I recieved a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Studies with a concentration in Original Works from Cornish College of the Arts in 2018. Prior to this I transferred from the University of California, Davis where I studied political science and Chicana/o Studies. I have worked with students as a theatre educator since 2013, when I tutored with the Youth Policy Institute at Woodrow Wilson Highschool in Los Angeles. Soon after that I led a team of professional theatre artists as Head Camp Counselor in the Camp Shakespeare Sessions of the Davis Shakespeare Festivals from 2014 to 2016. I taught young students the literacy, plot and character study, and performance of Shakespearean plays. I'm passionate about storytelling, advocacy through the arts, and dramaturgical and literary studies. I believe that authentic learning engages not only the mind, but also the heart and intuition. My experience as an actor, producer, playwright and theatre artist equips me with a range of group project management skills. As your tutor, I'll be your collaborator in helping answer questions as well as in asking the right questions to make our subject interesting and to cover every curriculum requirement. In my free time I love practicing my hand at my family's delicious recipes for menudo, tinga tostadas, papas con chile y ms.

I have always had a deep passion for learning; knowledge empowers the individual and elevates the collective. This is a major reason why I find mentoring others to be such a rich and rewarding experience. I am able to help others better connect to the true joys and fulfillment that can stem from learning, and in exchange, I have the pleasure of witnessing positive growth and transformation in young minds.Professionally, I have mentored and tutored children and young people of many ages. I spent two years during my undergraduate working for the Si Se Puede Learning Center where I tutored K-5 students in an underprivileged demographic and conducted fun and interactive lesson plans in math, literacy, science, and writing. I have also tutored middle school and high school students in several math and science disciplines through the National Society of High School Scholars. I earned a dual bachelor's degree in ecology and contemporary dance performance, while continuing to mentor and assist my peers. Although these fields of study may seem to lie on opposite and seemingly unrelated ends of the academic spectrum, I have found that they molded me into an equally rational and abstract thinker and creator. This complementary form of education has allowed me to connect with many different styles of learners, which has ultimately enabled me to mentor a diverse range of people in a way that is both genuine and adaptable. My academic background is most immediately reflected in the life sciences and maths, but I am always thrilled to tutor students in the humanities, particularly essay writing, and social studies. I am excited and humbled by the opportunity to mentor others in a way that cultivates their sense of curiosity and deepens their understanding of our collective reality.

I am a graduate of the University of Washington Seattle, with a Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry, and a minor in Chemistry.I am very comfortable in a variety of subjects up to university level. These include: Mathematics through university level Calculus, Physics, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biology, and Biochemistry. I have genuine interest in these areas and would be very enthusiastic to pass on my knowledge of the coursework to othersIn addition to working for Varsity Tutors, I also do SAT/ACT and curriculum based prep for The Bellevue Learning Center, an in person tutoring company. In high school, I worked as a ski instructor, giving me direct experience in teaching people of varying ages. Additionally, participation in study groups was one of my most frequently used study techniques as a college student. While participating in study groups, I spent at least as much time teaching others college level concepts as I did being taught. These frequent study sessions helped me learn ways to become much more effective as a tutor.A large part of my responsibilities as a ski instructor was communicating with both my students and their parents and working with them to develop more effective ways to help my students get the most out of each teaching session. Although the subject matter of the courses will be much different, I believe that this experience will still be very relevant in a tutoring setting.

I'm excited that you may be interested in having me help you with your studies! Professionally, I've tutored over a hundred students in the past few years in both one-on-one and group tutoring sessions. Subjects I've tutored include general biology, genetics, general chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, calculus, and linear algebra. In terms of my formal education, I hold a bachelor of science degree in mathematics and a second bachelor of science degree in cell and molecular biology with a minor in chemistry and graduated summa cum laude (with highest honors).Over the past year I held the role of Science Subject Specialist at the Seattle University Learning Assistance Programs. In this position, I served as the lead tutor of the science tutoring program and helped oversee the program. I fulfilled CRLA's International Tutor Training Program to become an Advanced Certified Tutor, Level II. I also worked at Seattle University's Math Lab for two years tutoring students in a range of math courses, including pre-calculus, calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations. In addition to my professional history tutoring college students, I also volunteered for a year as a science and math tutor to students at a nearby alternative high school.I have scored extremely well on the ACT, SAT, and MCAT exams, so in addition to being able to offer academic support to students for course-specific content, I can also offer study and test-taking strategies!

Understanding the world around us opens up so many doors, its a shame that learning has developed a reputation of being not fun. When students learn how to harness a difficult concept, questions are answered and new ones are discovered. I have studied motivation in educational contexts and have held various teaching/mentoring roles. Having graduated 1st in my class with a Masters degree, I know what it takes to succeed in academic settings. It is effort, not innate ability, that makes people excel. I try to put forth this effort and learn in all areas of my life, including my hobbies like cooking, skiing, hiking, and reading.

I believe that education takes form in various stages and via different platforms. If you struggle with a particular material, dont despair! We just need to tweak the way you learn the material.

I'm a senior in electrical engineering at the University of Washington. My focus is on sustainable power systems. I tutored for a couple years at the community college I attended before transferring to UW. I have tutored students of all ages, mostly in math (my favorite), but also physics. One of the reasons I'm so passionate about tutoring is when I was a student struggling with calculus, my school's tutoring center saved me. I think the way that math describes the world is amazing and I'm always interested in helping others see the beauty of it! After some years working in industry, I plan to teach in a high school or college.
