I developed a love for history at an early age. I really enjoyed looking back at the past, and the exercise of thinking out why events fell into place the way they did. I felt that in order to understand history, one had to have a "proximate knowledge of many things," as the full picture of the past only unfolds with complex understanding and recognition of so many different aspects of life. Throughout my academic career, I have narrowed that interest to focus on Roman military history, an interest which I hope to pursue in the my future education. However, through my college education I studied a large variety of topics in the field of history, from sub-Saharan Africa throughout the colonial era and Cold War to American Indian culture throughout the America's in the age before Columbus. It has been my goal since high school to work as an educator, primarily to support my passion for history. I went to the University of Florida, obtaining a bachelor's degree in classical studies and history as well as a minor in education in pursuance of these goals, and have not stopped since. I have taught in a variety of environments; early in college I worked as a private swim instructor, and later in the same capacity for the University of North Florida. I have been a substitute teacher in Jacksonville, taking over as a permanent substitute for a middle school math class. I have also pursued tutoring on my own as well, primarily for Latin.Through Varsity Tutors, I am hoping to put forth my knowledge and academic expertise in the variety of areas I am comfortable to do so, but with particular focus on one area that remains a crucial point upon which our education system rest: standardized testing. I am a recent veteran of the rather arduous journey most students take through myriad tests, upon which their success and failure is determined. I have intimate experience and knowledge with the AP, IB, SAT, and GRE tests, and have spent time tutoring in the area of the SAT, as well as staying abreast of changes in testing protocol and procedure for those tests which I listed above, prior to my time here.At any rate, I look forward to working with students to achieve their academic goals, and to help drive new generations of success.

A passion for learning has always defined me, and I believe that curiosity and confidence are the keys to understanding any subject. Perhaps this curiosity is also why I particularly enjoy scientific disciplines like Biology and Physics, and why studying literature or history always leaves me inspired.I graduated with a BFA in Dance and a Minor in Web Programming and Applications from New York University Tisch School of the Arts. I have worked as an after school tutor with middle-school and high-school students. I also teach modern dance classes for adults and regularly work as a light-board operator for live shows in the Atlanta area.

I'm a software engineer with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Brown University and over 4 years experience working at Google. I am passionate about learning and problem solving. More than that though, I enjoy helping others grow as learners, reach their goals, and experience how rewarding it can be to master new material. In college, I TAed two computer science courses: an introductory functional programming class and an algorithms class. During my time at Google, I mentored newer team members and helped them grow in their software development skills. I am excited to tutor students in the areas of Computer Science, Math and Standardized Testing.Mastering new material can be challenging. I hope to find ways to make learning fun and to empower students to feel confident in their abilities!

I graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and am about to begin a PhD program in Clinical Psychology. During my PhD studies, I will focus on researching forensic psychological disorders and will also teach as an adjunct faculty member. I currently work at Harvard Medical School where I research psychiatric disorders, but have spent the majority of my career teaching psychology, research methods, statistics and math at all levels. My last teaching experience was at the college level, where I spent a semester teaching a bilingual Kindergarten class the English and Spanish alphabets.I use many types of tools to teach, and am able to adapt my teaching style based on the student's learning preferences. I believe in the importance of integrating technology into teaching and learning, and am familiar with many different online learning platforms. I am a kind and generous tutor, but hold my students to standards that meet their learning potential. I have a passion for teaching, but also enjoy cooking, reading, going to music concerts and playing soccer.

I am a senior at Columbia University in the City of New York, studying a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a focus in Vision and Graphics, and a minor in Psychology.I have been a private tutor for 4 years, primarily helping students excel in Mathematics. I also have immense experience with Standardized Tests, as I have done well in them myself and have helped students significantly improve their scores for the ACT and SAT.In my lessons, I find it most productive to identify a student's fundamental misunderstanding in a topic or concept, and continually practice to master full knowledge of the concept on new and different practice problems. I look forward to working with you!

Hi! I'm a rising junior at Swarthmore College, where I study math and philosophy (and a little bit of computer science for fun). I scored a 2380 on my SAT, and enjoy teaching students the skills necessary to excel at their own SATs and other standardized tests. I also have experience helping students academically at the middle school and high school levels, primarily with math and English classes. As a tutor, I strive to make concepts intuitive and easily understandable. My goal is to equip my pupils with the tools they need to tackle any academic or intellectual challenge. Every student learns differently, so my teaching style is versatile, but my primary focus is always on finding ways to help my students grasp difficult ideas. When I'm not tutoring or studying for class, I enjoy playing squash, chess and pickup basketball. I'm also a fan of crossword puzzles.

Hi there! My name is Evan and I'm a rising senior at Duke University. At Duke, I designed my own major called "Documenting Justice: The Role of Photographic Narratives in Activism." I'm passionate about documentary photography and social movements, and my degree program gives me the wonderful opportunity to study both! Although my course of studies is pretty social sciences/humanities based, I absolutely LOVE math! I was a huge math geek in high school and I love any opportunity I get to spread that enthusiasm for math to other students.Outside of my academic interests, I love playing music and writing new songs for my guitar, ukulele, and harmonica. I'm also a Netflix aficionado and may or may not have binge-watched all nine seasons of The Office multiple times.I'm passionate about ensuring that all students reach their full potential. I'd love to work with you and help you become the best in whatever subject you're looking to improve!
