I have also tutored students at my school and volunteered at my local Boys and Girls club. I have tutored students in subjects ranging from Calculus to Chemistry to Language Arts, but I specialize in teaching Math and Science.As a tutor, I love to see students improve themselves, and I strive to create those "aha!" moments when everything begins to make sense. When I teach, I find it is most effective to find out how a student approaches a problem and rationalize it in their mind. I graduated from Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA with a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics before teaching Algebra 1 and Geometry in New Jersey for 8 years. I taught Honors Java and AP Computer Science Principles for the last three years I taught. I also taught Math SAT Prep enrichment courses during the summer for 5 years. In 2017, I left teaching to pursue a career in software development. I am now a software engineer with a three letter government agency and graduated from Georgia Tech with a Masters Degree in Computer Science in 2021. I am a graduate of Brandeis University, where I received both my Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in philosophy. During my time at Brandeis, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to tutor my peers as a Brandeis Undergraduate Group Study tutor. As a peer tutor, I guided fellow students through prepositional and predicate logic problem sets, worked through their arguments for ethics class, and helped edit their philosophy papers. Logic is my favorite to tutor due to its closeness to my personal interest in computer programming. In both cases there are answers to problems that are very much the only correct answer, but there may be many different ways of approaching said answer. This is something I particularly like to show my students: that even in the most stringent of cases, there is room for creativity and self-expression in the process of problem-solving.In my spare time, I enjoy toying around with programming languages like Ruby and Java, playing sports (ultimate frisbee, football, rowing, skiing, weightlifting), playing video games, and reading (mostly nonfiction).

I recently graduated from Norfolk State University in 2013 with a Bachelors in Computer Science. I've always been interested in and have had a knack for computers since I was young. Throughout my undergraduate career, I've had the chance to tutor and mentor lower level college students in the areas of College Algebra and Computer Programming. I love the feeling you get when you're able to develop students and teach them to solve problems that they otherwise couldn't understand. I believe building a relationship with students will make them more comfortable with you and better receptive to your teaching method.
