As a current college student, I believe I understand how best to communicate with and teach fellow students of all ages. Being able to relate to students is an important aspect of an effective learning environment. I believe that nothing is more important to this process than patience. I know that no student or child is exactly alike, nor do they learn the same way. I am committed to getting to know each student in order to tailor my teaching methods in a way that suits them best.

I am a current graduate student at Columbia University working towards a Master of Science in Public Health and received my undergraduate degree in Anthropology from Reed College in Portland, Oregon.After graduating from Reed, I earned my Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) and spent two years teaching English to adult and young learners in Colombia. I also taught a required course on American Studies to university students at the Pontifical Xavierian University in Bogota, Colombia. I have experience tutoring one on one as well as teaching courses of up to 40 students.As a tutor, I prioritize understanding individual student's learning styles. While I offer structure and approaches that have helped me and others I know along the way, I understand that there are multiple ways to take in the same information. A Speech-Language Pathologist is someone who specializes in evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of speech disorders, language disorders, reading disorders/dyslexia, cognitive disorders, voice disorders, and swallowing disorders. I have worked with many students in the American school system from different geographical areas for the past five years now. I currently provide therapy services including articulation, language, social-pragmatics, and reading therapy with preschool and elementary aged students. Previously, I worked at a high school and targeted a lot of written language, reading comprehension, sequencing, story retell and constructing narratives both verbally and on paper. I am currently a student teacher in Pearland. My favorite subject is Algebra. I also enjoy Calculus, Geometry, Physics, and other mathematics. I realize most people do not like math, but I believe enthusiasm is contagious. I enjoy helping others, especially when it comes to math. I like to spend time outside, read, paint, and listen to music in my spare time.

I am a senior at Roanoke college studying mathematics with a minor in biology. I tutor mathematics and arithmetic at a variety of levels. I believe that math is most easily learned if you have an instructor who is positive about the material. Especially to get through some of the tedious beginnings of arithmatic because once you've got the basics, I promise it gets exciting! Away from academics, I enjoy getting outside and being active as much as I can. I've played sports throughout my life and I am currently on the varsity track and field team, but I spend my weekends with the outdoor adventures club!

I am very passionate about helping my students. I get the most satisfaction when I see that my students have truly understood what they are trying to learn. This happens often. I am able to modify my teaching so that it truly fits the needs of my students. I have had lots of experience in tutoring all kinds of mathematics including pre algebra, algebra I,II, geometry, pre calculus, AP calculus and differential and integral calculus. I have majored in Biology and Engineering and have completed calculus courses from NMSU, UNM, University of Houston, University of Texas at Austin, and Metro State where I studied geometry and math history to obtain my Colorado Teacher's License. I am a quick study and am able to pick up on the needs and strengths of my students as well as the academic content they are trying to learn. My students and their parents have been very happy with my work and they have referred me to new clients. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Humanities and a Master's degree in Theology and NT Greek.
