I had great math and science teachers who really made a world of difference when it came by my appreciation for and understanding of the subjects. I also realize how frustrating it can be when we aren't getting the help we need and don't exactly understand the material presented to us. For that reason, I would love to help increase your knowledge and confidence in these subjects! I have lots of experience tutoring in AP chemistry and algebra, in particular, and I am more than willing to work on finding a style that works for your learning.

I have a Masters of Science in Finance and a Bachelors of Administration in Business Management and Accounting all from Sam Houston State University.I have taught and tutored students ranging from elementary to secondary and post secondary education. Having been a student I learned to appreciate the benefits that having a one on one tutor brings. As a result I love being able to pass my knowledge and experience on to others and providing the same personal attention that benefited me greatly. My favorite subjects to teach are English and anything that has to do with reading and reading comprehension. In addition, because of my educational background and job experience I enjoying subjects associated with accounting, finance and business including business writing.I prefer to read a book versus watch tv (P.D. James, John Grishom, Patricia Cornwell, Greg Iles). When tutoring I like to have fun. Sessions should be a good mix of seriousness to accomplish set goals as well as enjoyable to keep students interested and at ease.

I am a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and earned a Bachelor of Science in Spanish with the completion of all pre-medical course requirements. While I was an undergraduate student, I was fortunate to spend a year studying abroad in Seville, Spain, and thoroughly enjoyed immersing myself in the Spanish language and culture. After graduating from UW, I spent two years working in clinical and academic research at the UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health, and one year as an Emergency Medicine Scribe. I am currently a 4th year medical student applying and interviewing for residency. I am passionate about medicine and completely understand the difficulty students may face when preparing for the USMLE and COMLEX exams. Having been through the process myself, I am excited to share the tips and tricks that I learned with future physicians to help them follow their dreams and score well on their upcoming board exams. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, skiing, tennis, the Great British Baking Show, and spending time with family, friends, and pets!

My experience in education spans multiple formats such as counselor for summer research camps, teaching assistant for college courses, tutor for college courses, and dance instructor. These different positions have pushed me to broaden my perspective on how to communicate with students and address the topics they do not understand. While my educational background has more than prepared me to understand the basics of the science subjects that my students were studying, my goal as an instructor reaches beyond simply teaching the lesson; I also aim to spark my student's interests in the subject and make the lesson fun for them. I know from personal experience that learning any lesson is easier when one is interested and enjoys the learning experience. To that effect, I use concepts and analogies that relate to the students and grab their interests, and this relation may be from other topics or courses they have previously studied or an experience they come across on a daily basis. The latter is especially effective since that daily experience would serve to reinforce the lessons for the students and commit it to memory. These techniques, along with others, work well for tutoring since we often must cover a large amount of information in a relatively short amount of time.

I have over ten years of teaching and tutoring experience, including one year teaching ESL at a Kindergarten in Chiang Mai, Thailand, three years teaching ESL at a cram school for students in elementary, middle, and high school in Taipei, Taiwan, and two years teaching creative writing to undergraduates at the University of Notre Dame. As someone who has studied Mandarin Chinese for three years, I understand the difficulty of acquiring a new language and the importance of immersion in the language as opposed to rote memorization of vocabulary words. I also believe that presenting arguments in a clear, well-structured, organized manner will improve any essay, regardless of the subject.
