As a creative person, I've always enjoyed learning about new things through reading, traveling and experiencing things first hand. Teaching, tutoring, painting and writing are the avenues though which I best learn and express myself. I've made it a personal mission to always try new things and once I've achieved one plateau, I always seek to find the next challenge.

I received my Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies and Sociology with a focus on qualitative methodologies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I received my RWE (Real World Experience) as a project manager for a medical software company with clients in Seattle and Tacoma, WA, and later as a case manager for a mediation and arbitration firm in Washington, D.C. As a doctoral student in the Department of American Studies at The University of Texas at Austin, I teach courses through the Center for Mexican American Studies in American Studies, Mexican American Studies, and Women's and Gender Studies. My courses are writing intensive and promote critical thinking, reading, and analytical skills. I stress to my students the importance of developing strong written and oral communication skills, as well as applicable skill sets that will translate in the professional world. I began my tutoring career in high school as a peer-to-peer volunteer tutor. I tutored first generation students and students from historically marginalized communities with the federal TRIO program as an undergraduate at UW. In D.C. I tutored second language learners looking to improve their English skills. Most recently, I worked with student athletes through the athletics department at UT. I tutor a variety of subjects in the humanities and social sciences, but my favorite sessions include those in which I help students with their writing assignments, as I truly enjoy seeing the tangible progress they make during our time together. I consider one of my specialties as an educator to be my ability to meet students where they're at in their learning process. I believe very strongly in the importance of education and equal access for all. I share this enthusiasm for learning with my students through positive energy, reinforcement, and encouragement. While I believe learning should be fun, my teaching style is firm, but fair. I have high expectations of my students and will do everything in my power to help them realize their full potential in achieving their educational goals. When I have downtime, I enjoy growing green things in my garden. I played competitive golf for a decade through college, so a friendly round is always a welcome relaxation. I also enjoy the beach, tennis, rock climbing, and discovering new fiction writers.

My heart belongs to writing and the humanities. I have been fascinated by history and story telling since I was a kid. When I attended UT Austin, I quickly decided to study political science and philosophy. After my first year, I was encouraged to tutor writing at the University Writing Center. I spent two and a half years tutoring my peers on their research papers, their personal statements and their business proposals. I have edited essays from each and every subject you can find on a college campus. I am confident focusing on any aspect of a paper. This includes nitty gritty elements of writing style (syntax, grammar, sentence styling) as well as big picture story ideas (organization, main idea, and flow). I believe in connecting with students to understand how they learn best. I feel deep gratification from understanding someone's perspective and using that to make their writing process stronger. In addition to tutoring writing, I have experience in tutoring English as a Second Language as well as English Literature. In general, teaching will always mean a lot to me and I hope to do it for most of my life.Outside of tutoring, I am very passionate about dance. I use any spare time I have on physical conditioning and movement. In addition, this year I have become interested in software engineering. As I master coding in several languages, I am keenly aware of how I can include this skillset in my tutoring down the line. I look forward to connecting with students on several subjects and helping them in any way I can. I hope that my love for learning remains infectious and keeps my students motivated and engaged.

I am currently a student at the University of Texas at Austin studying Chemical Engineering on a Pre-Medicine track while minoring in Business in the Cockrell School of Engineering. For the past 8 years, I have tutored students in all levels of math ranging from toddlers to high school students studying AP Calculus. I have worked for other tutoring agencies and also tutored through my local school district itself as well. My favorite subject since I was little has always been math! Aside from math, I also teach other subjects such as english and Spanish and others. I have worked with all kinds of students, including those with special needs or no prior knowledge in the subject. In my free time I enjoy reading, running, dancing, and spending time with my friends and family.

I graduated Summa from University of St Thomas with a BA in English, and just wrapped up a MS in Data Science from Northwestern.I'm a huge Red Sox fan and love watching detective shows when I have free time.

I currently work as a software engineer. I am passionate about education and helping people learn.
