I am an undergraduate at The University of Pittsburgh. I am a sophomore pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology with a focus of Biochemistry with a minor in Chemistry, a Certificate in Public and Professional Writing, and a Certificate in Conceptual Foundations of Medicine. Since my time at university, I have taught as a an Assistant teacher at a preschool, helping children learn their first foundations of knowledge. I have also helped numerous peers prepare of college exams in Biology I and II, Chemistry I and II, and writing essays for various classes. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Biology, Chemistry, English, and Writing. In my experience helping struggling students prepare for the college application processes, we always have fun. My core focus is to teach students how to apply the material, as most college exams are application based, and it is a skill that can improve understanding significantly at any grade level.

I am a recent graduate of Santa Clara University in California, where I received my B.S. in Biochemistry as well as a holistic education in environmental science, sociology, and public health (to name a few). I am currently in the process of applying to dental school (2020-2021 cycle), and look forward to converging my passion for mentorship, hands-on involvement with people, and community service into my future career of dentistry. In light of the long application process, I am taking a gap year to fuel my love for education and making an impact on my local community. My mentorship experiences include, but are not limited to: academic advising and DAT-prep for the SCU Pre-Dental Society; Lab and Teacher's Assistant for Biochemical Techniques, a lab-based capstone course for SCU Biochemistry students; teaching oral health prevention to underserved families via The Health Trust in Silicon Valley; and private tutoring in High School in the subjects of biology and trigonometry. My background in STEM has strengthened my knowledge in chemistry, biology, and math (trigonometry and calculus specifically).As for my teaching style, I believe in sustainable improvement - which comes with commitment and organization - and I assess my success as a mentor by my students' ability to move forward with the material independently. I am very patient with my students, and strive to empower every individual regardless of their background, experience, and learning barriers to gain confidence in accomplishing their academic goals. Later, I became a teacher's assistant for the physics department at the college and helped physics students with labs and homework. With these two jobs, I am able to assist many students at my college in math and physics. After a year of tutoring other students I began to notice that my knowledge on the topics had increased substantially and therefore my skills as a tutor increased even more. It is well known that the best way to know if you understand a topic is if you are able to explain it to others. Tutoring has allowed me to better understand my own topics and has given me the ability to teach them in several ways.Beyond tutoring, I also enjoy video games, Ultimate Frisbee, Soccer, Martial Arts, playing piano, and riding my bike around town and through trails. It is the most beautiful expression of capturing life, light, culture, history and documentary of our paths. It allows an individual's creativity and outlet for emotional expression.With my 20 plus years of experience producing and teaching photography and art, I have been privileged to share my knowledge and experience with many students as they pursue their education. Actively using hands on approaches and the individual students' interactions as we problem solve as a team to reach their goals.I love the adventurous spirit that students have for life and learning. Their personal and individual creativity and voice for interacting with this world and life. Watching their minds mature and achieve the next level of improvement.
