I developed a love for history at an early age. I really enjoyed looking back at the past, and the exercise of thinking out why events fell into place the way they did. AP United States History Tutor • +15 Subjects

I have a Bachelor's degree from the University of South Florida St. Petersburg. In 2014, I completed my Master of Arts degree in History from Auburn University. I am currently a PhD student of History at Georgia State University. Through my education I have had the opportunity to work closely with students as an instructor and graduate teaching assistant. While at Auburn, I also worked with student athletes as a lecturer and tutor, assisting them in their World History course. I am passionate about History, Literature, and Writing, and truly enjoy working with students in these fields. I find that students learn best when they are working collaboratively with their instructor, and I firmly believe that active engagement between the student and instructor provides the best opportunity for students to grasp the material. Education and learning can be a fun process, and I strive to make sure my students enjoy History, Literature, and Writing as much as I do. Outside of my academic work I enjoy, reading, watching and playing sports, especially basketball, and playing with my dogs.

After graduating from Penn State in 2010 with a degree in Classics & Ancient Mediterranean Studies and Religious Studies, I worked for several years with Bethesda Project, a social service agency serving the homeless population in urban Philadelphia. The experience was both enlightening and humbling, and it emphasized to me the inextricable importance of education to the prevention of widespread poverty and societal injustice. I decided then to pursue a career in education, and I recently completed my M.Ed. in Secondary Social Studies at Temple University. I have since become a Pennsylvania certified teacher in both Social Studies and English for grades 7-12, although I am also comfortable tutoring younger students. My strengths as an educator lie in my passion for both the subject matter and the desire to see students directly benefit from true comprehension and understanding. To me, history and social studies are important only in the context of what they teach us about how events and culture shape the world in which we currently live. A history class cannot be taught in isolation - it must be made relevant to our experiences today. I can certainly help struggling students to memorize names and dates for an exam, but my primary goal is to encourage a thorough understanding of cause and effect so that the memorization process takes on real meaning. In a similar way, I view English reading, writing, and composition as integral components in basic communication. Reading comprehension skills help us to make sense of both written and verbal arguments from others, not only in the classroom but in the real world. Likewise, the development of writing skills is crucial to our ability to express our thoughts in a coherent, persuasive manner. These are skills with consequence far beyond the walls of the classroom.I believe that all students possess strengths and weaknesses in the academic setting, and in all subject areas I am eager to share strategic studying tips for various types of learners. When a student is aware of how he/she learns best, future comprehension becomes a surmountable challenge rather than an imposing barrier.

AP Art History Tutor • +38 Subjects

I tutor SAT, PSAT, AP World, AP US History, AP Euro, French, Literature, English, Writing Skills/Essay Writing, Algebra I and II, Geometry, Calculus AB and BC, and AP Art History. I particularly love tutoring History and English/Literature, and helping with essay writing. I'm drawn to those topics myself, they are the things I am most passionate about, and therefore the things I love to teach and the subjects in which I love to share what knowledge I have. I believe enthusiasm goes a long way, and that some of my best teachers have been the ones who loved their subjects the most.My tutoring style is interactive. I take an approach that constantly asks my students to explain things to me, talk me through how to work through problems, and say things in their own words. I believe that this is the way in which a student's learning can be best assessed throughout lessons, and I also believe this method forces students to really and deeply understand the things that they are learning.I received my high school degree from Centennial High School in Frisco, Texas. I'm currently in the process of receiving my bachelors in Political Science from Yale University. I began tutoring my sophomore year of high school, when I tutored Geometry and Algebra as part of a volunteer program at my high school. My junior and senior year, I tutored in Algebra II. During the year, I operate as an informal tutor to my family and friends, coaching my little sister through speeches, AP World History, the PSAT, and English. I also spend a lot of time reading through college application essays and proofreading general application essays. In addition to my tutoring experience, I have taught workshops on health education for high school-age kids in inner-city schools in New Haven, and given tours to small children (elementary to middle school-age) at the Dallas Museum of Art as a Teen Docent.Outside of school, I love to write and to perform. I am spending the summer focusing on writing, specifically long-form personal essays and articles. In high school, I did Speech, Interp and Debate, and did a lot of competitive acting and preforming and speaking through that. In college, I have been given the privilege of combining those interests I am part of a sketch comedy troupe that allows me to combine my interests through writing and preforming my own sketches, as well as workshopping the sketches of other members of my troupe. Beyond that, I absolutely love podcasts: I've been obsessed with NPR's politics podcast lately, and (of course) This American Life, Radiolab, and Serial.

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay area. I moved to New York City to attend NYU, and graduated in May of 2013 with a B.A. in Economics and Political Science. Recently, I traveled through India, teaching Math and English to kids in the states of Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh. My favorite subjects are English and History, but I also enjoy Math and took a variety of statistics and calculus courses at the university level. I am planning on pursuing a Masters degree in the field of political science, and am hoping to stay on the east coast for school. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy running, biking, and exploring the culinary world of New York.

Part of the reason I love teaching is because I love learning. I have always wanted to be a teacher because of the opportunity to work with other people. My teaching experience includes working with students at private day and boarding schools, public schools, and after school programs. In each of these settings, I made sure to get to know my students really well so that I could find ways to make our sessions fun and engaging. Building that relationships with my students is important because it allows students to feel more comfortable about communicating what they are struggling with or any concerns about our session.Among the things that my students and their parents enjoy about working with me is my approachability, sense of humor, and dedication to ensuring their success. I highly value the role that my own teachers played in my upbringing, so I take the responsibility of working with students seriously (and enthusiastically!).

Hello and thank you for considering me as your tutor! A little about myself...I am a 2009 graduate of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. A degree from USNA is unlike any other. Though I was an English major, my degree is a Bachelors of Science. All Midshipmen (what students at USNA are called) take classes like Calculus, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, Thermodynamics, and more to help them prepare to be well-rounded Naval Officers. You better believe I have developed some really useful study skills from all those classes! After graduation I attended flight school in Pensacola, FL and put those study skills to good use, graduating first in my class. I then served as a Naval Flight Officer (or NFO) aboard the Navy's P-3 Orion aircraft. P-3s use a combination of techniques and technologies to fulfill their mission of hunting submarines and providing reconnaissance information. This may not sound like it relates to tutoring, but my previous career taught me three things that make me an ideal tutor: I think quickly on my feet, can approach a problem from many different angles, and I value excellence, precision, and effort above all else! After leaving the service, I pursued my graduate degree in Diplomacy from Norwich University. Having always been a bit of a foreign policy "nerd," I enjoyed learning about the history of modern diplomacy and the international system, modern methods of conflict management, and theories on the future of international relations. I am a member of Sigma Iota Rho (the honor society for international studies) and graduated with a 4.0. Norwich helped me sharpen my writing and editing skills significantly. I've always been a strong writer, but my professors at Norwich helped me take my skills to the next level. I'd love to help you do the same! Currently, I write and edit for the Center for International Maritime Security. Topics of interest to me are NATO and the Arctic. My work has been featured by CIMSEC, the US Naval Institute, and Real Clear Defense. So, after all that, why should you allow me the opportunity to tutor you or your child? First, I exercise what I like to call "Educational Empathy" at all times. I get it. I SO get it. I have been a student, and nothing quite matches the frustration of being confused by a topic or working hard and not seeing results that are commensurate with your effort. That's where I come in! By attacking the problem from a place of understanding and with plenty of enthusiasm, I'll work with you or your student to nail that tough subject, write that perfect essay, or get those top scores. I believe all students are capable of understanding and progression, and that frequently the issue is not with the learner themselves, but the approach to learning.I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to read my statement and letting me share a little about myself and my approach to learning. Don't hesitate to contact me at any time if you have any questions!

I believe that every student has the potential to achieve their goals, and that by helping others I can enhance my own education as well.

A long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, I matriculated at Centre College in Danville. There I studied history and played for the school soccer team. I left with many bruises and a degree in history. After a short diversion to serve my country in the Army, I moved to Louisville. I worked for the city and later the water company. I returned to school at the University of Louisville. I worked on a Master's degree in Teaching and certification in learning and behavior disorders.Once certified, I embarked on a career teaching. I have worked at three different high schools, teaching regular and resource classes, as well as coaching soccer. At the moment, I work as a special education teacher inside Our Lady of Peace hospital. There, I work daily to meet the educational needs of students with significant behavioral issues that temporarily prevent attendance at a regular school.I have worked as a tutor at various times throughout my teaching career. For several years, I worked evenings and Saturday mornings at a Sylvan Learning Center. Later, I tutored individual students through an organization called ClubZ!I tutor because it allows me to work one-on-one with a student. As a classroom teacher, I rarely get this opportunity. The opportunity for individual instruction gives me the chance to see real progress in the students I have the privilege to tutor.Outside of teaching, I enjoy coaching (and watching) soccer. I also like to ride my bike along the new trail through the Parklands of Floyds Fork.

Fueling my drive to tutor is the conviction that every student possesses the potential to grasp any concept, no matter how daunting it may initially seem. I have been privileged to witness many 'lightbulb' moments throughout my tutoring journey and it is this transformation - from confusion to comprehension, that motivates me to continue helping learners conquer their academic challenges. I strive to foster a supportive environment where students feel empowered to explore, make mistakes, and above all, grow.My academic journey began at Florida State University, where I earned dual bachelor's degrees in economics and philosophy. I later attended the University of Florida Levin College of Law, receiving a Juris Doctor degree. My varied academic background enables me to offer a wide range of tutoring services. From standardized tests like the LSAT, SAT, and ACT, to subjects such as English, writing, economics, humanities, US and European history, civics, and law, I am well-equipped to guide students through an assortment of academic endeavors.Despite the breadth of subjects I tutor, philosophy holds a special place in my heart. It stimulates a distinct thought process that challenges and enriches one's perspective. However, if asked to pick a universally applicable subject, I would undoubtedly choose writing. The ability to communicate effectively if fundamental in all aspects of life, and nurturing this skill among students is deeply gratifying. My teaching approach is underpinned by patience, adaptability, and open communication. Recognizing that each learner is unique, I aim to tailor my teaching style to resonate with individual students. Regular feedback and interactive discussions form the bedrock of my sessions, ensuring that the student's needs are consistently met.Beyond academia, I have a passion for travel, movies, reading, basketball, and video games. These interests add color to my life and often provide common ground with my students. Furthermore, I'm currently immersing myself in web development, learning languages like Javascript with a goal to transition my career in the long term.My experiences and interests uniquely position me to relate to students on a personal level, fostering a relaxed and effective tutoring environment. Above all, I'm dedicated to guiding students towards achieving their academic goals, equipping them with the skills they need for lifelong success.
