I have my BS in psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where I participated in research as well as tutored and led study groups for physiology students.My approach to teaching is to help students make connections between what they already know and to understand new material. While obtaining my masters degree I was also a Hall Driector living and working on campus.My MSDI included clinical experiences (out-patient and in-patient) at diabetes center, cancer center, nursing home, hospital; food service experiences with hospital, grocery store, and college campus contracted company; and community experiences with EFNEP and SNAP-Ed programing, grocery stores, corporate wellness, and CSA.

I am recent graduate of Columbia University in New York (a dual major in Physics and English). I have been tutoring for a little over two years, with a focus on the ACT and SAT. I have experience with Catalyst tutoring as well as Varsity, which has given me experience with more methods for approaching both tests. I know both the ACT and the SAT inside and out. I can both help students quickly improve their test scores through simple test-taking tricks, but I can also help them develop their abilities and strengthen their conceptual grasp of a more difficult field. I find I get the strongest improvement in the reading and math sections. For STEM subjects specifically, my dual major allows me to communicate math ideas better than most other tutors. I also enjoy working on essays, and I often helped my friends in college with their papers. In addition to Varsity Tutors, I also work at Glenridge Elementary School. During the summers, I am the program director at the JCC Day Camps. I love the variety of working with all ages!I have been tutoring for 9 years. I started tutoring Math in high school with Mu Alpha Theta, the Math Honor Society. During college, I tutored at Evanston Township High School with the AVID program for middle-tiered students. In addition to academic subjects, I assisted with study skills, college applications, and scholarship essays. I helped several students, first in their families to attend college, receive significant scholarships. After graduation Northwestern, I lived in Israel for 6 months. I worked at a boarding school where I taught English, planned programs and farmed chickens.While I did not major in Math, I excelled in Math during high school, and have had years of experience tutoring at the high school level. Relatable and not a dull Math nerd, I have several ways of explaining concepts and remembering procedures, which help students who did not grasp the topic in class. Even for those who dislike math, we will keep working until we find a way so you feel comfortable.I also tutor ACT. As a high school student, my score increased by 6 points, so I am eager to help others do the same. I see the test as a game, and you just need to learn the rules, making it possible for everyone to improve.In my free-time, I love being active.
