I am a graduate of the University of Texas, Austin. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and Mathematics. Since graduating, I have spent 30 years in Texas Public School classrooms teaching grades one through sixth and eighth grade mathematics. Since retiring from classroom teaching, I have been a substitute teacher in a local district teaching children in Pre-K through middle school. I have also tutored privately for the same age groups. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about mathematics, reading, and writing in the elementary school levels. Prepping students for the state testing has always been important and my students have shown great proficiency with the tests after prep. Over the years, I have found that instilling a love of learning fosters great success in mastery of their objectives. I believe that all children can obtain mastery when given learning experiences that fit their learning mode. Many learning experiences are offered to cover their material including hands-on activities, technology when available, as well as written lessons. When not working with children, I enjoy reading, sewing, walking, and creating crafts.

I love helping students, I became a teacher to be able to reach students of all capabilities. I believe that each student can learn and grow their abilities if they are given an opportunity. I come from a background in Health Care Administration, but changed my career path to become a teacher recently to be able to be a support for students. I currently teach 4th grade - I am comfortable teaching all core content areas, Math, Science, Social Studies, Reading and Writing. My belief is that each student learns differently, it is important to determine the specific needs of each child in order to best support their academic needs.

Not only did I excel in these subjects, I really enjoyed learning about them as well! From middle school all the way through college, I would help siblings, colleagues, and classmates with their math homework, and I wasn't just doing the homework for them - I would spend time making sure that they actually understood the material. That is the most rewarding part for me - seeing that "aha" moment whenever someone I'm helping finally understands a concept he or she has been struggling with. I aced all of my math classes throughout high school and college, was 2 years ahead of my grade, and often took 2 (or more) math classes in a single year. Of course, you may begin to wonder if that means that I won't be able to relate to students who struggle with math, but I have not found that to be the case. I have always loved helping people understand math, and I have a unique ability of being able to put myself into other people's shoes and seeing things from their point of view. All throughout college, as I was taking advanced statistics classes, I would always receive high praise from my classmates, thanking me for my ability to explain difficult concepts to them and help them understand problems that just weren't clicking for them.Aside from tutoring, my passions are yoga, partner dancing, spending time outdoors, nutrition and health, and spending time with close family and friends. Shortly after graduation, I moved to Houston to attend graduate school at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. I obtained my Ph.D. degree in 2008 and have been doing research at MD Anderson Cancer Center since that time. I have always been interested in helping students master science and math. I tutored chemistry as an undergraduate and more recently have worked with high school students in a variety of math and science subjects. I always strive to set goals with the student and plan a path to meet those goals. Additionally, I always encourage students, especially young children, to be inquisitive and develop an interest in science. There is nothing more rewarding than watching a student have an "ah-ha" moment when the material makes sense to them. In my spare time, I enjoy volunteering with a no-kill animal rescue in Houston and spending time with my family.

I was born and raised in France. When I was 13, my parents, siblings and I moved to the U.S.(Austin, TX). It was quite a culture shock! It is 20+ years later now, and I am so glad we moved! I visit my extended family in France as often as I can, but I am so happy to call Austin home. I still speak French with my immediate family (it is my first language), and try to teach it to my children. I love sharing the language and culture with others. I have experience and am comfortable working with all ages. I try to make sessions as laid-back, fun and engaging as possible.When I am not busy being a mom to my two girls, I enjoy reading, traveling, running and recently started participating in triathlons.I look forward to hearing from you!

I feel that knowing the reason why we are doing something is infinitely more important than the way we are doing it. There are 12 ways to tackle every problem and the one that first comes to mind isn't always the easiest. The road to the finish isn't always a straight line and we should always be looking for those little twists and turns that will get us there faster. I try to create a very low stress environment and hope that every single person I tutor goes on to do greater things than I can.
