I am interested specifically in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning and have two years professional experience in the industry. I have been employed at companies in California, Pennsylvania, and Florida.Given this, I am strongly suited to tutor in STEM subjects, especially mathematics and computer science.At both school and work, I frequently read technical publications published in recent journals and conferences, giving me the language comprehensive skills to tutor in reading and writing as well.I am an easy-going tutor who will try different approaches according to the needs of the student. I'm currently studying computer science at Northeastern University. I have a full year of experience tutoring high school students outside Varsity Tutors. Working with students is rewarding because there is nothing better than helping someone else understand a difficult concept. We've all had those "aha!" moments, and it feels great to guide someone towards finding that.

I am currently a sophomore electrical and computer engineering student at the University of Texas at Austin. I helped out as a general subject (math, science, history, etc.) tutor at Health Careers High School in San Antonio while I was a junior and senior as part of National Honor Society. My strong academic subject areas are math, particularly calculus, trigonometry, and algebra; although I do tutor up to all high school levels of math, computer science programming in Java, Python, or C, electrical engineering topics like circuitry or programming, and mechanical physics. I really enjoy helping other people out because my motto is "ancora imparo," or "I am always learning." So if I can always learn something, I wish to help others learn and do better as well. My hobbies include exercise, sports, and playing video games, basically anything that engages the body or mind!

As a tutor, I aim to make learning exciting and relevant to children. One of the greatest challenges facing young students is that information is presented to them in a stale, inaccessible way. Specifically in the context of standardized testing, they are asked to memorize and regurgitate information without truly grasping its content; such a style makes it impossible for students to approach unfamiliar problems and think critically, and often contributes to their discouragement and their writing off of entire subjects like math and science. I attempt to give students the ability to think critically, relish the problem solving process, and come to solutions on their own. To this end, I attempt to speak clearly and concisely, to make high-level concepts accessible to students of all ability levels, and to create strong personal relationships with my students. I am currently accepting students in all math subjects through the high school level, standardized test preparation (SAT, GRE, SSAT, PSAT), computer science, writing, study skills and organizational skills.I recently graduated from Vassar College in New York where I majored in computer science with minors in math and art history. I strongly believe in holistic approaches to education, and as a computer science at a liberal arts college, I had invaluable experience studying both math and science while continuing to develop my critical writing, reading and research abilities. At Vassar, I was deeply involved in the computer science department as a tutor and lab coach for several years and as the department-wide academic intern. In these roles, I worked with students of all levels in the department to complete their homework and lab assignments and to study for tests, and held open review sessions and recitation classes for our 100 and 200 level courses. Additionally, I have worked as a middle school tutor and test prep coach and feel very comfortable working with students of all ages and skill levels.

I'm a total fan of Stanford's d.school, where the curriculum is all about the "design thinking" framework for creative problem solving pioneered by the international design firm IDEO. While typically used in startups to develop new innovations, I've found it extremely handy in tutoring. Every student is different and so are their difficulties, so a finite set of ways to present a concept or tackle a difficulty is potentially limiting. In my experience, it's much more effective to use an adaptive framework like design thinking to identify the root of students' issues and find/develop a solution that fits their needs.

I have been a teaching assistant for 8 times and have taught more than 2000 students. One of the best experiences of my life was when I was given the opportunity to teach a class of about 300 students. It was a great Opportunity to see how it looks from the other side. So given that I have been a student, TA and instructor I can bring that all to the table to better help my students understand and learn the subject.
