I'm a software engineer with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Brown University and over 4 years experience working at Google. I am passionate about learning and problem solving. More than that though, I enjoy helping others grow as learners, reach their goals, and experience how rewarding it can be to master new material. In college, I TAed two computer science courses: an introductory functional programming class and an algorithms class. During my time at Google, I mentored newer team members and helped them grow in their software development skills. I am excited to tutor students in the areas of Computer Science, Math and Standardized Testing.Mastering new material can be challenging. I hope to find ways to make learning fun and to empower students to feel confident in their abilities!

Hi! My name is Sophie and I recently graduated from Indiana University with a BSPH in Epidemiology with minors in Chinese Language and Public Health, as well as a Certificate of Business Foundations. In the fall, I will be attending Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health to get my MPH in Infectious Disease Epidemiology. This past year, I served with City Year AmeriCorps in an elementary school providing reading and writing support.I'm friendly, encouraging, and like to help my students in any way I can! When I was a high schooler, I also had some tutors to help me through school, so I understand what it's like to be in the position of the tutored. Sometimes learning something new is tough and seems impossible, but it is possible and I want to help you achieve your goals! In my free time, I like to watch funny TV shows (currently plowing my way through Adventure Time), sing, dance, enjoy musicals, cook delicious food, and explore NYC (mostly the restaurants). I also love puzzles/games and knitting, and am currently trying to learn Spanish!

I am a PhD student studying marine biology at Stony Brook University, where I study how plankton (very small animals in the ocean) move around and catch food. Before coming to graduate school, I did my undergraduate degree in Biology at Tufts University in Medford/Somerville, MA. My hobbies include knitting, running, and, of course, reading!Another one of my long-term interests is education. I worked with preschoolers for a full year in college through an AmeriCorps literacy program in low-income preschools. Later, I worked as a teaching assistant for five semesters (three as an undergraduate, and two as a graduate student), teaching biology, chemistry, and environmental science. Most recently, I worked at a local tutoring center with students ages 7-16, tutoring reading/writing, English, and math. I have also worked with several high school and undergraduate student research volunteers in the lab.My favorite subjects are math and science, but I also love reading, writing, and French! I spent five months living in France during my undergraduate degree, and I speak near-fluent French. I love working with kids and young adults, and I'd be happy to work with you to develop study strategies and learn new things!

My love for math has led me to gain a bachelor's in math from the University of Florida and a master's in applied math from George Washington University. Furthermore, I have previous tutoring experience dating back to when I was in Math Honor Society in high school plus I have been a graduate teaching assistant for 2 years. So, trust me when I say I understand how hard math can be. But, that does not mean it is impossible. I genuinely believe that anyone can be good at math. You just need time and proper guidance. My goal is for every student I work with to leave with more confidence in their mathematical abilities. You can do it. There is no doubt in my mind.I tutor Algebra and Calculus 1. When I tutor, I like to adapt to whatever the student needs. Do you want to work together on a problem? I can do that. Do you need me to do an example, let you work on your own, and then check your answer? I can do that too. I want to help to the best of my abilities.Pronouns: She/Her

I fully believe that every student should have equal access to quality and engaging education. I believe that access to a tutor allows a student that extra assistance to help them stick out in the classroom and excel over any academic challenge. After completing my Bachelors of Science in Biology and Psychology with a minor in Biomedical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, I moved to New York City to begin my role as a teacher. For the past year, I have worked as a high school chemistry teacher at an NYC Department of Education public school in the Bronx. I love teaching and helping students find their "ah-ha" moments in both science and math. I know that these are challenging subjects but I know that every student has the ability to be successful given the right practice and support. I am currently pursuing my Masters of Education from Fordham University. Outside of school, I love to stay active outdoors, sing, and see Broadway shows.

I am a graduate of Cornell University. I graduated Cum Laude with my Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a focus on structural engineering. I am now in the process of applying to graduate schools to continue working towards my Master of Engineering in Structural Engineering. While at Cornell, I tutored Calculus 2 and 3 to freshman engineering students, as well as taught a supplementary course in Calculus 2 for engineers. These supplementary courses were designed for older students to give mini lectures and practice problem sets to students who were struggling in a course, the idea being that older students who have already taken the class may have a better sense of what helped them learn the material than a graduate TA or professor. I mainly tutor Math and Physics, and within these my favorite topics to teach are Newton Mechanics, Algebra, Calculus 1 and 2, Trigonometry and Differential Equations. I do my best to approach challenging topics in a variety of ways until we can find the method that best enables the student to understand the material. In my experience, a concept that made no sense the first time it was taught can become clear if just looked at in a different way. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, soccer, attending theater, knitting, and traveling whenever possible. I've had the great opportunity to spend a year living in Spain and exploring Europe, and I am passionate about continuing to travel and explore other cultures.

As an educator, it is my goal to cater to every students individual needs as a learner rather than having the student adjust to my teaching style as is so unfortunately demanded by teachers. After my third year at Temple University, I have come to love helping others build the foundations for a strong education and enhance their problem solving abilities. I recently was able to have a position as an undergraduate TA in a high level organic chemistry class which developed my skills both as an educator and a student, because the two are inseparable. I am currently pursuing a BS in chemistry at Temple University and wish to attend graduate school in order to get my PhD in inorganic chemistry. In my free time, I enjoy reading, going out with friends to explore Philadelphia, and learning something new every day!

I am a graduate of Temple University. I received my Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry. Since graduation, I traveled back home to the British Virgin Islands to be with my family and to give back to my home community. For three years, I taught at a private secondary school focusing on 11th and 12th grade biology, chemistry and mathematics as well as 10th grade Integrated Science. I have tutored various students in statistics, algebra, trigonometry and geometry but my passion is teaching biology and chemistry. I believe that the true goal of education is to build intelligence and character. I always look for the best in my students. I make learning fun by using the best approach in a given situation to boost the learning capacity in my student. One of my greatest and proudest accomplishments is that after teaching and prepping my students for the Caribbean Secondary Education Council, a two year process, they were all able to attain 100% passes. I enjoy playing basketball, discussing football, writing poetry and prose and a little bit of video gaming.
