Certified Tutor

A graduate of New York University, I'm a teacher and tutor with over ten years of experience working with students from elementary school through college.

In college, I worked for a work-study program called America Reads, which placed me in a New York City Elementary/Middle School. There I worked with students on reading, writing and math assignments, and was hired by other parents to tutor students outside of the classroom as well. I went to work for Laguardia Community College after school, in their Office For Students with Disabilities, where I conducted one-on -one sessions in Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, English Literature, and Essay Writing. I continued at Laguardia afterwards, becoming a classroom teacher in the Adult Basic Education program. There I prepared students in all high school subjects for the GED exam, so that they could successfully matriculate to the City University of New York.

I aim to improve my students' skills by making them think critically; I don't want to give a student the "answer," I want to provide him or her the strategies for finding it out on their own, so that they take what we do together in our session and apply it to their learning the majority of the time when we are not together.

My experience has taught me that no two learners are exactly alike, and as such, I try to provide a unique tutoring experience to each student, rather than a "one size fits all approach."

Outside of teaching, I enjoy running, illustrating, reading, and watching EPL soccer.
