Myron

American Literature Tutor • +18 Subjects

I graduated from Washington State University. My major was Sociology with a minor in Human Development. Later, I became a teacher to assist students with learning disabilities. My biggest revelation was that everyone learns differently.I help struggling students find their learning style and apply it. The process may not be pretty but progress is made . One strategy is "no opting out". Students work on a assignment despite believing they cannot complete it.My approach to tutoring is two-fold for students in elementary school to high school. They must practice skills and learning strategies. This approach does not accommodate college students because of the academic workload. For them, our sessions are project-based. I cover all aspects of an assignment, including examples or critique completed projects.I now focus on entrepreneurial education and S.T.E.M. The subjects that I tutor are: English, Language Arts and Basic Math to Pre-Algebra. I look forward to unleashing the learning potential of future clients.

Adult ESL/ELL Tutor • +25 Subjects

I am a graduate of Hofstra University, where I received a B.A. in English with a concentration in Creative Writing & Literature. I also had minor studies in Spanish and Fine Arts. Additionally, I have received a TEFL/TESOL certification from International TEFL Academy. I enjoy travel and was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to live in Japan for three years while teaching English to children ages 3 to 12 at an after school immersion program. Once I returned home to Massachusetts, I worked at a public elementary school as the 4th grade ESL teacher. Working with kids has always been a lot of fun, and I find it easy to relate to them and see their individual personalities shine. I'm interested in tutoring a variety of English subjects, but I'm most eager to tutor creative writing and essay writing/editing. I feel like my strengths lie in these areas, given my lifelong enthusiasm for writing and literature. Finding the right words to transfer ideas from brain to page can be quite difficult and frustrating, and I'm confident that with my varied experiences editing an array of writing styles, I will be able to assists students in expressing their ideas accurately. In my spare time, I like drawing, reading, writing, and obsessing over my dog.

Jay

ACT Math Tutor • +36 Subjects

I'm Jay! I'm currently going to college at the University of Texas at Austin. I am majoring in fine arts and I am also in the pre-medical program. Even though I'm not done with college, I have already published papers in the field of epigenetics since my freshmen year of college. Even though I consider myself to have an expertise in languages, I decided to teach areas in the field of natural sciences because those are the subjects that I am most passionate about.I was born in Taiwan; however, even before I learned how to speak, I moved to the States. Hence, my first language was English. In third grade, my parents decided to move back to Taiwan to aid in my education of the Chinese language. Of course, learning Chinese as a second language is as difficult as it sounds. With some hard work and the right learning strategies, I was able to get a good grasp on the language and even winning third place in a national writing competition four years after moving to Taiwan.Although I learned a new language during the time I was in Taiwan, I slowly lost my English speaking, writing, and reading abilities. When I moved back to the States in 9th grade, my English was not fluent enough to be put into a classroom with the other native speakers. I worked hard, and I was able to get out of a two-year ESL (English as a Second Language) program in just a semester.I have tutored students since I was in high school in English, Chinese, mathematics, and most subjects in the area of natural sciences. I don't want to just teach my students the subjects themselves. I want to teach them my strategies and SECRETS to learning quickly and efficiently. I am easy to reach and will provide fast responses. Feel free to contact me with questions or to schedule a lesson.I can't wait to speak with you soon!

I believe that the best in people is brought about only when an opportunity for learning opens new doors, inspires new adventures and let's in new possibilities. Without these new vistas can never be reached, doors will remain closed and people will shun new possibilities. Therefore, in striving to be the best you can be, you can open yourself up to the possibility of who you will be. Belief in oneself inspires the passion to consider the self as a means of your own transformation. Therefore, when striving to follow my passion for mathematics, the arts or the sciences, I use a multifaceted approach to learning. Whether more traditional or more progressive, I can lecture and lead or simply allow for your learning to unfold via engaging conversation with the material. When you can bring your enthusiasm, interest and love of the subject material, then teaching you how to hone these skills into a career or passion project you may be working on will be a door wide open. Will you open it?

I have been teaching for over thirty-five years and have enjoyed every moment. To me, education is not just about learning facts and passing exams, it is also about becoming a life-long learner. It is about using knowledge to improve one's life both personally and professionally. There are skills which need to be mastered and this is one important element of education. I also believe that education can improve one's enjoyment of life regardless of the occupation or field of study one pursues.I am especially proficient in the areas of essay writing and editing, proofreading, and the mechanics of grammar and usage. I have extensive experience in helping students prepare for standardized tests such as the SAT. I have also taught AP English and I am very familiar with the requirements of the AP Exam.

Academic Coaching Tutor • +65 Subjects

I am an undergraduate student at the Georgia Institute of Technology. I am majoring in both Mathematics and Literature, Media, & Communication (LMC). My LMC concentration is in Science, Technology, & Culture, as well as Literature. I have been tutoring since high school, and have gained a lot of experience with the ups and downs of learning. I initially started out tutoring math, but over time I have grown to love tutoring literature as well.I believe that tutoring is a job that needs to be customized to the needs and learning style of each student, so I try to pay attention to what works and what doesn't as I get to know each student more. A tutoring session is unsuccessful if my student doesn't laugh at least once at a bad joke I make or a sarcastic comment. Tutoring should be fun, enriching, and empowering for everyone involved. In my spare time I watch a lot of Netflix, make music or art, and ponder life's many mysteries.
