I have worked as a teaching assistant and tutor for two general chemistry courses and a microeconomics course and will be a TA for Engineering Computing (a course in Matlab) this coming spring. For Chemistry, I led two, 75 minute workshops per week with a small group of students whom I helped to complete a problem set. For economics, I held 3 hours of office hours per week where students in the course would come in with questions on weekly homework assignments or exams. I have learned chemistry and computer science from different perspectives having taken AP Chemistry and AP Computer Science in high school and taking comparable classes again in my freshman year of college. In the workshop sessions I conducted as a chemistry TA, I would work through simple representative examples to help my students grasp general concepts, and then guide then through specific problems. My ability to illustrate the underlying concepts behind problems using different examples is very effective in garnering deeper understanding in those I tutor. I'm also good at asking questions geared to test whether a student really understands the concepts or not, and at explaining seemingly complex ideas in simple terms.

I'm a recent graduate from the University of Pennsylvania who studied Linguistics and Deaf Studies. I eventually hope to work towards breaking down barriers between the Deaf and hearing worlds and encouraging greater focus on reforming Deaf education practices.

I am a recent graduate of Smith College with degrees in Engineering Science and Mathematics. This fall, I will be starting a PhD in Electrical Engineering at UC Berkeley.I love to tutor math, and firmly believe that there is no "one size fits all" style of tutoring. I have worked to incorporate this mindset into my work as a tutor previously.Outside of school I enjoy hiking and cooking.

As a Masters student my favorite part of my role is serving as a Graduate Assistant, working one-on-one with students and watching them learn, conceptualize, and reconsider. Current second year law student in the NYC-Metropolitan area with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology, English Literature & Legal Studies.I'm passionate about various genres of literature (American Lit, Shakespeare, 18th Century) and would love to assist in any college admissions essays or academic writing to further the future education of my students.

I am currently a Medical Student at Georgetown and will be Graduating this upcoming May. Previously I attended Dickinson College and graduated with a degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. In my spare time I enjoy swimming, golfing, skiing and most other outdoor activities.I have 10 years teaching experience, serving as a private tutor, teaching assistance and small group instructor.I have taught students from elementary to graduate levels, helping them to excel in mathematics, science and standardized tests. Having taken many standardized test myself and taught at all levels I am able to not only assist with subject matter but also test taking strategies.Like any good tutor I take pride in the achievements of my student and want them to succeed. I received an undergraduate degree in Psychology with a focus in Neuroscience from Hunter College in Manhattan, New York. After college I went to medical school and received an MD from SUNY Upstate in New York. My favorite subjects to tutor are neuroscience, neurophysiology (I love the brain!), biology, and anything biology related. I worked as a Teaching Assistant in college, and also served as a teaching assistant during medical school, as well as taught medical students during residency. My teaching philosophy is really to identify each individual student's learning style and try to tailor my approach to that. Everyone learns differently, so I think it's best to avoid a one size fits all approach. I have been a student for most of my life! So I have had a lot of exposure to teachers and tutors with different styles and remembered what I liked about them, what worked, and what didn't. I think the best tutors and teachers that I have had were able to communicate clearly, adapt to their students and adjust their styles, and also had a passion for their subject that was infectious. I only tutor subjects that I love. Because if I'm bored by an area or not enthusiastic, how can I expect my students to be?Outside of academics, I like to watch movies (especially sci/fi fantasy), play video games, read, walk my dog, and travel.

I am currently a PhD student at Syracuse University in the Special Education Department studying Disability Studies. I am dedicated to helping individuals capitalize on their strengths and figure out how to best navigate the system structures to maximize learning and possibilities for their future. I was a very non-traditional student my entire life and have learned different ways to work around that to navigate the system to get where I want to. I like to use creativity, problem solving, and knowledge of the educational system to support others. I enjoy working one-on-one with people as it allows for a very individualized approach to learning. Besides school and teaching I love the outdoors, mountains, nature, and animals. I believe in enjoying life, which also many times means finding the quickest and easiest paths to reach educational goals and being realistic in amount of time being spent studying.

I have over 15 years of classroom teaching experience ranging from 1st grade to 12th grade. Working with a variety of students over the years has really helped me develop the necessary skills to be an excellent tutor.I know the great benefits that one on one instruction provides to a student. It is exciting to play such a role in a young person's education. I believe strongly in the power of education.Ideally, tutoring does not just help a student with the academic material in front of them at the moment. Tutoring helps build confidence and a love of learning that can last a lifetime.
