I love one-on-one tutoring. I can help you technically with several subject areas. My expertise is in writing, public speaking, marketing and communications, French, philosophy, history, religion, education, remedial reading and curriculum and instruction courses. I have 10 years experience teaching college level English composition, grammar and creative writing for 4 colleges in Southern California where I was nominated for Teacher of the Year at FIDM. I got my Bachelor's degree in Philosophy and my Master's in Education, Curriculum and Instruction with a Specialization in Remedial Reading. I was credentialed in 3 states, most recently in Colorado in 2017. I have also had a successful career in business serving as Director of Marketing for 8 acute care hospitals in California. I currently spend my time editing books for authors and tutoring students. Additionally, I worked in university libraries throughout my college years and therefore know how to help you find an accurately notate sources, APA and Chicago style.

I have a Master degree in Business Administration from Texas Southern University. I also have more than five years of experience in Tutoring Moths and French respectively from overseas, France, Senegal and in the United States at Houston Independent School District. I love tutoring French, my general education was in French (Elementary, Middle school in France}. My tutoring experience in Moths was amazing, my students made tremendous results after their first month. My teaching philosophy essentially consist of teaching and re-teaching. So consistency is one of my strategy used, combined with regular quizzes to evaluate the student's knowledge. I love to go to the movies on my free time.

ACT English Tutor • +25 Subjects

Tutoring has been a passion of mine for many years. I began tutoring in high school, where I tutored my peers in algebra, geometry, and Spanish and met weekly with a third grade girl to help her with her math and reading homework. I loved everything about it; it was so rewarding to get to know each student and watch them grow more confident in their abilities to tackle their schoolwork and problem-solve on their own. It was fascinating to witness the ways different people think, and I loved the challenge of adjusting my tutoring style accordingly. This passion led me to pursue a career in making education more effective for all students. To pursue this goal, I majored in cognitive science and minored in child development and computer science at Tufts University. My major taught me about how the brain works, and how it learns most effectively. With this background, I bring scientifically tested learning, memorization, and studying techniques to my tutoring sessions. I also minored in child development to better understand how brains learn differently across the lifespan; as a result, I understand ways to tailor my tutoring practice to the age of the student I'm working with. For example, the brain becomes much better at thinking abstractly over time as it becomes able to hold more pieces of information in mind at once. Thus, when tutoring younger children, it's helpful to rely much more on pictures and other visuals so the young learner doesn't have to maintain all the information from the discussion in their heads. My minor in computer science stemmed from my desire to pursue a career in educational technology. Technology can make learning more interactive and engaging for students no matter the subject, and I am interested in designing software that makes the learning process fun. Next September, I will begin working toward my Masters in Computer Science at Northeastern University to work toward this goal. After my tutoring experiences in high school, I had numerous experiences tutoring learners of all ages, from preschoolers to adults. I spent my first year of college tutoring preschoolers in reading comprehension and alphabet knowledge; I served as the curriculum writer and head teacher of a computer programming camp for children aged 4-7, using the ScratchJr programming language; I was a writing tutor for three years as I worked with other Tufts students on their term papers; I taught introductory Spanish classes to adult men who were immigrating from Africa to Spain; And lastly, I was a T.A. for a statistics course in my senior year of school, where I helped college students learn statistical concepts as well as the programming language R. All of these experiences are detailed in-depth on my resume.Of these experiences, I would have to say that my work tutoring writing and computer science have been my favorite. Both subjects offer a lot of room for students to put their own, personalized touch on their work, which lends itself well to my personal tutoring style. I ask students a lot of questions during tutoring sessions rather than simply telling them the answers, as this helps guide students to develop thought processes they can use to problem-solve on their own in the future. In addition, it helps the student talk through the material and reveals where they may have some misunderstandings. There are many right ways to write a program or a paper, so when I tutor subjects like writing and computer science, I get to make these questions more open-ended and help students let their creativity flow. This is harder in subjects like math, where there is only one right answer, but I still enjoy asking students questions as we puzzle through challenging questions and plan out approaches to word problems together. No matter the subject, I view myself as a partner to the student as they make their way toward mastery of the material.I look forward to working with you!

I earned my Bachelor's degree in English, double major Creative Writing and Literature, from Florida State University. At the same time, I completed my Journalism studies at Florida A& M University. I have specified certification in Grammar and Punctuation.I've worked the instructor role for many years. I've tutored students from early childhood to adult education. My tenure as a substitute teacher has placed me amongst students in all grade levels. Such experience serves as great advantage on my part; I've adopted various curriculum and teaching methods, so I have an assortment of material to offer my students. However, my attributes exceed beyond my degrees. Above everything else, I am a Writer. I write for work. I write for fun. I have devoted years of schooling, and continuous studying, to mastering the written word and all the mechanics involved.I know grammar. I know punctuation. I know syntax and structure. I also know that these are not strong points for everyone. And that's why I'm here... to help you!As much as I enjoy what I do, I get as much satisfaction in bringing someone else along for the ride. Whether you're a student needing help for an exam, or looking for overall subject improvement, I'm the one you want on your team.My BEST attribute as a tutor is that I know both sides of the coin:As an instructor, I know everyone doesn't learn the same. My PRIORITY is to learn your most effective learning style... and run with that! I think out the box and welcome any suggestions; whatever it takes, I'm all in.As a studentcurrently pursuing a Master's degree in Curriculum and InstructionI can relate to the frustration of not "grasping" a concept right away. Or even after several attempts. Trust me, I get it. With my students, we work thorough everything as a team! No stress. No intimidation. No worries. But, we'll wait for our first session so you can see for yourself. See you soon!

I am from New Haven, CT and graduated from Hamden Hall Country Day School last year. I am now a freshman at Emory University where I am double majoring in Psychology and Economics. If you're anything like me, you might also be a terrible test taker. I get so nervous when I sit down for standardized tests that I can barely think of the answer. Tests are not my strong suit, but I believe that works to my advantage as a tutor. When I began studying for the ACT and taking practice tests, I was having difficulty improving my original score. I spent months working with a tutor and skipped countless baseball practices just to go home and aimlessly review old material. I consistently scored in the low 30s, so when the real test came around, I was pretty confident. Let's just say it didn't go as planned. I generally scored high on the English and Math, but always had trouble with the Reading and Science sections. The questions I got wrong in those sections were quite similar, yet I would get the same type of questions wrong on each subsequent test. Once I figured out my own strategies to approaching specific questions and improving my time management skills, I grew comfortable sitting in those desks for three hours. I finally began hitting that 99th percentile mark. The most invaluable part I believe to the college application is the essay portion. I can teach you guys some of the ways I approach the Supplements and Personal Statement to creatively show your voice. I think about it as a party: if you're at a party with one hundred people and someone can identify you based on something you wrote in your essay, then it is most likely a strong essay. One of Emory's essay prompts asked students to write about their favorite fiction or nonfiction work, and I submitted a piece about Two, and a Half Men that I'd never thought would be included in my college application. I later met the admissions officer who read my application and she recognized my name because of that essay.I tutored seven students for the ACT during the summer before my freshman year. I can also help with Math, Econ, English, and editing papers. Feel free to reach out!

I have experience helping with other students in my class and high school students in math (Calculus I and Algebra), general chemistry (high school, AP, and College), and Spanish (Spanish I-IV). I am a very motivated and energetic individual with a large amount of background experience in the areas of chemistry, genetics, biochemistry, and basic mathematics. In Fall of 2021, I will be starting my journey of earning my PhD in one of several areas. I hope to one day contribute to medicinal research after having worked in medical related chemistry and cancer biology labs during my undergraduate career. For any student of mine, I try to push them to first understand what is being asked of them and what kind of background they need to answer a question. If you don't have the pieces, then you can't build the puzzle. So during my sessions, I will discuss what my students understand and in what direction we will be heading when dealing with a practice problem. Once that has been identified, we will iron out strategies and techniques we can use when seeing the types of problems again in the future.
