AP French Language and Culture Tutor • +20 Subjects
I am a graduate of the Ohio State University, where I completed a BA summa cum laude in linguistics and Romance studies with specializations in French, Spanish, and Italian. I then completed a JD at Cornell University, where I used my language skills to focus on international and comparative law, as well as developing particular skills in criminal law and general trial advocacy. In addition, I spent a year in France at the Universit Paris 1 Panthon-Sorbonne, where I obtained an LLM (master of laws) in French, European, and international law. Outside of academia, I have worked as a document translator and an in-court interpreter in both French and Spanish and have worked directly with French- and Spanish-speaking clients in legal and financial settings. As an undergraduate student, I was French-language liaison to the Modern Languages and Cultures Undergraduate Council, in which position I oversaw tutoring sessions, organized conversation and culture hours, and represented the interests of Francophone students and French learners at Council meetings. In addition, I co-directed an outreach program to local elementary schools, teaching both French and Spanish to children in grades K-4. On the legal side, I have worked in immigration, contract, family, and criminal law, and have been a teaching assistant for legal courses and served as a graduate-student mentor for pre-law students. As a tutor, my approach is simple: people learn better when they're interested! I work to tailor my lessons to your goals and interests so that your subject becomes an interest rather than a chore!

I am a recent college graduate looking for opportunities to tutor and get involved with education before I attend medical school this fall. I have a bachelor's of science from the University of Akron and my academic areas of focus where I am best prepared to teach are animal and cell physiology, immunology, biochemistry, and preparing for the MCAT. I took the MCAT this past January and am hoping to share some of the techniques that worked for me while the test is still fresh in my mind. For the ACT I would feel comfortable teaching the reading and science sections since those are my strong points.I have always enjoyed working with college students and most of my tutoring experience has been in my science classes during college. Generally when tutoring I believe its most important to let the tutee fully explain what they don't understand and try working it out on their own, rather than me first launching into general strategies that might not work for them.Outside of the nitty gritty sciences I'm a big fan of history and literature, and would always be up for discussing those subjects with a student. When I'm not studying some of my main pastimes are playing piano and the electric guitar, playing poker, and hiking.

I am currently a Biology Pre-Med student at Kent State University and I am getting my minor in ASL. I work as a tutor both here and for my college and am working towards getting my CRLA Level 1 certification. I enjoy teaching and I hope to be able to help as many people as possible; my goal for the future is to get to teach English and other subjects abroad before I get my master's! I am proficient in tutoring students in math, reading, writing and science for elementary and middle school, as well as chemistry and biology; though my favorite class to tutor has to be biology or algebra. I firmly believe in teaching students not only the subjects they need help with but also how to learn similar things in the future. After all, the real goal of tutoring is to get to a point where it isn't needed anymore! In my free time, I am an avid reader and baker, and I am currently teaching myself how to figure skate.

I have had over seven years experience working as a tutor. I have mentored students from Kindergarten to 10th graders, as well. I love helping students unlock their full potential in order to help them grow as leaders. I have worked with high school students through Americorps, as well as elementary students at a charter school. In addition, I was a program director for the Boys and Girls Club. It is important to communicate with students to help them figure out what their strengths are and in that process, find out how to relate school to things they enjoy. This will allow the students to broaden their skill set.

My experience in teaching/tutoring comes from my time spent in Graduate School at Ohio State University when I was a Graduate Teaching Assistant. I had to conduct recitation and laboratory for multiple sections of students (between 20-30 at a time). It was one of the best parts of my week. I really enjoyed working with the students and trying to clarify any problems they had with the material. Yes, it would get to be quite frustrating at times because you have to repeat a law or concept 5 times in 5 different ways, or students just weren't paying attention. But to see a student finally achieve clarity and sense the relief of pressure in them made it well worth it. I enjoy making connections with my students. I feel it makes it much easier to convince them of the importance of a given topic. As a younger individual myself, I find it fairly easy to make a connection with any student, or to at least make them comfortable. My style is laid back, and many of my students have been appreciative of that.
