I am an experienced teacher - from High School Math (Algebra I) to first grade phonics. I enjoy helping students discover they can understand a concept that had been confusing before. I coach volleyball at the eighth grade level, and have done so for more than ten years - it's a great activity to develop confidence and teamwork. I come from a large family- -12 brothers and sisters - and like to make people laugh. Even when we are doing homework! I always find out what the student knows, and what might be confusing before starting to tutor. I often find that we can get a quantum leap in performance if we inspect the little things.

I am a recent law school graduate and am currently studying for the bar before I begin my federal clerkship. I graduated from Northwetern Pritzker School of Law in May 2021 and received my B.A. in political science and journalism from the University of Mary Washington in 2015. Before law school, I spent the past three years working at a law firm and for a labor movement organization (while studying for the LSAT and applying to law school, of course)! While at UMW I led the university student newspaper and worked at our Communication Center where I tutored in public speaking, writing, interview prep and presentation prep. Throughout my time there I was promoted to Lead, where I trained other tutors and assisted in classroom curriculum. I tutor in writing, essay editing and reading comprehension. I also tutor in some law school courses, political science/government courses in American History. I am a recent graduate of Temple University in Philadelphia, PA where I earned my Bachelors Degree of Business Administration. I was an accounting major and an MIS minor and currently work in a staff accountant role while I continue to study for the CPA exams.Throughout high school and college, I tutored many students and friends in a variety of business classes. Before attending graduate school, I worked as a certified substitute teacher for K-12 general and special education in Michigan. I also volunteered as a literacy tutor with the Family Learning Institute in Ann Arbor, MI. While I am comfortable tutoring in a wide range of humanities and language arts subjects, I am most passionate about teaching English and reading comprehension. I believe students' advancements in these subjects positively impact all other academic areas. Every student can build confidence in reading and writing, and have fun doing it. I see education as a collaborative effort and I work to bring my students' personal perspectives into our lessons. Watching a student learn new things is exciting, but seeing them recognize the power of their own knowledge and experiences is even better!
