Nothing is more rewarding than helping someone to make a connection; learn something new or difficult; or to see how they apply this new understanding. Some information can be dry, scary, or very difficult to learn, but I think learning should not only be productive, but also fun.

I am a passionate, reliable, and hard-working student with experience in teaching and tutoring. I will graduate in the Spring of 2016 with my B.S. in Middle School Education: Math and Business Education. I am able to tutor students in Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, or Trigonometry. I am a highly motivated individual committed to giving my all each and every day. I love working with kids. I am enthusiastic about education and learning. I love to empower others and help them to reach their greatest potential. I am patient and driven, and I firmly believe that all students are capable of learning. I value personal interaction and relationships. In my free time, I enjoy running, playing outside, watching movies, playing card games and board games, and spending time with family and friends.I have had several enriching experiences that have led me to where I am. For one summer, I taught Geometry to middle school students through Breakthrough Collaborative in Denver, CO. For two years, I was a Residential Assistant, helping students adjust to college and enforcing policies. I have observed and assisted a middle school business teacher. I have assisted and co-taught with a middle school mathematics teacher. Also, I have tutored several students in mathematics. I think it is important to make learning fun, engaging, and relevant. I try to break down concepts into small pieces, and I value the use of hands-on activities and manipulatives. I believe in assisting students in discovery and encouraging them to take responsibility for their own learning. I believe students need to be involved, cared for, and challenged in order to be successful.

Algebra Tutor • +35 Subjects

I am Chad Bergman, a current Dartmouth student pursuing my Bachelor's in Economics with a physics minor. I have experience tutoring college economics in person on Dartmouth campus as well as online tutoring in high school calculus and physics. I've had great success on the SAT and ACT as well as my AP tests in high school, and I hope to help others succeed as well. My favorite subject to tutor is physics because I feel like learning to apply a few fundamental principles to different real world situations is extremely useful in any discipline. While tutoring I try to help students master the fundamentals so they can apply them to the material we're working on as well as future material. Outside academia, I help look after my four siblings and play more League of Legends online than is perhaps healthy.

Qays

A Beginner's Guide: Excel Tutor • +95 Subjects

Hello! My name is Qays (like "rice" but with a "k" = "Kice") Abu-Saymeh, and I recently graduated from the University of Kansas Honors Program with a Bachelor of Science in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology and Psychology. This fall I will be attending medical school in Kansas City.As an undergraduate teaching assistant for the introductory biology course in college, I focused on assisting the professor with teaching biological concepts in a one-on-one and group setting. I would assist by creating workshops that allowed me to assess student's learning and help with understanding specific materials that they struggled with. By also having office hours frequently, I became well-versed in different learning styles of students and answering their questions. Additionally, weekly meetings were held with the professor and other teaching assistants to ensure student success by discussing their responses and preparing for administering the material for the following week. Through this experience, I have developed essential training skills for working with different learning preferences and accommodating student's needs resulting in positive feedback at the end of each semester with my students.Prior to college, I have had tutoring experience with students from K-12 years in many different subjects including Reading and Comprehension, Mathematics (Algebra to Calculus 3), Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science), and History. Leading sessions in these subjects with students helped them improve their proficiency in all areas and build on their learning skills. Having this knowledge, I also provide tutoring services for the ACT.As a future medical student, I have had great review over MCAT related subjects including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Reading and Comprehension, Psychology, and Sociology.

I am entering my senior year at the University of Kansas. My course of study is BA Biochemistry and I am also working towards obtaining departmental honors in biology. I hope to attend dental school after completing undergrad. My primary goal as a tutor is to build confidence in my students by improving their study habits and their ability to tackle academic weaknesses. I plan on achieving this by going through fundamental questions of the particular discipline and then working with the student in the specific areas of the discipline that they are struggling with. From previous tutoring experience, I have learned that each student has varying learning styles. Accordingly, I strive to adapt my teaching style for each of my students so that their academic potential is maximized.I have mainly tutored high-school students and college students. In high school, as a junior and senior, I tutored many different math courses and I also tutored in biology/chemistry. In university, I have tutored in general chemistry. My favorite subjects to teach are general chemistry and biology. I have also enjoyed my organic chemistry courses in university and am open to working with students in this subject matter. As a college student, and speaking from high school experience, I can relate to students when a subject topic does not make sense and because of this, I hope to provide an enjoyable tutoring experience that emphasizes learning the "why" of each topic and how different topics connect to each other.

Coming from a large family with both parents and many siblings being teachers, one might say I was born a teacher. But one would be showing their need for tutoring in Biology! With highly educated parents, education to me was like water to a fish. My undergraduate work was in Physics and Math (BA) with graduate work in math, Theology, and educational leadership (M.Div., M.A. Ph.D.). My calling as an educator has been to promote life-long learning in areas of life that assist the learner in rising to new heights of understanding, productivity, and healthy relationships. Some seeming deviations from this calling have been becoming a pilot, playing a lot of golf, and running international schools in South America for a missionary organization. I am a relational teacher and leader, warmly personal, and a strong adherent to principle with clear personal values, I am an encourager, a good listener, and an effective communicator. I love kids(/all people) as evidenced by having 4 of my own with 10 grandchildren (so far)!

I enjoy working with students to help them reach their maximum potential. As a current college student, I have tutored students in elementary school all the way up through the age of my current peers. In preparation for college, I took the ACT multiple times and in the process learned a great deal of tips and strategies that are useful for raising scores. I believe in helping students truly understand the material, not just memorize it. I look forward to working with you and helping you reach your goals!

I am a graduate of Washburn University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with a focus on special education. After graduation I began teaching in the Gardner/ Edgerton school district. During my five years as an educator, I had the opportunity to teach a variety of grade levels including 6th, 4th, and 2nd. While I tutor a variety of subjects, I am most passionate about math and reading. There is nothing more fulfilling than helping a young person recognize their potential and giving them tools to help them succeed. I believe a solid, well-rounded education is undeniably one of the most important things in life. In my spare time I enjoy playing with my twin daughters, being outdoors, playing soccer, and just relaxing with a good book.
