest accomplishments is that after teaching and prepping my students for the Caribbean Secondary Education Council, a two year process, they were all able to attain 100% passes.
