I've been a jack of many trades through my life, learning lots of skills over the years. In regards to my education, I feel I'm still earning it every day. But where I formally studied was Lone Star College - Cy-Fair. I graduated with an Associates of Applied Science in 2008. Following that, I enrolled at UTSA to pursue a Biology degree. Two years later, I enlisted in the military.I've been working with students ever since I was attending school, myself. Growing up, I did a lot of tutoring to help my friends. I always enjoyed it when I helped others succeed with me. My time in Basic Training, I managed to tutor a quarter of my platoon to improve their scores for a required test from a failing grade, to passing. What makes me passionate about helping students is that I always feel everybody deserves a shot. During my 10 years working in a Hosting company, I learned many skills. The one skill I found myself to be the one I became most passionate about was Coaching. It was in the last 6 years of working there that I found my passion coaching my many peers towards their success.Currently, I'm tutoring for Certified ScrumMaster and other Technical Certifications. I hold 3 Agile Certifications, myself; Professional Scrum Master I, Certified Scrum Master, and Certified Scrum Product Owner. I found that with my skills and successes as a Coach, matched with my knowledge and understanding of Scrum, I want to make it my goal to help Tutor others towards success in their quest for Scrum Master certification. My Teaching Philosophy is often more Socratic. I've always questioned things in life, and that never stopped when I coached. What I had to train myself to do was ask the right questions, to help figure out how I can guide my colleagues towards their goals. My interests outside of academia are video games and streaming with my friends and traveling and creating new memories with my lovely wife.

With all of the experience that I have acquired over the years, I have become very good at individualizing lessons based on a student's personal needs. Not every student learns in the same way, and for that reason a tutor must always try to discern which methods work best with any given student, in order to ensure that they tailor each student's instruction to whatever best matches that student's learning style.I have been teaching for three years, and am currently working as a curriculum designer for an English as a Second Language Publisher. Prior to that I worked as a private tutor.

I am a current student at Barnard College, Columbia University. I am on the pre-med track with a major in biology. I am also interested in economics and American history. I began tutoring as a middle school student and haven't stopped, continuing into my high school years, year abroad and college. Through the years I have gained experience in tutoring chemistry, pre-calculus, algebra and reading. I find that patience is the most important attribute of a tutor because I believe that in due time and with the right assistance everyone can learn.

In May of 2015 I received a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Psychology from the University of Cincinnati. August of 2017 I received a Master of Science in Medical Science from the University of Kentucky. I currently work doing research on Gaucher Disease. I have been tutoring/teaching in some form for the last 10 years, working with children and adults of all ages. Previously I have spent 4 years as an instructional assistant/assistant band director. During this time I was afforded the opportunity to get to work one on one with many different types of students. I taught a class of 30 middle school students 6 periods of the day where I worked with them on increasing their math and reading skills. After school I would tutor grades 6 through 12 mostly in math and science. I also gave private music lessons after school. I have experience working with special needs students and have worked as a sensory motor coach for children ages 3 to 18 with development and sensory disorders. My favorite subjects to tutor are math and science but I am comfortable tutoring many different subjects. I like being able to see to help the student make connections from the subject material to their own lives. When tutoring I like to make sure the student is involved in the process. I like to ask them questions about the material and to help them draw out and visualize the solution. Every student learns differently and I feel they do better when they can personally relate to the material and find a connection to their own life. In my spare time I enjoy playing music, painting, reading, rock climbing and spending time with my family.

I am a recent graduate of Northwestern University, where I received my BA in Philosophy and Political Science. As a former editor-in-chief of a high school newspaper and a peer writing coach, I enjoy tutoring in reading and English; however my passions truly lie in the realm of civics and government (ask me about my current position working in a governor's office!). I love talking through big ideas and unique perspectives. I am a word nerd who loves reading and is driven by the chance to learn new things!

I have been teaching math for the last 12 years in public schools. My success as a teacher comes from making students feel comfortable with math. Math is like a puzzle, it is just a matter of figuring out how the pieces go together. It always feels good when you get the pieces together and see the finished product. I will help you fill in the pieces of the math puzzle and have success in the classroom.

Elementary Reading and Phonics Class Tutor • +20 Subjects
As a Tutor, my motto has always been, "Every student is special and unique in their own way." Therefore, each student learns differently and at their own pace and because of this I sometimes use special education resources to work with some struggling students. I believe every student is a winner!! In the past, as a Tutor for No Child Left Behind Program, I specialized in working with students struggling with phonics or other aspects of reading or comprehension. I reminded them how they can be motivated and conquer any lesson concept. I would always tell them to say like the Little Engine, trying to accomplish going up and over the hill, "I think I Can, I Know I Can." I learned through the years that if a student is motivated and encouraged, they can succeed and the student will try even harder.

I'm Rob! I graduated from Duke University in 2016 with a double major in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Economics. I've been a math teacher in the DOE for the last 2 years and have a Master's of Arts in Teaching. I specialize in high school math and test prep for the ACT, SAT, and GRE.As a math teacher for the last 2 years, I've found that students often aren't given enough time in the classroom to fully grasp new concepts before moving on to new material. This often leads to "gaps" in their knowledge, which are hard to fill without providing them with 1-on-1 help. This is how I can benefit my students the most, by providing the the 1-on-1 attention they need. When I start with a new student, I first work to identify the gaps in their knowledge, and then methodically fill in those gaps to help them reach a stronger conceptual understanding.I want to help my students as much as possible. As part of my approach, I like to understand my students' long term academic or professional goals to make sure I'm working with them in a way that's most beneficial to those goals.I live in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. I'm can do remote sessions or in-person. Please contact me if you would like to set up a free 15 minute consultation!
