I am not someone who is satisfied when a student memorizes steps to solve a problem. I always want the student to understand what he/she is doing and why they are doing. This insight will make them a stronger, faster and better student, particularly in the field of mathematics. This brings the stude...

I am a graduate of New York University???s undergraduate history program. My main focus was the cultural and intellectual history of WWII Japan. In my final summer at NYU I traveled to Japan where I studied Japanese, traditional music, and Wartime film.I offered my academic services both in high school and college, often to my peers, primarily in writing and mathematics. I work carefully with students to bring out clarity and richness of expression in their writing. Essays are essentially portraits of your character and logical flow, which is often where students are lost, is crucial towards creating a compelling voice. Mathematics is similar; it requires a practiced hand and a clear mental map. I am happy to guide students at any level and tailor lessons to their needs.Although I enjoy writing and mathematics the most, I have a passion for physics, earth sciences, reading comprehension French and Japanese. I encourage students to find freedom in these subjects rather than trauma. In each lies a means of expression and an opportunity for dialogue. Physics, for example, offers us a completely new vocabulary for describing our natural world. My goal is for you to develop a comfortable rhythm using unfamiliar vocabulary and the ideas behind them. Patience, young one, and you will feel empowered, not intimidated on test day!My method involves students in developing their own ways of learning and exploring what makes sense to them. We all come from different backgrounds and connect with material in different ways. Together we can develop this as a strength so that you have your own set of tools that you can apply to any problem. This, ultimately, is the test of any academic pursuit. I am comfortable reaching out and adapting the material whether it be SAT, SAT II, IB, AP, or classwork to where you are now.My hobbies include poetry, electronic music, ink drawings and youtube.

I am a recent graduate from Stony Brook University and have received my Bachelors of Science degree in Biology. Over my undergraduate career I have tutored many different students ranging from grades 4-12 as well as several college classes. I have always loved being able to work with a student or colleague to find the right answer of a difficult question. I tutor math (Calculus, Geometry, Trigonometry, Algebra) as well as SAT math, English, and science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Biochemistry). I really enjoy tutoring math and English! Math always has an answer to work towards and can be taught using various mediums. English is also a favorite subject of mine as I love to read and write and love reading the works of others. I like to tutor subjects by working through problems with students and practicing problems. Outside of academics, I enjoy hiking and have almost finished half of the Appalachian trail. I also enjoy archery and shoot olympic recurve style.

I received my Bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota in 2011 and my Master's in 2013, both in Aerospace Engineering & Mechanics. As a Graduate Teaching Assistant at University of Minnesota, I taught groups of students in the laboratory sessions for courses in the Aerospace Engineering Department, including Experimental Methods, Instrumentation, and Aeroelasticty. The most important aspect of my teaching style is demonstrating patience and commitment to the student. I want the student to feel comfortable communicating with me what they are struggling with so I can understand what his or her strengths and weaknesses are. This allows me to tailor my lessons to the students needs and teach more effectively, by "speaking their language". I make it my goal to learn from the student about their learning style so I can teach them how to succeed. I tutor science, engineering, and mathematics, including calculus, algebra, and geometry. My favorite subjects to teach are math and physics. In my free time I like playing drums and listening to music (rock, jazz, electronic mostly) and when I can, traveling and learning about foreign cultures.

I earned a Bachelor's degree of Physics from the University of Rochester in 1988. After serving as an Officer in the Navy until 1997, I completed a Master of Education degree at Old Dominion University in 1999.After earning my Masters, I began teaching Algebra II, Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus, and Physics at private schools in Chesapeake, VA until 2008. During the 2008-2009 school year, I began home schooling my two daughters. I also began teaching Geometry and Physics in their home-school co-op.In 2010, I began serving students as a private tutor in high school and college Math and Physics. I have found tutoring to be extremely rewarding, getting to know them better and seeing the understanding in their eyes when they understand how a difficult concept or skill can be used and their happiness as they become successful in using it.I am skilled at and enjoy tutoring all Math subjects and both high school and college Physics. My favorite of these subjects to tutor is AP Calculus.I want to teach students how to think in such a way that makes it easier for them to solve any problem: math, science, etc. When I tutor students, I ask them questions that lead them to understanding how to think critically and appropriately apply skills to answer new questions. I teach students how to ask themselves questions that lead to their solving problems on their own, no longer needing a tutor.I am a great fan of car racing, especially Formula 1. I have found that understanding the Physics and Math behind car racing makes this sport even more interesting.

I have been an engineer in the aerospace field for over 10 years. I hold a PhD and a Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering from GA institute of Technology. Prior to grad school, I attended the City University of New York where I earned two bachelors degrees (Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mathematics).I have tutoring experience with a wide variety of students from college student athletes to students attending inner city schools to those in exclusive private schools. Through it all, my tutoring philosophy has remained the same: to guide students to the discovery of problems solving instead of providing them with the right solution. Because ultimately my objective is to help students develop their ability to learn independently.Teaching has always been a passion of mine. Since my college years, I have tutored on and off for the past 15 years. I am equally comfortable teaching young students as well as adults in a variety of mathematics and related subjects (Algebra to advanced calculus to Geometry and trig to statistics), physics, and tests prep. Calculus one is of my favorite subjects to tutor, because it is always awesome seeing students' faces when they realized the real life meaning or applications of a mathematical theory.Outside work, I love outdoor activities and I am avid soccer and basketball fan. I am also fluent in French.

I am currently a graduate student at Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester conducting research in Biophysical Chemistry. I recently graduated in June 2017 from the University of California - Irvine with two Bachelor degrees. One was in Biomedical Engineering and the other was in Materials Science and Engineering. With two engineering degrees, I feel comfortable working with students in all realms of Math and Science.I have experience in teaching students of all levels, in a variety of settings. Since my sophomore year of high school, I've worked as a Private Tutor. I have worked with students ranging from ages 10-16. I have private tutored students in Middle School Math and Science, AP English, AP Physics, AP Chemistry, AP Calculus.I am experienced in teaching a wide variety of subjects but, I love teaching Math classes the most. I love challenging the minds of my students and teaching them new ways to approach and solve problems. I believe that education is not about teaching students how to work through problems to do well on tests. It's about teaching them good study habits and helping them to develop a genuine love for learning. The point of education is to teach students how to become critical thinkers so that they may apply their knowledge to solve real world problems. Learning should be exciting for students; it shouldn't feel like a chore. This passion and enjoyment of learning should be applied to every aspect of life for my students.Outside of the time that I spend reading books, I enjoy spending time outdoors being active. I enjoy hiking, swimming, tennis, and running. I also have a deep interest in the arts. I love to sing, dance, and I look at the amazing photography of famous Photographers and of my good friends.

I tutored while an undergraduate at Cornell University for Let's Get Ready, an organization which provides free SAT tutoring to economically disadvantaged high school students. What I believe makes me a great tutor are the following: I frequently engage the class, I find ways to make learning fun for my students and give them examples of how their lessons apply to the world we inhabit, and I am very thorough in the material and diligently work, while being patient, to make sure each student is understanding the lessons because I know everyone has a unique way he/she processes and learns.

I enjoy Math related subjects and have tutored and taught Math courses like Algebra to PreCalculus and Calculus in both High School and College levels. I have obtained my Masters degree in Mathematics plus 7 years later, my PhD, also in Mathematics. In the US, I have lived a year in Washington State (Seattle area) and close to a year in California (Los Angeles area). Outside the US, I grew up and resided in the Philippines (Manila area) until moving to Texas (Houston area) in 1994, which is the year after I obtained my doctorate in pure math. I speak English and Filipino fluently & can manage simple conversations in Spanish. My goal is to make a difference, one student or one class at a time by helping each person learn incrementally their math related material.
