Music lessons always begin with the student playing the music and his or her teacher listening carefully. The teacher doesn't look for mistakes, because no one needs the advice, "Don't make that mistake!". The teacher tries to hear what the student wants and then figures what to work on in order to get there. I've been both a student and teacher of guitar, and I try to take that teaching style into my tutoring. I never start by explaining material or by "simplifying" it (because that usually means repeating it again and again!) but by listening to the student and finding out exactly the student already knows and what his or her strengths are, and move forward from there.

I am an alum from University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Art, majoring in Art History and minoring in French. I tutor a wide array of subjects, but my college experience developed a proficiency in art, history, writing and linguistics in both English and French. I value lifelong learning and want to facilitate that in others. Being a mother of three teenagers, I have learned the importance of building self confidence and personal interest in schoolwork. In my free time, I like to keep active with my family outside, pick up trash, and participate in community events around the city.

I have taught the piano for over twenty years to children and adults. I also was a tutor for a residential high school. For over five years I have been helping adults to lear English as a second language. As an adult I too learned to speak a foreign language and I understand the commitment and motivation it takes to succeed. I enjoy helping others meet their personal goals and it gives me great children to watch children become competent in their schooling. In my spare time I enjoy cooking, reading and homeschooling my elementary aged son.

Since graduation, I have worked in several different colleges doing academic advising and student support. I also spent two years teaching water technology and service learning at a juvenile prison, where we built our own aquaponics system! Most recently, I worked for my state department of health and environment, helping to educate the public about how to keep our water resources clean and healthy.While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about math, science and writing. I find that I master topics (like math and science) differently than others, so I value the use of imagery and illustration when learning complex subjects. In my spare time, I play Minecraft and other video games with my children, and sometimes I get the chance to go fishing, which I love to do.

I am a graduate of Clark University where I received my B.A in Physics and Mathematics. I grew up going between Los Angeles and Paris, always in a French school so I quickly became bilingual.I have always loved science, in particular physics and mathematics and have been lucky enough to share this with others through tutoring. I can help with all levels of math and physics up through graduate level course work. I also can tutor all levels of French as I have taken the French baccalaureat. I started tutoring in high school, everything from math, literature, to French and Latin. I have worked mostly with high school, college students and adults, but have also helped younger students accomplish their goals. I love teaching and find it wonderful when I help my students understand complex concepts. Though hard science can be scary, all my students have come to have a much deeper understanding of it which is a reward in itself.In my free time I enjoy traveling, playing music, and computer programming.In my free time I like to discover new things about the city

I am an accounting major eager to help others with their similar journeys towards professional accountancy. In the fall I begin working for Ernst & Young in their Fraud Investigation department. Everything I have submitted describes me accurately and truthfully. I am ending the end of my college career this May (2020) exiting college with a strong academic background and three professional accounting internships under my belt (two in audit and one at a big 4 firm in tax).

B.A.s in Spanish (with Professional Distinction) and Environmental Studies, University of OregonMorgan began mentoring and tutoring in high school where she attended the aspiring educators program. She taught reading lessons in a bilingual kindergarten classroom, attended teaching conferences, and served as a mentor for freshman students by helping them with homework and adjusting to high school.At the University of Oregon, Morgan developed Spanish tutoring materials and volunteered in the Eugene community. She received a professional distinction in Spanish by completing three internships, including translating legal and scientific documents from English to Spanish for the Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide. After college she gained experience teaching in after school programs, and tutored students in Spain where she was studying as a North American Language and Culture Assistant. When she arrived back in the United States she wanted to continue tutoring and share her passion for the Spanish language.

I find teaching and tutoring to be incredibly rewarding. Seeing somebody else understand a concept through my framing of that concept is the highest form of communication for which I strive. I look forward to working with Varsity Tutors and students everywhere.
