I am a recent graduate of Emory University, where I received my BA in Psychology and Linguistics, while also majoring in Chinese. I am currently working towards my MA in Applied Linguistics at Georgia State University. I primarily tutor reading comprehension and writing because I have a passion for both of these skills. My goal is to have every student love writing and reading as much as I do. I have experience with working with students all over the world, from China to Saudi Arabia to the United States. I have been an elementary school teacher for over five years. Before relocating to Georgia I was in Vietnam for two years and Colorado for two years.With my Masters in Education and a minor in Athletic Coaching I have gathered many tools and strategies for teaching children with a variety of learning styles. In addition to professional experience, I draw upon my personal experience of using a tutor to learn to improve reading and writing skills. These experiences have given me resources and tools for helping children who struggle to grow and succeed!

I was a first generation college student who was a self-taught scholar and academic. I worked as an academic success coach, paraprofessional educator, and early childhood educator. My experience teaching and being an educational practitioner is varied and unique. im excited to continue my work via varsity tutors.My teaching and tutoring style is deeply dependent upon intentional relationship building so that my pedagogy is unique to whomever i am tutoring/teaching. I am interested in helping students prepare for the LSAT exam. As background, I am a practicing attorney in Atlanta, Georgia. I graduated from Northwestern University, with a degree in English Literature and Political Science, in 2009. I later graduated from Notre Dame Law School, magna cum laude and in the top ten percent of my class, in 2012. With regard to testing, I have previously scored a 1470 on the SAT (720 math, 750 verbal) and a 167 on the LSAT.I have long been interested and engaged in teaching and mentoring. My experience tutoring goes back all the way to high school, when I tutored several fellow students in a wide variety of subjects. Later, as senior editor of the Notre Dame Law Review, I mentored a team of second-year members, reviewing and giving feedback on both their legal writing and editing. Additionally, I participated in the Notre Dame Law School's Street Law program, in which I taught a semester-long course on constitutional law and civil rights and liberties to upper-level high school students. Training and mentoring the next generation of healthcare workers is what I am most passionate about.I have spent the last 10 years directly in the classroom teaching medical assisting, medical terminology, clinical skills, and certification preparation CCMA (NHA) with a 100% pass rate for many of my previous cohorts. My education and career path began as a medical assistant (MA), progressed to a licensed vocational nurse (LVN) then registered nurse (RN),and finally to my current role as a Career Technical Education (CTE) Instructor.With my nursing training from LAC-USC Medical Center, and my teaching experience with LAUSD-DACE (one of the largest school districts of adult and career education in the nation), I am excited to offer learners a unique perspective of medical assistant certification exam preparation. My plan follows a process of proven success with results that exceed the national average pass rate. My expertise includes guided utilization of the NHA online study materials, practice exams, and the test plans.My philosophy is simple: Teach and mentor the student to be the empathetic, passionate, competent healthcare worker that I would hope for myself or my loved one. After teaching for fifteen years from grade six to college level students there is one truth I have learned. Learning can only occur if the student has a point of reference. As teachers we have the responsibility to evaluate our student's level of knowledge and to increase their level of understanding, comprehension, analysis, and diagnosis of the subject we teach.Furthermore, I believe that a teacher is morally obligated to enter the classroom with only the highest of expectations for each and every one of her students. Thus, the teacher maximizes the positive benefits that naturally come along with any self-fulfilling prophecy.
