I am a recent graduate of Swarthmore College where I received my B.A. in physics. I had minors in mathematics and philosophy, and chose to pursue the honors program at Swarthmore, graduating with High Honors. I have experience tutoring students in high school, community college, and students attending Swarthmore. I most enjoy tutoring math and physics, since these are the subjects I love studying most on my own time. Explaining abstract ideas as a TA, as a volunteer in local schools, and as a frequent contributor to the student science magazine were some of my most rewarding experiences in college. Outside of academia, I love the outdoors, especially camping and back backing. After graduating from Swarthmore I worked as a caretaker on the Appalachian Trail for four months, and am now settling down to tutor full-time until hiking season comes back into full swing. Next fall I hope to start my PhD in physics, with the ambition of one day becoming a professor at a university. Coming from an academic career track, I am very familiar with the frustrations of standardized testing, and am well-prepared to help others navigate the test preparation process.

I have been a nurse for the past 9 years and have my ADN and BSN. I am currently enrolled in my masters in holistic nursing program to further expand my knowledge and expertise. I've worked bedside my entire nursing career and am taking a much needed break to help other nurses obtain their licenses through tutoring as well as working as an endoscopy nurse per diem. As a nursing tutor, I will incorporate features such as clinical assessments, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation, and evaluation from past experiences to help my students find success and gratification as well empowering learners to develop their own strengths, beliefs, and personal attributes to become a well rounded professional nurse. I love to teach and come up with new strategies and materials to help students learn the best they possibly can. I understand that it's not a one size fits all for each student.. and that's perfectly okay. I work with each of my students to find out how I can best help them excel and succeed. With a little patience and perseverance, anything is possible. I devise a highly personalized study plan for each of my students so they can stay on track with their studies while navigating their busy lives and am available anytime from 8am-8pm EST via text or email for questions or concerns.

I am a sophomore at Wentworth Institute of Technology pursuing a Bachelor's of Science in Civil Engineering. I am a very logical and theoretical person in the sense that I feel the need to know the reason behind why things work as they do. Which is why I have chosen a career in the STEM field and am more than willing to share my passion and knowledge with others. As I progressed through math levels, more often, my classmates would ask what math was useful for outside of school. At the time, I did not know how to respond, but I knew the question came from the frustration caused by trying to comprehend the material. What I now have to say is that solving challenging math problems results in more than an "irrelevant" solution. In the process of finding the solution to an equation, you develop problem-solving skills, endurance and confidence; all important qualities for a successful life. Do the work to become a better person, that is what math is useful for. Really, that is what everything is useful for. You have to be willing to explore new things. You never know what you can get out of it. A well-rounded person is of high value out in the real world.I have been raised by Dominican parents who have placed great importance on their language and culture. So much so that even though I was born here, my education from pre-school to first grade is from their homeland. Spanish was the first language I learned to read and write in. Since then have continued to use these skills in communicating with my family and friends. In high school, I took 3 years of Spanish at a native leave where we practiced our communication skills while learning about Hispanic history. If nothing else, I hope to evoke a thirst for knowledge and an appreciation for community, in those who I have the opportunity to work with.

Currently I am a graduate student pursuing a PhD in Public Policy from the University of Massachusetts Boston. This semester, I have the opportunity to teach a course called "Concepts of Community", which explores how we conceive and understand the communities which we are all a part of. This is is not the first time that I will be teaching college students, prior to moving to Boston, I was an adjunct professor at Temple University in the Geography and Urban Studies Department. Temple University is also where I earned my MA in Geography and Urban Studies. Along with college students, I have worked with high school students. Upon graduating college, I worked as a substitute teacher, providing students with assistance whatever subject they have me working on for that day. Furthermore, there have been cases where I was in charge for classes where the teacher was absent for an extended period of time. Along with substitute teaching, I had the opportunity to work with young people through Temple University's Information, Technology, and Society Research Group's (ITSRG) BITS program. BITS (Building Information and Technology Skills) enabled me to teach young students from Philadelphia about urban planning, sustainability, and geographic information systems (GIS).While my focus is on social sciences, I do have experience helping students understand math and other quantitative I disciplines. My job as a tutor is to help the student understand not only what they need to learn, but why they need to learn it. I want help students become motivated in their academic careers.

All my life I've had a knack for all math subjects. I graduated from Northeastern University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Science in Engineering Management (both summa cum laude). I have had over three years of professional private tutoring experience with students ranging from elementary to college level in a multitude of math and science based topics. My favorite subject to tutor is math and I am most interested and familiar with tutoring Algebra, Trigonometry, and any level of Calculus. Outside of academics, I have a strong passion for music. I learned piano at the age of four and taught myself guitar just before going to college.Professionally speaking, aside from tutoring, I have worked at Bose as an electrical engineer for the past five years designing audio amplifiers and enjoy tinkering with electronics in my spare time.Ultimately my objective is to strive to help students reach their fullest potential.

I have considered myself to be an educator for five years. I was a Kindergarten Literacy Aid, a tutor, a student teacher intern, a substitute teacher, and a paraprofessional before starting my job as an Elementary Spanish teacher. I earned a bachelors degree in both Spanish and Elementary Education along with a minor in Global Studies from the University of Vermont. I consider myself to be a problem solver, patient, and empathetic. I try to make learning fun for all students by pulling in students interests and incorporating appropriate educational games.Beyond education, I also enjoy traveling, hiking, camping, cooking, reading and playing soccer. I believe travel is one of the best ways to learn about yourself as a person because it makes you think about different cultures and judgments and allows you to reflect on your personal believes. I have traveled to many different countries in my lifetime and have lived in both Venezuela (2 years) and Spain (4 months).
