I attended the University of Maryland in College Park, where I earned my degree in Economics. In addition to the Economics coursework, I also took many Science and Math classes in consideration for a career in Medicine. To further my education, I have recently applied to Dental schools as well as a Master's program. I have always enjoyed working with kids as well as teaching/coaching, so tutoring offers the perfect opportunity to do something I really enjoy.As a student, my favorite subjects were Math, Science, and Art. Of the three subjects, Math is my strongest and also my favorite subject to teach, followed by Sciences (especially Chemistry). Working with kids and teens has taught me the importance of patience and finding ways to keep the material interesting. I have found that the best way to learn is rarely by listening to someone, but instead by doing and having a conversation throughout the learning process.In my spare time, I love to play and watch rugby, basketball, football and other sports. I also like to paint, but given the choice, I would prefer to be outdoors doing something active like hiking, rock climbing, or camping.

I became interested in helping students learn math as a "personal tutor" for my oldest son. He always struggled in math and when he entered algebra in high school, he did not understand the teacher and required a lot of help. Being the math nerd that I am, I excitedly sat down with him to help him master algebra. He thinks I am crazy for loving it and I don't think he will ever embrace my love of numbers, but at least he understands it now.

French/Greek/American marine biologist turned teacher! I have spent many years studying fish eggs and larvae (babies! So cute!) at an environmental consulting firm. However, as much as science gets me really excited, I really missed teaching! I changed careers and have now been teaching. After a year and a half abroad in Japan teaching French and English, I am now focusing on my masters in middle school science education. As a native French and English speaker, I have done a lot of tutoring in both of those subjects. As a science nerd, I am very excited to show students how nifty the natural world around us is. I would be more than happy to help you with biology, ecology, and environmental science!

I have a Bachelor's degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology where I studied Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Energy Systems. In addition to several internships working on wind and steam turbines, I spent nearly two years as a researcher working to eliminate idling on public school buses. In high school, I converted my 1984 diesel to run on waste vegetable oil. I try to bring a level of enthusiasm towards tutoring math that is normally reserved for every other subject besides math. I do not believe that anyone is naturally good or bad at math, but some people have better luck with finding teachers that connect with them in a meaningful way. I find it important to teach material in a way that a student is most comfortable learning it. My hobbies include working on my car, hiking, and reading (or napping) in my hammock.

Michael is recent a graduate of Columbia University School of Law where he was a staff editor on the Journal of Transnational Law. Before entering law school, he completed his Master's degree in Development Studies at the London School of Economics and earned his Bachelor's degree, magna cum laude, in International Affairs at George Washington University. Michael scored a 174 (99.4 percentile) on the LSAT and has been tutoring the exam for two years to over 70 students. Michael has taught a number of other courses over a four-year teaching career, namely standardized tests like the SAT and English abroad.
