I graduated from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign in 2010 with a BA in French Language and Literature and a minor in Russian language and literature. About a year after I graduated, I was accepted to a program, run by the French government, to teach English in France. I spent a year in the eastern town of Belfort helping French students ages 15 - 20 with their English grammar and pronunciation. While there, I took advantage of the school holidays and traveled to several different European countries. After my contract finished, I spent two months traveling through Spain. My favorite subjects to tutor are literature based, as that is where my interests lie. I enjoy discussing books with my students and helping them realize the subtle nuances of the author's language. I also enjoy helping my students with their own writing, helping them find their unique style. For test prep, I enjoy the English, Reading and Writing portions and try to help my students do the same. I believe the more a student enjoys something the easier it will be for he or she to progress.

In December 2014, I earned a Bachelor's of Science in Family Studies and Human Development from the University of Arizona. I am currently applying to graduate school in the hopes of earning a Master's of Fine Arts in Fiction.I have worked as a tutor for three years. My experience includes being an Academic Skills Tutor at the Think Tank at the University of Arizona and being a Writer's Lab & Content Tutor at the Strategic Alternative Learning Techniques Center at the University of Arizona.I tutor psychology, sociology, English, history, geography, and religious studies. My favorite subject to tutor is psychology or English. I favor psychology because it is remarkably easy for the student to make a connection between the material and their own personal lives. As for English, that is my person favorite subject in school so I enjoy fostering understanding and love for it in other students. My teaching philosophy is that every student is different. I am not the type of tutor to have my students write note cards and then be quizzed on them day after day. I like the challenge of creating innovative and creative methods to teach my students the information they are required to know. It's one of my favorite parts of tutoring.Outside of academia, I love to read and write. I'm a complete bibliophile and also an author myself. My first book came out last month and I am not hoping to be admitted to a graduate program to earn my MFA in fiction. I also love yoga. It's the thing I look forward to in order to slow my world down just a little bit.I love tutoring. It is such an honor to be part of a student's "Aha!" moment. I look forward to being part of yours.

I earned my B.A. in English from Miami University (Ohio) in 2007 and my M.A. in English from Clemson University in 2009. I am currently a PhD candidate in English at the University of Maryland, where I teach a variety of college level courses, including composition and literature courses. I am very invested in working one-on-one with students on critical writing and critical reading skills. Both sets of skills involve analytical thinking, but they also involve creative thinking. It is the interplay between the analytical and the creative that I find most enjoyable about tutoring and teaching. In my free time, I enjoy playing guitar, reading poetry, and being outdoors.

I received a PhD in political science from the University of Missouri in St. Louis. I also received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Truman State University (Kirksville, Missouri). I am currently an Assistant Professor of political science at State University of New York (SUNY) in Cortland. I tutor students in a range of subjects, though I am most excited to work with students in the subjects of writing, English, social studies/civics, American history and government. I am also good at helping students develop research proposals and outlines. I am passionate about helping high school students master material that will help them be successful in high school while also preparing them for college settings. I also very much enjoy helping college students get the most out of their college education by supporting them in being successful in their courses. I aim to help students with their acute course needs as well as assist them in developing skills for studying and learning that they can use throughout their entire lives. Before getting my PhD, I worked for nonprofit organizations; this experience allows me to engage with students about government and politics in ways that are real and relevant. I also like to help students explore career paths that can utilize their interest in government and politics. In my spare time, I enjoy reading fiction, hiking in one of the many beautiful state parks in upstate New York, and volunteering with organizations that help animals.

Coming from a family of teachers, you could say education runs in my blood. I grew up seeing the highs and lows a life in education can bring, and those experiences shaped me before I even taught my first lesson. At the heart of my educational philosophy is an idea often quoted to me by my father: Education hasn't changed since Socrates. It's about relationships. I approach every day of instruction with this in mind. Only through cultivating these relationships and understanding our students can we truly impact their lives. Without these bonds, meaningful learning simply isn't possible.Of course, if we truly care about our students, we must be properly equipped to help prepare them for the educational standards they must meet, and more importantly, life after high school. I love English; the big questions it grapples with, its real world application, and the creativity it inspires in students. I strive to have that passion show every time I teach, as I truly believe in the importance of what I share. I do my best to ensure every student who comes through my door (or screen!) not only meets the standards, but learns to appreciate English as well.
