I obtained my bachelor's in English Literature from New College of Florida, and I am currently studying for the GRE. I've served as a T.A. for a beginner's literature class in the past year, and was a camp counselor at Girls Inc., a stem-focused summer and after school camp for girls K-8. My primary fields are English Literature, Comparative Literature, and History. I have presented at conferences, most recently at Simon Fraser as a member of a panel for their graduate English program. I wrote a thesis last year, passed my baccalaureate exam, and I'm pursuing publication for the project. I am currently working as a freelance writer, with an article due for publication in The New Inquiry next month.

I am a certified elementary and secondary math teacher from Texas. I've been in the field of education for over 20 years, with 16 years as a classroom teacher and 27 years as a tutor. My philosophy as both a teacher and a tutor are the same; namely, my focus is on teaching the student not the subject. My approach with each student is unique because he or she has to be taught according to what's best for his or her learning style (visual, auditory, kinesthetic or any combination).

Currently, I am a sophomore majoring in Biomedical Engineering and Economics at Washington University in St. Louis. I went to St. Thomas Aquinas High School on the border between Massachusetts and New Hampshire and graduated with highest honor.I have started tutoring since my high school career. In high school, I have been tutoring middle school and high school classmates in the neighborhood on Math and basic Sciences. Here at Washington University in St. Louis, I started from peer tutor in Math and Physics then in my very first year; I was also selected to be the Biomedical Engineering Problem Solving Team Leader--which is a tutoring job but more then simple tutoring. I conduct weekly review sessions with teams of biomedical engineering underclassmen, helping them on concepts and homework. I also lead reviewing and clarify core concepts for Introduction to Biomedical Engineering course. Beyond tutoring academically, I assist students with their assimilation into college life as well.I tutor Biomedical Engineering, all math subjects ranging from K-12 to junior college level, all levels of Physics, all levels of Biology, all level of Chinese, and SAT preparation, including regular SAT test and Math, Physics, Biology, Chinese SAT subject tests. My teaching style is very test-preparation orientedbased on learning and emphasis on the most important key points in subjects. My philosophy is to first help students to familiarize with the key concepts, and then tackle each specific type of questions by techniques and all kinds of tricks. Through the years of accumulation, I do have many little tricks that can expedite the problem-solving process with strong understanding.Born in China yet spending years in New England, I am always considered as a hard-core Bostonian. I enjoy the serenity of classical music as well as the passion of sportsespecially soccer and football. My interests range from aviation to video games, and I am also, a puppy lover.I am flexible, easygoing, and know how to deal with exams specially. As mentioned, my tutoring style is very test-preparation oriented. If a score booster is needed, I am here for him/her.

I recently graduated from Barnard College of Columbia University with a BA in Psychology. I am very passionate about my undergraduate major, but I explored all different subjects and courses, as well. I was very active on my school's crisis hotline, and was an anonymous peer listener for this organization for most of my college experience. In addition, I was an intern at The Door, a non-profit downtown, where I conducted intake interviews with adolescents and connected them to the services they were interested in. In college, I was also involved in a research study on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, in the growth of a start-up, and in a club that taught conflict resolution to children around New York. I am very excited to start a graduate program for social work at NYU starting in the fall. I love working with children and adolescents of all ages, and hope to use my masters of social work to better their lives in some way. I have experience as a senior camp counselor for various camps, an assistant teacher, a babysitter, a substitute teacher, a dance teacher, and more. In my free time, I love practicing yoga, running, crafting, baking, and spending time with my family and friends.

When I was in high school, pursuing the IB Diploma, I often found myself in the position of assisting my classmates with their work, particularly in the field of history. History had always been a passion of mine - ever since I was a boy and I was brought to the battlefield at Gettysburg I had deep thirst to know about the accomplishments and tragedies of the past - and I relished any chance I had to share that love with others. So, while I did well in all subjects, history was and always had been my especial favorite (sadly, not too many students need extra tutoring in history, alas).Truman State's MAE program gave me the opportunity to translate that love of history to the classroom, giving me the teaching competencies to share it with students on a wide scale. The intense program gave me hundreds of hours of experience in the classroom, including many hours of hands on teaching and prep work, access to veteran instructors of all disciplines, and finally culminated in a six-month teaching internship at Lee's Summit West High School.I was fortunate in that I have the native abilities and personal characteristics for the job. I'm an apt public speaker and I keep calm under pressure - at Truman this led to my being elected to organize and run a large, multi-day athletic/social event involving hundreds of students, "HvZ". It also trained my organizational and management abilities, as I needed to prepare and execute programs that involved literally hundreds of my fellow college students. I was good at this, and became a prominent voice online instructing other colleges in running the event. This skill translated well into the classroom, I found, as I student-taught during the MAE. Teachers need to keep cool under pressure, need to manage a large class of students, and need to hold their interests through a lesson. They need good planning and organizational skills. They need to have a love of their subjects. Between my own extracurricular activities and my training, I have all of these competencies.
