My job as an educator started well before I even left for college. I have worked in many aspects of education including outdoor education, nannying, the classroom, and as a museum educator. Having worked in a variety of places, I am able to help students with their studies using creative and fun methods. I love History and Literature, and I enjoy being able to help students learn the joy of reading. My favorite subject in elementary school was Math and I enjoy talking about fractions, the metric system, and the importance of knowing multiplication tables!I am a life long learner and love to spend time in museums, libraries, and traveling. My profile picture is from a recent trip to Iceland.

As a private tutor, I especially enjoy helping students write college and graduate school applications. (One of my students was accepted to Harvard.) I also enjoy helping with resumes and preparing for job interviews. After completing my MBA at Bushnell University, I was invited to return to teach as an Associate Professor, I taught communication, writing, presentation skills, and a myriad of other business classes.I believe in a positive approach to teaching, i.e., we find your strengths and use them to help you achieve your goals. Once you discover your strengths, you can use them to improve the quality of all aspects of your life.

10th Grade Math Tutor • +39 Subjects

I am passionate about about helping students understand that math is important for understanding the world around them. As a certified math and business teacher, I have worked with students between grades 5 and 12, both in person and online, to fill gaps in understanding previous concepts as well as helping them grasp new ideas that are being introduced to them.I received my undergraduate degree in Natural Science with a concentration in Mathematics from Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. I also earned an MBA from the University of Florida. I have recently earned a Master of Arts degree in Mathematics with a focus in Secondary Education from University of Northern Colorado. As you could probably tell, my strength is helping students in all levels of Mathematics from basic arithmetic to Calculus. My favorite branches of mathematics to tutor are the middle school levels (fractions, integers, and proportional reasoning) as well as Algebra and Geometry in the high school levels. I like working with these subjects because the ideas really bring out how math is connected to even the most basic life skills, from cooking and construction, to problem-solving, logic, and general reasoning.I love talking about business concepts and how they relate to each other. I especially enjoy the connection between the creative side of Marketing and the analytical/financial aspects involved.I am a pretty laid-back, low-pressure guy who expects students to make mistakes so we can learn from them. Mistakes are expected, inspected, and respected. I believe that learning should be relevant and relate to students' lives. I believe that all students can learn mathematics, but that every student learns differently. In working with students individually, I can learn more about the student's styles of learning and tailor instruction to fit that learning style. In my spare time, I like to watch TV and movies, especially when time travel is involved. The idea of time and time travel is fascinating to me. I also like to read books that take a classic story and re-imagine them into different contexts, places, and times. I am currently reading "Cress", the third book in the Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer. "Cress" is based on the story of Rapunzel and is woven into the previous novels "Cinder" (based on Cinderella) and "Scarlet" (based on Little Red Riding Hood). In addition to reading, TV, and movies, I like to do counted cross-stitch and crochet. I finally taught myself how to knit, too.

My name is Marie. I hold a bachelors degree in chemistry and have completed a year of graduate school towards a PhD in organic chemistry. One of my favorite things about chemistry is finding new strategic ways to solve problems. While in high school I tutored middle school math and once I was in college I began tutoring in chemistry and biology. It always feels really rewarding to teach someone something or help them see it in a new light.

College Level American History Tutor • +8 Subjects

I am a Senior at the University of Colorado Denver, majoring in History and Teacher Education in Social Studies at the Secondary level (Middle and High School). I expect to complete my Bachelor's program in Spring 2016, and anticipate receiving my Colorado Teaching Certification in Spring 2017. Although I have not yet ruled out Graduate School, I currently intend to teach High School History upon completing my certification.Though most of my tutoring experience has been with Undergraduates at the collegiate level, I have on occasion worked with younger students. I tend to encounter the same difficulties with all History students, regardless of their age or grade. They tell me that History is boring, and they don't consider it relevant to their lives. My goal is to change that perception by finding parallels between the subject matter and the modern world. History is so much more than a list of names and dates to be memorized. In order to truly understand the modern world one must be aware of how it came to be. If I can connect historical events to issues and ideas that matter to the student they will be much more receptive to the material.
