I graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, and completed some graduate coursework at Loyola Marymount University in order to receive my teaching credential in Biological Sciences. I have experience both as a tutor, working with high school students in AP Chemistry, and a classroom teacher, working with middle school students in Life & Physical Sciences. I have a broad range of subjects that I am comfortable tutoring in, ranging from English and essay editing to Algebra and middle school math. But I am most passionate (and get most geeked out about) teaching science, especially topics in Biology and Life Science, because I love learning about how our living world works! My teaching philosophy revolves around students harnessing their strengths to become independent learners, and my job is to facilitate making those connections. Outside of education, I love spending time outdoors and doing yoga (a combination of both would be ideal!).

Simultaneously, I am applying for medical school right now, and hopefully, I will be enrolled in a medical school by August of 2016.I started tutoring in high school. Math always came natural to me, but I also understood the struggles of understanding math. Along with math, Physics and Biology have always been my forte. I think physics helps us understand how the universe functions in our day to day lives. Something as simple as pushing the door, driving a car at a certain speed, or playing with yo-yo could be explained using physics. I also love biology. Once you understand the gist of biological processes, which occur daily, you can't help but to marvel at its precision.My teaching philosophy is practice makes near-perfect. I believe that with practice and repetition with the right strategies, anybody can master the subjects I will be teaching. Some may need more practice than others. And everybody has their own strengths and weakness, but that should not define individual's potential.Besides academics, music is my stress-reliever. I thoroughly enjoy playing guitar and learning new instruments. These days, I have been practicing harmonica. My favorite artists/bands include John Mayer, Jason Mraz, and Maroon5. Also, I recently started to get into cooking. I first started cooking because I enjoyed watching cooking shows. I tried few recipes, and I wanted to get better at it. Moreover, cooking food for other people gives me joy.

As a trained poet and writer, I come equipped with creativity and attention to detail. I am dedicated to finding the best learning path for each of my students, and I find joy in collaborating with learners on how they best learn. My connection to math is anchored in this creative spirit--helping students see these patterns is the first step to feeling empowered as budding mathematicians.I am committed to personalizing learning for each of my students. I use diagnostic assessments to help identify areas of need and use one-on-one targeted instruction to focus on filling in these gaps.For young writers, I believe finding confidence in their natural voice gives them the courage to take risks and this is where growth occurs.

Since high school, I've been exposed to different aspects of education from mentoring peer immigrants to studying education policy. Studying cognitive science in college has solidified my interest in and taught me various effective teaching methods. Ive learned that there are different types of intelligence as well as different types of learning. In order to be an effective educator, it is important to establish a relationship with the pupil to utilize the pupils learning style.Moments from being a summer school teacher for 4th-6th graders and a resident assistant for 2 years, fuel my passion for teaching. The joy on the students faces when they achieve a goal or the gratefulness they express for my help stay with me to this day. By working with Varsity Tutors I hope to apply what Ive learned as well as gain more field experience.I recently came to DC from California to do an internship with the Department of State. I am passionate about Computer Science and the related fields, and love to spread my knowledge to others. I am currently attending San Jose State University to achieve my degree in Software Engineering with a focus on graphics programming and Machine Learning/AI. What I believe makes me such a great tutor in Computer Science areas is that I taught myself programming six years ago, so I understand all the struggles that someone who is trying to learn programming are going through. In my free time I'm often playing (or creating) video games, or researching the latest technology to see if I can work it into my life and experiment with it.

Very patient when I tutor as I enjoy tutoring and find my joy when someone says "I got it".People always complain about Math because schools don't teach them how to connect it and apply it to their real life situations. There is so much fun and beauty behind Math only when it's taught in a right way!Recently, I achieved a new record for Math tutors at Santa Monica college by tutoring 1031 students within a year.

I am an SDSU alumna and I am passionate about learning and teaching languages. I am a Native Spanish speaker and I am fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese. I have acquired my language skills by living, studying, and working in South America, China, and the U.S.I lived in China for a year and a half and I taught English and Spanish in a kindergarten class, a middle school, and privately. Now that I am back in the U.S, I have had the opportunity to continue to teach Spanish as well as Mandarin.I have over three years of tutoring experience (Kindergarten, Middle School, High School and adults). I am very patient and can easily adapt my teaching methods to provide my students with a fun and friendly atmosphere to meet their specific goals.

I have been a teacher for 10 years, and I currently teach at a wonderful project-based high school in Pomona, CA where I integrate art and music into the variety of courses I teach.
