As your prospective tutor, I will help you recognize and communicate your difficulties, acquire the skills and perspective to overcome them, and finally learn to apply your new-found insight at a deeper level. Using my experience in both mathematics and education, I foster an environment that allows students to explore their own thoughts and ideas, without the pressures of an exam or classroom. This allows them to strengthen their own intuitions, while receiving guidance, encouragement, and new outlooks on exercises and concepts. My passion for knowledge, education and community, are what drive me to help students reach their full potential, so they can go on to achieve their own goals. Although mathematics has made up a big part of my schooling, I have a diverse background and wide spectrum of interests which helps me connect with students from all walks of life. I'm hard working, approachable, and committed to my craft. Developing my tutoring techniques over years, I continue to edit and alter my presentation of the material to best fit my student's individual learning style. In addition to my drive, experience, and personality, I will use my knowledge of mathematics to help students overcome their own difficulties and develop confidence in their mathematical insight and work.Education has been a major driving force throughout my upbringing. From becoming the first person in my family to receive a college diploma, to making sure my younger siblings always got their homework done, school work was paramount. Growing up, I regularly proofread, edited, double-checked, as well as provided any other general assistance that my brothers and sisters needed with their school work. Since we are all at different stages of our educational careers, I could go from working on the basic animal cell structure, to influential battles of the Civil War, then back to proving whether or not two triangles are congruent. Not only did I have to concisely explain vastly different subject material, but then reinterpret it in such a way that someone younger with different educational experiences could understand. These basic rituals of my everyday life, along with my love of knowledge for its own sake, are what have drawn me to become part of the world of tutoring. As I became older, I began to take up more tutoring jobs for various classmates, neighbors, acquaintances, and even coworkers, in subjects ranging from mathematics to Mandarin Chinese. I have had several one-on-one, small group, and classroom size tutoring experiences with grade school students all the way to adults going to college later in life. I explain things in a way that brings together conceptual and mechanical concepts to better comprehend the material being studied. As an educator, this is a skill that helps me reach people in a way that facilitates an actual understanding of the material as opposed to what is required for simple regurgitation. When you are explaining a concept to someone it is all about that eureka moment in their eyes that says, "I really do have it." It is about giving students enough to further their own understanding without giving away the whole story. That style of learning is what drives mathematicians, and it is also what motivates the best teachers, and it is a point of view I want to share with my students.

I'm passionate about learning. I was fortunate to have great teachers at the University of Chicago in my graduate education, and at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in my undergraduate education.I try to relate whatever subject I am tutoring to the real world. Learning is a lot easier and fun if students see the relevance to their lives. I am a very patient person, and I believe that making mistakes is often when the most learning occurs. Specific to ACT tutoring, I use a variety of books, including The Complete Guide to ACT Reading and the Ultimate Guide to the Math ACT.Outside of tutoring, I am the director of counseling services at an agency that serves the homeless, where I spend most of my time training and teaching staff and clients. I believe service to others is one of the highest callings, and want to pay my success forward. For fun, I like to read, play soccer, chill out with a good movie or Netflix, and spend time with my son.

I have tutored for many years and I have found that students may learn in different ways and all can excel. I like to present material in an engaging and relevant manner so that we can all learn and achieve success.One-on-one tutoring is an effective technique, particularly for explaining and modeling math, and I enjoy seeing students attitudes toward school brighten when they see immediate progress in their work.As a writing tutor, I like to focus on helping students find their authentic voice. Essays succeed when students strip away the extraneous material and present themselves and their ideas honestly, and I think with a little coaching any student can be a successful writer.

I love math tutoring! The best part about tutoring is watching a student's emotions go from frustration and confusion, to enlightened and excited. Math doesn't have to be as hard as some make it. I try to make it as easy and understandable as possible.I have more than 12 years of experience tutoring high school and college students in math, from algebra to calculus. My favorite kind of math is Algebra. I have memorized every formula and equation used in all levels of Algebra. My interests include puzzle and logic games, Garfield, and concerts.

Anatomy & Physiology Tutor • +20 Subjects

I attended the University of Texas at Austin for my undergraduate studies, where I found my passion for the natural sciences. As I found ways to make the material more comprehensible, I was able to help my classmates and eventually decided to tutor. After spending over two and a half years tutoring in college, I went to medical school at UTMB and started tutoring first-year medical students during my second year. My passion for tutoring comes from seeing the confidence that I can help bring out in the learners I work with as I see them take a previously confusing or challenging topic and make sense of it. I particularly enjoy the natural sciences because of the elegantly consilient way that different subjects intertwine. If you find yourself not quite understanding the material as much as you would like for topics such as biology, chemistry, or physics, I may be able to help you. Furthermore, I also have experience tutoring for the MCAT and would be happy to spend some time discussing what I've learned applying to medical school and residency afterwards. I moved to Chicago for residency training with a dual specialization in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, currently in my third year. And although it's different in some ways from Austin, I love exploring Chicago and finding fun new and fun things to do!

I am an ambitious and eager student entering the University of Notre Dame as a freshman this fall. I have been in marching band throughout high school and concert bands for eight years, and have a particularly strong interest in social studies. Throughout high school, I took a rigorous course load so that I could take classes in a broad range of subjects each year, comprised predominantly of honors and AP level classes. I was a part of the inaugural STEM program at my high school, and am looking to continue with engineering and history in college. I love school and am considering a career in teaching because I enjoy helping others learn and finding new ways to explain concepts.

I am a current graduate student at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). I have a major in Biological Sciences and a minor in Psychology from UIC and am now studying public health and medicine in an MD/MPH program. I started tutoring throughout my undergraduate career and have since worked with students in a variety of settings, both in person and online. I have tutored students all around Chicago, from kindergarten through high school, towards academic success in all subjects. For me, tutoring is a personalized experience. As I work with students, I learn how to adapt to their needs, relate seemingly uninteresting topics to their life, and think outside the box to explain a concept to them that may be particularly challenging or unclear. Through specialized individual attention, students became confident in their own abilities and began to develop into young scholars. Tutoring provided a means of reviewing and solidifying my own knowledge of topics as I taught it to my students while allowing me to pass my love of learning on to others. Some of my hobbies include working out, traveling, and photography. In my spare time, I can often be found exploring all of the wonderful festivals and restaurants Chicago has to offer!
