I am an experienced multi-subject teacher, who has had the great fortune to have been educated in several countries, and to teach in several countries. I received my education at Manhattan School of Music, Columbia University, the Universitaet Mozarteum, in Salzburg, Austria, University of Virginia, and Oxford. I have taught in the US, UK, Austria and Japan, and lived in all of those countries, plus Iceland, and for a shorter period in both France, and Turkey. My students have ranged in age from kindergarten, to adults, and have spoken many languages. I grew up trilingual, and added quite a few more languages along the way. I have the distinction of being one of the few non-native speakers of fluent Icelandic. Hobbies: reading, cooking, traveling, music, art, travel, books, writing

I'm not tutoring, I spend most of my time on my two indie rock bands, in which I play guitar and bass and write many of the songs. I also like to take my dog, Mac, on walks around my neighborhood of Grant Park.

I am a rising senior at The University of North Texas in Denton. I am working towards my Bachelor of Arts in Spanish as well as English with a concentration in Creative Writing. I was raised in an academically competitive environment in Fort Bend County and my rigorous secondary education prepared me for success in college. I am a fortunate member of the Terry Scholarship Foundation, which has provided me and hundreds of other Texans with a private, four-year, full-ride scholarship. As a Terry Scholar, I am well-versed in all subjects and have taken on the role of mentor to many of the incoming freshmen. I have spent most of my free time in college as a nanny and tutor to families around the DFW area. I have experience with all age groups and there is nothing that intimidates me! While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, Literature, History, Spanish, and Government/Social Studies. Through my experiences helping struggling students and peers, I have realized the value of adaptability. Most people reach out to a tutor because the traditional classroom method is not best suited for their learning needs. There is nothing more joyful than when a student finally understands the material in a way that makes sense to them. Many times, students need flexibility and patience in order to grasp a foreign concept. I am a firm believer in the power of education and I hope to share my love of learning with all of my students. After graduation I plan on returning to Houston to obtain my Master of Arts in Teaching from Rice University. In my spare time, I enjoy reading and writing anything from poetry to screenplays. I am a senior studying Film Production at Emerson College. Though I am pursuing a career in filmmaking, I am also passionate about education. I have volunteered extensively to tutor children through various programs. At the Rosedale Achievement Center in the Bronx, I worked one-on-one with a high school student and with a middle school student. I helped them understand their school work in subjects including English, French, Algebra, Chemistry, History and Religious Studies. I also volunteered with Free Arts NYC, through which I, along with a group of tutors, taught small groups of elementary and middle school students about various famous artists and art techniques, and lead them in art projects. I have also taught swimming lessons as a Water Safety Instructor for several years; I taught children from age 4 to age 15 at Brookhaven Country Day Camp and at the Fresh Air Fund. These lessons taught me how to break down complex concepts to make them simple to understand. Furthermore, I am passionate about writing. I understand structure, conventions, and grammar of both academic and fiction writing, and I enjoy helping others improve their writing.

My philosophy is that the most effective teaching comes from knowing how my student learns, and meeting them where they are. My passion for literature brought me to New York--specifically to the New York publishing world, where I worked as an assistant to a literary agent for two years. It's probably become clear at this point that the subject I am most passionate about is writing. In college, I worked as a consultant at my school's Writing Resources Center, assisting students with their academic papers. In this position, I helped our clients improve the overall structure of their papers, strengthen their research, cite their sources, and correct their spelling and mechanics. I feel confident that I can address any paper problems you might have and make the writing process less intimidating.

I've served as a T.A. for a beginner's literature class in the past year, and was a camp counselor at Girls Inc., a stem-focused summer and after school camp for girls K-8. My primary fields are English Literature, Comparative Literature, and History. I have presented at conferences, most recently at Simon Fraser as a member of a panel for their graduate English program. I wrote a thesis last year, passed my baccalaureate exam, and I'm pursuing publication for the project. I am currently working as a freelance writer, with an article due for publication in The New Inquiry next month.
