I am also trained in Orton Gillingham's approach, the Wilson Reading program for dyslexic and reading deficiencies. I am trained to administer informed assessments to gather data for initial and ending growth for students. The data is helpful for planning and IEP support.Methods:The most important aspect of reading is to learn word patterns and spelling rules. All words consist of a pattern. Vowels are the glue to form a word. I use the Wilson Language System because it provides a structured curriculum. OG is not a curriculum but an approach to teaching the patterns of words. The two together complement each other and are both proven for success when followed.Personal Statement:I am dyslexic and have ADHD so I have first-hand experience. I provide compassion, patience, and understanding to each student building confidence.I developed a passion for dyslexic learners several years ago when my daughter was diagnosed. It was a long journey finding the right resources and providers but after a lot of research and training, she has shown tremendous growth. I am a wife to a soldier in the Navy, with 3 kids, and 2 grandchildren. They all make my life full and full of love. I have been assisting and teaching students since my teaching assistant days back in 6th grade. From there, I went to Youngstown State University in Northeast Ohio and obtained my teaching degree in grades 4-9 math, social studies, and reading.I have taught in the classroom (online and in person) 5 years to date with my degree and several more before I graduated, ranging from Kindergarten all the way up to 9th. Nothing can ever replace the the memories of each and every student that has walked through my door. I truly believe every student can learn, given a welcoming environment that allows them to try new things, fail at others, and explore the world around them.Currently, I am teaching 8th grade Algebra and general mathematics as well as a Life Skills Math course in a district in Ohio. I love the small town feel, and it's a new challenge everyday.I love to teach math. Something about arriving at the right answer makes me feel complete after seeing all my hard work scribbled down on a board. Social studies is another passion of mine. We wouldn't be where we are today without where we've been and what we have learned from it.
